It makes me feel so alive when I’m feeling down , especially during this time of manic. My parents showed me this song and I just rediscovered it. This is definitely what I needed. Its a mind trick. This song has a simple arrangement and vibes from all eras of modern western music,(Which is a common in British Pop and alternative. All driven by an amazing vocal that deflects focus on what hes singing about, which was 10 years ahead of its time.(Breaking Taboos,Also a very British trope) To me The intro and rhythm guitar would makes me think im about to hear Pink Houses by John Mellencamp. Then Theres a Hammond Organ and vocals thats gives it a Kinda Roy Orbison type vibe/tenor Barbershop Singer With a Lennon inspired Lyric and 50s style drumming. (Not sure about the La Bamba melody, not hearing that. ) Vocals could have been written by anyone From Cole Porter to Lady Gaga. Perfect Pop song.
I dont know. One minute its the early 90s, then i blinked and its the mid 20s, and weve had births and deaths, world leaders come and go, climate change, wars, an IT boom and a globe pandemic to boot.
I've heard this song so many times in my life without getting bored of it. 1st time seeing the video. Just so good. James was such a great band. Did some great work with Eno too.
I love that this is, literally just the one-take of him singing comes instead of hums or anything else, and it's not any of the other stuff they filmed, just him at the table. I love it, and I'd like to see more of this kind of stuff from bands. I've always wanted this kind of thing. '93 Jeez. I was 4 turning 5. I feel like I really didn't hear it more until late 90s early 00's.
I just woke up from the strangest dream. It led me straight to this song. Seems like my higher self must have been having a damn good time last night. ❤️
I learned the identity of this song through hearing someone doing it at karaoke. I go to him "Hey, the American Pie song!", he was like "Huh?". I was so thrown by someone being completely in the dark about American Pie, AND someone knowing this song completely independently of that, and he clearly expected nobody to know or recognize the song. An evening of destroyed expectations, LOL!
listening to this 27 years later...I have what I wanted...great kids, money, job, house, relationship and responsibility. and yet...I hear this today and think of summer, fun, women, drink, travelling, being young, laughing, relationships, turmoil, zero responsibility...omg i miss those days, I can only hope my kids get to enjoy their time like I did back then Thank you James for this song and the memories it helps trigger
Literally been listening to this half my life, having found James through Seven and Goldmine. Obsessed with this song and video, Tim Booth is such a great actor and this character always gives me Wyndom Earl Twin Peaks vibes.
there are certain songs I listen to three times in a row as a regular thing. they are each "my favorite song of all time". this is certainly one of them.
The way he cranks out that beautiful falsetto is something else. Adore this song.
If you want to hear something amazing, listen to Skin Diving. It's not their best song by any means but holy SHIT can he sing

All driven by an amazing vocal that deflects focus on what hes singing about, which was 10 years ahead of its time.(Breaking Taboos,Also a very British trope)
To me The intro and rhythm guitar would makes me think im about to hear Pink Houses by John Mellencamp.
Not Really, The Lyrics Were Controversial For 1993 And The Style Is Very Early And Mid 1990s.
This is Roxette's How Do You Do plagiarized.
I remember listening to this on the radio while driving to school. My jaw DROPPED when I heard “she only comes when she’s on top.” Lol
Can’t stop listening to this on repeat , 😅 his voice and the drumming and everything 😅 beautiful too wow 🫠
I always thought this song needed to be loooonger!
Saw James in Glasgow on 07-Jun-24, this song was amazing, whole set was too.
I dont know. One minute its the early 90s, then i blinked and its the mid 20s, and weve had births and deaths, world leaders come and go, climate change, wars, an IT boom and a globe pandemic to boot.
Plandemic
I've heard this song so many times in my life without getting bored of it. 1st time seeing the video. Just so good. James was such a great band. Did some great work with Eno too.
I love that this is, literally just the one-take of him singing comes instead of hums or anything else, and it's not any of the other stuff they filmed, just him at the table. I love it, and I'd like to see more of this kind of stuff from bands. I've always wanted this kind of thing. '93 Jeez. I was 4 turning 5. I feel like I really didn't hear it more until late 90s early 00's.
I could listen and sing to this all day I wish it was longer ❤
Rewind and hit play
This song needs to be played loud
It's 2020 and i still love this song and the original American Pie series... Here's to the next step.
To the next step!
To the next step.
To the next step!
To the next step!
To the Next Step!
Never could stop loving this song .. even now it's the one I love the most.
Beautiful. Honest. Meaningful. Addictive. SPECIAL
I love James music 🎶 🎵 March 2023.
It's april
Love this song! But no one ever mentions those killer drums!
I am 34 and I somehow only noticed this song this year. Like. I have an EXACT EX I needed this song for.
I just woke up from the strangest dream. It led me straight to this song. Seems like my higher self must have been having a damn good time last night. ❤️
Just seen James live in Newcastle, they were awesome as ever, played all the classics and great audience participation also
I learned the identity of this song through hearing someone doing it at karaoke. I go to him "Hey, the American Pie song!", he was like "Huh?". I was so thrown by someone being completely in the dark about American Pie, AND someone knowing this song completely independently of that, and he clearly expected nobody to know or recognize the song. An evening of destroyed expectations, LOL!
"Your driving me crazy, when are you coming home?" simple song but it says so much.
listening to this 27 years later...I have what I wanted...great kids, money, job, house, relationship and responsibility.
and yet...I hear this today and think of summer, fun, women, drink, travelling, being young, laughing, relationships, turmoil, zero responsibility...omg i miss those days, I can only hope my kids get to enjoy their time like I did back then
Thank you James for this song and the memories it helps trigger
Literally been listening to this half my life, having found James through Seven and Goldmine. Obsessed with this song and video, Tim Booth is such a great actor and this character always gives me Wyndom Earl Twin Peaks vibes.
Hearing this song always puts me in such a state of joyful bliss.
Such a simple video. Still compelling. Love this song.
Who has listened to this at least 3 times on the trot 😁😁
Past or present, can't type any more have to listen for the 4th time running.

there are certain songs I listen to three times in a row as a regular thing. they are each "my favorite song of all time". this is certainly one of them.
It just took me a second to get connected with this song. What a masterpiece!
This will never get old to my ears.
His motions, the lyrics. I'm 44 and now I understand this song.
Heard this song for the first time in ages. Brilliant lyrics.
