Once at the mall, while I was lining up for the cashier, this song started playing on the radio. I couldn’t help but sing along to myself. Then another voice-a man-in the line started singing along, too. It was such a feel-good moment-two humans who didn’t know each other, connected by The Killers through this song. I was smiling inside the whole time, and I bet the other The Killers fan was, too. =)
The Killers are one of the best bands/sounds of the 21st century. They took alternative to a vibrant level that no one else has been able to accomplish. This song (as well as many others of theirs) is solid gold music making. Touches the soul.
I had thought they were just one of those overly poppy punk bands, but looking at their influences, and listening to their music, they really are alt rock. I think the only difference is that they embraced the pop aspect of music a little more than Radiohead or the Smashing Pumpkins.
This was my wifes favorite song. I hope she's dancer now. By that I mean I hope her soul is free to fly among the angels in heaven with her family and friends. I'll always miss you baby!
My Dennis died from cancer almost 30 years ago and I still mourn his death but he is in heaven and one day we will be together again. Hang on to love because that’s the only thing that matters in this world and the next one.
6 years since my wife died. Haven't heard this for ages but it came into my mind and made me cry again this morning. Nearly the anniversary again. I think he wrote it when his mum was dying. Great lyrics great song.
Terribly sorry for your loss, Owen:-( Indeed, something as random as a song can send memories rushing back to overwhelm one. I pray you hold onto the beautiful memories you created with your dear wife. Peace be with you.
So sorry, she will live in your heart as long as you remember her. People don't die, they turn into memories. Here you have an unknown guy to talk if you need to. Best wishes.
When I first moved to Las Vegas in 2001 I saw The Killers playing - this is 100% true - playing at an outside patio of a Starbucks. Needless to say their performance was free!
I never had heard this song until last Saturday. I am from Brazil but I was in Rome with my wife celebrating our 10th-year anniversary and there were 2 street artists playing this song in this square near Sisto Bridge. It was the perfect day, the sunset was beautiful over the water of the Tiber River. We just grab 2 beers, sat down and enjoyed that moment. This song hit me in its first words. I spent 10 days in Italy but this is the particular moment that will make me remember this trip forever. How magic is a song in our lives?
Igor Santos I hope you now feel better and blessed hearing this very deep & meaningful song - it’s divine poetry really IMHO ❤️🤝🤴🏻👍🏻 love , peace and friendship brother from your “ brother” from another mother, Prince Alexis from Austria 🇦🇹
Flowers is irritated that people don't quite seem to get the lyric, and that fans were unhappy with the song's dance beat. "It's supposed to be a dance song, it goes with the chorus," he says. "If you can't put that together, you're an idiot. I just don't get why there's a confusion about it." - Rolling Stone Not so respectful and a bit of ego.
@DAMunzy⭕⃤☕ to be fair. A lot of music artists get irritated when their fans misinterpret their song. Some just a bit more aggressive than others. Sometimes the song is obvious Sometimes its not. This song wasn't that obvious so yeah.
This video was filmed at Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. My last time there was in April, 2012 when I took my Troop of Boy Scouts there for spring break. We had a wonderful time exploring the goblins and hoodoos, camping, and hiking slot canyons in the San Rafael Reef. Little did I know I would lose one of my Scouts to suicide 5 months later. Watching this video brought back so many memories of better times. Grief truly never leaves you. It's the price we pay for loving those souls whose lives are intertwined with our own. I miss you Braedon and wonder often who you would be today. You were an amazing young man. You should be here. 💜
Resonates with Benidorm in my first couple of ventures in the 'madhouse' But also my first times of great weather and balmy nights with the young 'uns . 60 plus virgin ...loved it...this sounded out so often.
My daughter and I got to see them a few years ago, in Cleveland, Ohio, they gave a FREE concert. I've seen a lot of concerts, but this was one of the BEST ones ever. I am now a fan. It was the HOTTEST day of the year and they gave it their all. Brandon is quite the showman, and he made sure that everyone could see him to the best of his ability. His suit was full of sweat, and he didn't miss a beat. What a band!!
FAQ -The correct lyrics are "are we human, or are we dancer" -The above line was inspired by a quote from Hunter S. Thompson, saying America is "raising a generation of dancers". Dancers is used to symbolize that we live to meet expectations, like we're choreographed. (up to interpretation?) -In my personal opinion, the word "dancer" was used instead of "dancers" for a reason. It is used to let us know he is not talking about the profession or hobby, but rather a state of being (like a species?). This way it matches how he used "human" instead of "humans". -Yes, The Killers are the best band ever.
+A.L Hall I don't know for the interpretation of dancers... As a former dancer myself, I used this way to express my feelings, even if it was choregraphed. Plus, the choregraphy is nothing... It's your interpretation of it that makes it interesting. The more you put emotions in your movements, the more you can touch the heart of your public. So to me, "Dancer" here express our ability to be emotionnal beings. Aaand I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, english is not my first langage so I might have written some strange things XD (And I don't really know The Killers work, but surely this song is a masterpiece >w
+IsuzusanH6 I absolutely agree with you about the choreography. I used the above interpretation simply because it's the most widely accepted interpretation of the quote. I don't think it is meant to put down choreography, but rather get his point across in an easy to understand way. And the best part of art is that everyone's view on it is based upon their experiences! The song could be about aliens for all we know. All we can do is speculate. Your English is very good. It is my first language, and I think you're better at it than me! :)
+IsuzusanH6 i understood it more as dancing to someone elses music, to somebodys orders. but hey, thats the nice thing, interpretation is always unique
I lost my dad in 2014 when I was 14 it was heartbreaking 🤍 this song played in the background the last time I was with him 🤍 he hugged me and kissed my forehead and told me he loved me 🤍🤍 Today this song plays in the background of all the achievements in my life and I just know he is with me for example ~ The first time I drove in my car with my full license it played on the radio - The time I went into the back to get my business card for my small business it played in the back never have I heard music in the bank - on my 18th birthday it played on the radio when I was getting ready to go out - or when I brought my little sister on her first holiday since we lost him the singer at the Irish bar sang it as soon as we got our drinks and took our seat without us requesting it since the night he said goodbye to me that night on the 18th of may it has played anytime I was sad or accomplished something it’s his way of letting me know he is with me 🤍🤍🤍 Thank you so much for making this song it means everything to me when I hear it 🤍🤍🤍
I know what you mean Megan...i lost my dad christmas 2020 and this was his funeral song i feel comfort when i play it as i know hes looking down on me with a big smile 😁
when I was little (now I am 14 years old) I listened to this song with my dad and told him I would have to put it back. my dad died 4 years ago, and since then I've been looking for this song, sometimes remembering small parts of this song. today I found it. I'm crying❤️
Everyone seems to be asking so I looked it up, and found this, "The lyric “Are we human, or are we dancer?” was inspired by a quote from legendary “gonzo journalist” Hunter S. Thompson. The original quote…if it ever existed is "America is raising a generation of dancers, afraid to take one step out of line."
Yes! Me too. This is the only song that I’ve wondered what it meant so I looked it up and of course it was from something brilliant! Of course Brandon wrote it off of a Hunter S. Thompson quote💕 I believe he said they won an award for the most grammatically incorrect song, which I also learned is a thing.🤣
Yeah it seems the emphasis is supposed to be on you questioning the existence of your individual humanity so that’s why it’s are you an individual human or an individual dancer rather than the plural form. Very deep and a great addition to the furtherance of the humanities and our understanding of how romance, soul and devotion can give insight to inner self over the fabrications and parameters set for us to conform and fall in line.
My nana passed away on her 73rd birthday 16th December 2023. She loved this song. She was such a beautiful person taken way too soon. She was so full of life and so youthful at heart. I’ll miss you for the rest of my life Nana. Love you forever and always❤️
The song is asking the question: Are we free, or are we subjects of society? Human means we can do what we want when we want. Dancer is referring to a puppet dancing on string. Having someone move you were they want you to go, thinking for you, and living our life like a routine that is all planned out. If you listen to the other lyrics you can see that dancer is actually referring to a puppet. "Cut the cord" or let us free is essentially what he is saying.
Finally a comment explaining the point of this song, you have no idea how many times I've listened to this just to figure out what the fuck he's talking about. Thanks m8.
Its 2016 and this song is still awesome! I remember when I first heard it and saw it on the tv on a music channel. This is how I discovered this song and band. I kept hearing over and over until I finally started to like it, at first I didn't care. This was the very first Killers song I heard. This song brings back good old memories of 2010's.
I just stayed up for 4 hours trying to remember what this song. Couldn’t remember the lyrics or the name. Only the video. Took me 4 hours to remember. It’s 2am, 100% worth. This is an absolute banger
My sister passed away when i was 2 years old. My mom recorded me saying "this song reminds me of my sister" when i was 9 years old. My mother was shocked because me and my sister had a good bond when she was born. She used to cry a lot but when i was there to play with her she would start laughing and smiling. At my 10th birthday my mom and dad gave me a cd with The Killers - Human on it. Everytime something sh*t happens this song will come on the radio ( like right now i broke my thumb ). Me and my mom were riding to the hospital and my mother turned on the radio, this song came up and i had that several times. And when this song comes up i feel something in my body. And then is when i know i have a beautiful sister angel standing on my shoulder. I believe in miracles, sometimes miracles are closer then you think. I love you Eva R.I.P 11-06-2004 You will for always be my angel❤
I was born in 1948. When this song came on the radio, it was a buzz, like hearing a favourite hit in the 1960s, and that's a rare thing nowadays. It's tremendously musical, but the best thing about it for me was that I feel the deep meaning, without having to hear it spelt out in ten thousand words (as is the current fashion).
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm a younger person, but I love the music from the 60s too! I think segregating ourselves as to what music we can or can't like based on age is ridiculous. Music often transcends that, delving not into a period of time, but instead into the core of human emotion and spirit. Time doesn't change those things. Have a good day, sir!
@slim shiddy I read that it is lament about the decline in the character and ethics of American youth from the well rounded humans of yesteryear. (Please don't shoot the messenger).
same, it gives me nostalgia vibes. Because i remember being a little innocent 7 year old listening to this song on the radio when it came out. It reminds me of when i was happy lol.
This song makes me feel better, in the good ones and in the bad ones this song just gives me hope, and makes me appreciate my life. Love you The killers
My estimate is that The Killers should be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2029. If they do not get inducted on their very first try, there is something definitely wrong! One of the best bands going today! ❤
I'll tell you what that something wrong is, the only thing getting inducted there means is that you're liked by a small group of blokes in Cleveland who wouldn't recognise music if it hit them in their faces!
I’m 27… I remember listening to this song late at night How many years have passed since I last heard this song… My mama my dad my best friend and god mother are gone This song reminds me of them and the good times….. I’m just a simple man missing the best times I ever had in life…. “You taught me everything I know” “Wave goodbye wish me well”
I danced with my brother Billy at a family "do" to this song.. My brother knew all the words so I was well impressed. Sadley Billy is no longer with us, he died August 2022 aged 73... lovely memories for me with this song... I am now approaching my 74th birthday. birthday... miss Billy so much..xxxx
There are people here who are sharing their reasons for loving this song be it sad, loneliness, joy, connection... And the mark of a great song is one that bring solace or enjoyment to many for unique reasons. I love this song.
Tears coming out of my eyes remembering those days back when this came in the Radio and I could not afford an mp3 player. I was in college. I was one of the fans of this song. Love from BANGALORE. thank you RADIO INDIGO 91.9.
Black people are cool, as a white person, that is black....*where's the whitest place in the world*....... WAIT A RED HOT MINUTE!!!! Where the f#$k is the black person from south africa making ANY difference here?
I lost a very close friend about a year ago, and this was his favourite tune, whether it be raining, sunny, in a bar, in a club, or just hitting life's moments, feel for you, stay strong my friend. x
No amount of time with a loved one, is enough. Quit everything so you can spend more time with them, especially when there's a cancer diagnosis. Forget about what the world seems to expect... for just a few months or a year or two... you'll catch right back up and you'll never regret it spending more time with a loved one.
This was my mum's favourite song, I didn't know at the time, but the first ever CD she had bought me was The Killers Day & Age, this song was on it... as her health deteriorated, she had fond memories of this song.. I often come back to listen and remember not only her, but the only time in my life I can remember when I was truly happy - the amount of feelings from happiness, sadness and nostalgia this song brings is something, I can't listen to it without crying, nothing has been the same since she passed away 8 years ago, it still feels like yesterday - I miss you mum
Oh bless Sally and your family. I know what its like, we have buried 5 dogs over the years. My mum was an avid animal lover. I have 3 manx cats and I adore them.
This is a jewel of music, even if the years go by it generates the same feeling and brings back even more memories of that time, if the world would end tomorrow I would wait listening to this song closing my eyes. Esto es una joya de la música, aunque pasen los años genera la misma sensación y trae aun mas recuerdos de la epoca, si se acabara el mundo mañana lo esperaría escuchando esta canción.
In this deeply existential song by The Killers, with its stirring query of the meaning of human life, the ultimate question it asks is whether we are merely humans or also dancers, participants in the larger cosmic context. It asks whether humans exist as no more than individuated life forms, scheduled to live out a short existence with no eternal prospects after we "cut the cord." Or, whether as humans we are active, ensouled, dancing material beings. We live as humans who ask existential questions looking for meaningful, ultimate answers. "I'm on my knees looking for the answer," say the lyrics, but "there is no message we're receiving." This indicates humans exist in an unfathomable Universe in which they live as "nervous" beings with "cold hands" who must assume responsibility for acts of free will as they question their very existence. At moments in our individual lives, the lyrics say we "see an open door" to the Beyond, in which at the last moment of life, "when the call comes" and we are on "the platform" ready for the final takeoff, we "clear our hearts," kindly acquiesce and "surrender" in a final leap of faith. The lyrics say humans leave behind grace, virtue, good, soul, romance, devotion --the things that make us distinctly human. But we participate in a larger show, that of dancers in the Great Terpsichorean Universe, the "home" of which we dream. The band performs in a mise-en-scene of nonhuman life forms. The tiger and lion signify the Universe-as-Predator and absorber of individuated human lives. The vulture signifies death, our absorption into the Great Beyond. The band at the end gazes out beyond Earth, beyond human life, to that "open door. " The answer to the plaintive, existential question of whether we exist as humans or as dancers is that we, in essence, exist as both. In truth, we are embodied souls/ensouled bodies living within the greater OverSoul, the Atma. We are not merely humans, after all. The task, then, is to disremember the existential questions --plenty of that anon --and enjoy the dance now in unfettered pas de deux with the embracing Universe. This song by The Killers provides some fullness-of-faith moments in which we can do just that.
@@vik5592: Thanks. But I am quite busy in the middle of a grad degree program in American history at Gettysburg College. In this present instance, I was so moved by this Killer's song, I had to understand what it meant.
Verse 1] I did my best to notice When the call came down the line Up to the platform of surrender I was brought but I was kind And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes, clear your heart Cut the cord [Chorus] Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer? [Verse 2] Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Give my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could And so long to devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye, wish me well You've got to let me go [Chorus] Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer? [Bridge] Will your system be alright When you dream of home tonight? There is no message we're receiving Let me know, is your heart still beating? [Chorus] Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer? [Outro] Are we human or are we dancer? Are we human or are we dancer?
In an interview with MTV, the singer confirmed that the lyric was “dancer” and that it was taken from the Hunter S. Thompson quote - 'We're raising a generation of dancers'.
KrypTic Siren gotta LOVE it. EVERYONE loves rap music nowadays but this kinda music has always been what makes my heart pop and my emotions move....it's about all that does.
gastedbeast that's the message i get from the song too. Music today has to have a beat you can dance to these days to be popular (or you have to talk about how awesome you are). Music that inspires you to feel something is rarely ever played on the radio anymore.
This is the soundtrack to me turning my life around. 75 pounds so far. Writing might take off soon. Reconnected with my BFF. Fuckin aye. We all have that fire inside of us to do things we never thought possible. That fire burns so hot that the only way to extinguish it is to run as fast as we can. And that fire spreads from us to others. Our soul is the kindling and once your soul gets set ablaze, you get lit. And when you get lit, you light up others, and more and more people get lit. And you gain new people in your life who you cherish and who are important to your well being as a person. And then the fire spreads from you to them and then from them to the people they love the most. And then soon you started something that makes normal, everyday people become warriors. You are a warrior. You just need to choose to unleash yourself.
I figured since everybody reacted positively to this, here's my story. This is the 4th rewrite since I started last year. I have over 200 MS Word documents many of which are over 10 pages long of just long marathon writing sessions. www.wattpad.com/story/35476818-jackie/parts
This song makes me so nostalgic! I think this is an all-time great song! Love the guitar riff and boss like melody. It's the kind of song that gets better the more spins you give it! I also like the philosophical meaning behind the song. It's just very well written and composed.
I knew of this song before, but got to know it better when making an effort to get to know music since the Millennium better. It's become a new firm favourite of mine.
This is such a *great* song from start to finish. Great Lyrics...great melody....great video....and a great BIG...beat...beat...beat...beat! *The Killers forever!*
Some songs are worth listening to no matter which year it is or how many years have passed since it's been release . 😊😊😊✌️✌️Hey random stranger, it feels good to know some people still care for good music!

The cut the cord ' oh man that bit always got me . When my fiancé had a stroke in his sleep 2019 & I woke up & saw him ' he was rushed to the hospital after I was told he was brain-dead shit '5 hours later I removed life support. But that bit of the song always got me thinking even before he had the stroke. Beautiful song .
My friend died exactly 10 years ago and this was his favourite song... sometimes I wonder, if he knew the meaning of this song even though he was 8 and couldn’t speak english...
Are we human? or are we dancer? This question has led me into a path of enlightenment, I purse programming, AI, read a lot, and always try to be a better human because of this question. I bring it out every now and then with my friends are something to ponder on. Classic.
Más de 10 años en buscar esta canción y hoy por fin la encuentro :'), la primera vez que la escuché fue en ExaTv y de ahí se me pego el coro, pero no sabía ni como se llamaba y que decían jajaja. Gracias RUclips ❤️
Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Give my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could And so long to devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye Wish me well You got to let me go ...one of the best verses in any song, ever.
I class this song as the one that made me a proper Killers fan, obviously as a kid I heard Brightside and Somebody Told me etc on the radio, but when I started getting a little older Human was my jam along with Read My Mind, and when Brandon went solo and had songs like Crossfire and Only The Young, I become a giant fan, I had the Day and Age/Battle Born albums and to this day they are my fav band by far, can't stop listening, Brandon is a genius and can sing anything, his voice is scary good and he's so humble.
Coincido plenamente ! Soy una mujer de 67 años , y anoche me encontré bailando al ritmo de está canción fantástica ...te transporta a lo más alto ! Genial 👍👍😊🎶🎵🙌🙌
I remember listening to this song while i was working so hard to obtain my English B1 with Cambridge at the year 2021 (im spanish), "my hands were cold and i was nervous sometimes", but this song made me feel that i could do it if i wanted and i keeping working as much as i could for it.
Eu tinha apenas 12 anos em 2012, e eu realmente gostava de ouvir the killers, e hoje em dia posso dizer que nada mudou. Tempos de corona, se puder fique em casa. cuidem-se.
The lead singer of The Killers, for lack of better words, is just awesome.
His voice plants Flowers in my mind *laughs for 20 years because of that pun
Oh kinda like how LZ Plant's a Plant in my mind? d:
He's also cute.

Your father is very proud of you, wherever he is, man

The Killers are one of the best bands/sounds of the 21st century. They took alternative to a vibrant level that no one else has been able to accomplish. This song (as well as many others of theirs) is solid gold music making. Touches the soul.
I had thought they were just one of those overly poppy punk bands, but looking at their influences, and listening to their music, they really are alt rock. I think the only difference is that they embraced the pop aspect of music a little more than Radiohead or the Smashing Pumpkins.
Hear hear!

great song, still dont understand though whats meant by ''are we human, or are we dancer''? wtf does that mean? :D
This was my wifes favorite song. I hope she's dancer now. By that I mean I hope her soul is free to fly among the angels in heaven with her family and friends. I'll always miss you baby!
I'm sorry for your loss man, stay strong bro
Stay strong! Im sure she was beautiful inside and out.
If she loved this song she was full of soul. And soul does not die but lives forever. We do not come from nowhere, we do not go to nowhere.
Sorry for your loss

This band is so respectful towards their audience ! No ego issues. Just art and search for humanity.
Flowers is irritated that people don't quite seem to get the lyric, and that fans were unhappy with the song's dance beat. "It's supposed to be a dance song, it goes with the chorus," he says. "If you can't put that together, you're an idiot. I just don't get why there's a confusion about it."
- Rolling Stone
Not so respectful and a bit of ego.
@DAMunzy⭕⃤☕ to be fair. A lot of music artists get irritated when their fans misinterpret their song. Some just a bit more aggressive than others. Sometimes the song is obvious Sometimes its not. This song wasn't that obvious so yeah.

Great music
Luke Faulkner sameee here bro

My daughter and I got to see them a few years ago, in Cleveland, Ohio, they gave a
FREE concert.
Seeing them tonight in Brisbane, Australia! ❤🎉 SOOO EXCITED!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
FAQ
-The correct lyrics are "are we human, or are we dancer"
-The above line was inspired by a quote from Hunter S. Thompson, saying America is "raising a generation of dancers". Dancers is used to symbolize that we live to meet expectations, like we're choreographed. (up to interpretation?)
-In my personal opinion, the word "dancer" was used instead of "dancers" for a reason.
Aaand I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, english is not my first langage so I might have written some strange things XD
(And I don't really know The Killers work, but surely this song is a masterpiece >w
+IsuzusanH6
I absolutely agree with you about the choreography.
+A.L Hall So rare to see people smart enough not to dumb down art these days! cheers!
sorry to break it to you mate but it says are we human or are we denser

I lost my dad in 2014 when I was 14 it was heartbreaking 🤍 this song played in the background the last time I was with him 🤍 he hugged me and kissed my forehead and told me he loved me 🤍🤍
Today this song plays in the background of all the achievements in my life and I just know he is with me for example
~ The first time I drove in my car with my full license it played on the radio
- The time I went into the back to get my business card for my small business it played in the back never have I heard music in the bank
- on my 18th birthday it played on the radio when I was getting ready to go out
- or when I brought my little sister on her first holiday since we lost him the singer at the Irish bar sang it as soon as we got our drinks and took our seat without us requesting it
since the night he said goodbye to me that night on the 18th of may it has played anytime I was sad or accomplished something it’s his way of letting me know he is with me 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you so much for making this song it means everything to me when I hear it 🤍🤍🤍
I am really sorry for your loss ❤️😞 but wow what you are doing is amazing! :)
I know what you mean Megan...i lost my dad christmas 2020 and this was his funeral song i feel comfort when i play it as i know hes looking down on me with a big smile 😁
In this way your father will always be a part of your life.
Feel you my mum died and this was played at her funeral it took so long to listen to this again stay strong things take time to heal
Wow
This song never get old.... Love it for long.. Long... Long term.
when I was little (now I am 14 years old) I listened to this song with my dad and told him I would have to put it back. my dad died 4 years ago, and since then I've been looking for this song, sometimes remembering small parts of this song. today I found it. I'm crying❤️
❤️🌼
At least you will always have this song to remind you of him (not that you need reminding of him) I also lost my dad about 5 years ago

Everyone seems to be asking so I looked it up, and found this, "The lyric “Are we human, or are we dancer?” was inspired by a quote from legendary “gonzo journalist” Hunter S. Thompson. The original quote…if it ever existed is
"America is raising a generation of dancers, afraid to take one step out of line."
Yes! Me too. This is the only song that I’ve wondered what it meant so I looked it up and of course it was from something brilliant! Of course Brandon wrote it off of a Hunter S. Thompson quote💕 I believe he said they won an award for the most grammatically incorrect song, which I also learned is a thing.🤣
this comment needs more attention so people stop making the same tired jokes over and over.
Nice info, and I'm not even American
We're certainly dancers now. Walk in that direction, stand there, don't sit here,........
2009 was a great year for alternative. Coldplay, muse, the killers all hits

My nana passed away on her 73rd birthday 16th December 2023. She loved this song. She was such a beautiful person taken way too soon. She was so full of life and so youthful at heart. I’ll miss you for the rest of my life Nana. Love you forever and always❤️
Rip to her but her taste was ass
😊
The song is asking the question: Are we free, or are we subjects of society? Human means we can do what we want when we want. Dancer is referring to a puppet dancing on string. Having someone move you were they want you to go, thinking for you, and living our life like a routine that is all planned out. If you listen to the other lyrics you can see that dancer is actually referring to a puppet. "Cut the cord" or let us free is essentially what he is saying.
Finally a comment explaining the point of this song, you have no idea how many times I've listened to this just to figure out what the fuck he's talking about. Thanks m8.
I agree
+WfxRS actually, it is asking if we are human or are we dancer
Watch yourself bro you speak fact and a lot of mentally weak people can't handle the truth.

+Hide or Escape That is nice, I am glad that you like it, I love it!!! ;)
+Hide or Escape it is still 2010's man :P music never really age. I still listen to planet of tunes form the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's
Just the same as you.I saw this video the same week it was released at MTV
haha yup
+Hide or Escape thankyou for these words!
I just stayed up for 4 hours trying to remember what this song. Couldn’t remember the lyrics or the name. Only the video. Took me 4 hours to remember. It’s 2am, 100% worth. This is an absolute banger
Damn, such a mood. Respect that you found it eventually tho^^

Just simply one of the best songs written. The Killers have made many great tunes but I doubt any will top this.
I love you Eva R.I.P 11-06-2004
You will for always be my angel❤

Rest in peace, she's in a much better place right now man, gotta move on!
sorry about your loss of one you loved so dearly. it's inspiring to hear about your signs - your faith. love to you. R.I.P. Eva
@@theguyman2620 Not cool, dude.
beautiful.
Keep on Rockin!
@slim shiddy I read that it is lament about the decline in the character and ethics of American youth from the well rounded humans of yesteryear. (Please don't shoot the messenger).
I kept thinking of this of some forgotten 80s hit that had been picked up again.

This song makes me feel better, in the good ones and in the bad ones this song just gives me hope, and makes me appreciate my life. Love you The killers
you described it perfectly👍🏻
That's why they're killers it is a killer song in a positive way like it makes me tear up every time
❤
My estimate is that The Killers should be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2029. If they do not get inducted on their very first try, there is something definitely wrong! One of the best bands going today! ❤
I'll tell you what that something wrong is, the only thing getting inducted there means is that you're liked by a small group of blokes in Cleveland who wouldn't recognise music if it hit them in their faces!

You’ll be ok friend. Just keep that head up
No amount of time with a loved one, is enough.

Some songs are timeless, and this is one of them , great to get this 72 year old onto the dance floor x
"
The answer to the plaintive, existential question of whether we exist as humans or as dancers is that we, in essence, exist as both.

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord
[Chorus]
Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancer?
[Verse 2]
Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye, wish me well
You've got to let me go
[Chorus]
Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancer?

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know, is your heart still beating?
[Chorus]
Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees

You go girl

I read somewhere it was "denser" instead of "dancer"
Its "denser" not "dancer"
The cut the cord ' oh man that bit always got me . When my fiancé had a stroke in his sleep 2019 & I woke up & saw him ' he was rushed to the hospital after I was told he was brain-dead shit '5 hours later I removed life support. But that bit of the song always got me thinking even before he had the stroke. Beautiful song .
Growing up actually sucks, this song was my childhood..

My friend died exactly 10 years ago and this was his favourite song... sometimes I wonder, if he knew the meaning of this song even though he was 8 and couldn’t speak english...
When you actually look it up on the internet, it was released 10 years ago. The Album was released 2008
I'm pretty sure he did not.

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well
You got to let me go
...one of the best verses in any song, ever.
I agree, it's the verse I've picked to quote in the back of a custom jacket I'm going to make .
I'm so honored for rediscovering this masterpiece!
Here here 🥂
same here...
Just heard this at a funeral - got everyone rocking and crying
This song matches everything what you think freedom too.
Everything is Gold....
I'm sorry for your loss.
dancing on the other side...
I want this song for my funeral
I remember this song 6 years ago, damn time went quick.
I know right

Wish I went to the same parties as you

I remember listening to this song while i was working so hard to obtain my English B1 with Cambridge at the year 2021 (im spanish), "my hands were cold and i was nervous sometimes", but this song made me feel that i could do it if i wanted and i keeping working as much as i could for it.
Love this song.
Eu tinha apenas 12 anos em 2012, e eu realmente gostava de ouvir the killers, e hoje em dia posso dizer que nada mudou.
Tempos de corona, se puder fique em casa.
