Movies cast 100% on looks, the Onion only 87% on good looks.
Hollywood relied on connections overall. Actors/writers had to trained themselves to fit certain chosen criterias to get in. The ones with the best connections get the job. So the pool is small, the styles are few. Meanwhile the part for the onions can cast a wider net and because it is only a few minutes, the auditions are much more easy to select and perfected.

You gotta remember, these videos and 90% of the Onion's core content stopped around the time the Onion was bought out by Clinton backers in the mid-2010's. They've been a shell of their former operation for almost a decade. They're never coming back now that G/O Media owns them (hardcore soulless business conglomerate that hates being mocked for soullessness), a company which somehow hates the Onion more than the Clinton backers did.

The Onion was so brilliant. I wasn’t aware of all these videos until this past year. Have these always been available on RUclips? For years I knew of the written Onion content… but these videos are pure gold. These two hosts are absolutely perfect. You don’t even think of them as comedians, as they play their roles so wickedly well.

Onion videos are prime material before 2014 or so, when they moved from NYC to Chicago. A lot of staff jumped ship, and now the recent content is subpar as fuck. Nothing beats that Golden Age, however.

The part where there's an imaginary news reporter on satellite is mostly true. These news shows have been known to use green screens to make them appear to be in another country when they're really in studio.
I seriously doubt any major TV news organization in the U.S. has done that.
