In his last moments, Matoro feels no fear. He know he has succeeded--the Toa Mahri are safe, able to resume their lives in Metru Nui. The Turaga and Matoran will know that they became true heroes. Matoro does not see himself as a hero. As a Matoran, a Toa Inika, and a Toa Mahri, all he ever tried to do was his duty. Now that duty has led him to his destiny.

While I wish the torsos weren't so flat in some cases, it's amazing to me how much these Toa (the most diverse and strange yet!) compliment each other. Isolate any one of them and their individual flaws become more apparent. But gather them as the team they were meant to be, and all that just washes away. They bring out the best in each other and make one of the sickest Toa teams of all.

you described it perfectly Nick, like always. Hewkii for example gets a lot of flack, i dig his wild design but by himself he seems weak, same with Kongu and Nuparu. Jaller, Hahli and Matoro though are the top 3 for me. But if you put them together they look like a mighty force to be reckoned with.
side note I do dig how the cg mini movie gave me flashbacks of power rangers in space seeing them all in rocking in their seats of the carrier sub just like how we saw the rangers being launched in the shuttle.

The Toa Mahri are the best designed team of Toa in my opinion because it was not one of those teams (especially the Hordika) where if you’ve bought one you’ve essentially bought them all. My favorite Toa set is Vakama (Metru) but this is the greatest team

Also there are like 6 Titan sets for this year hot damn.

It may be more recent, but this is the most nostalgic team of sets for me. When 2007 came these Toa Mahri to me were the coolest sets yet, I would spend hours seeing reviews and replaying the commercial. Although I don't think these are the best Toa sets, these are my personal favourites, alongside 06 and 01, though I think this one beats out those 2 just for the nostalgia and for the story. I could make an entire essay and why these sets are great, and why the team as a whole is great. And of course, remember Matoro.

In the mahri mini movie you can see Jaller having his Hahnah crab being stored on his back and you can do that with the set also, of course the crab is not actually connected in any way, but just held in place by Jallers breathing tubes. This configuriation gives Jaller very distinct silhuette.

'07 had the *best* line-up of sets in Bionicle. Nothing even comes close: the Toa were dope, the Barraki were absolutely devilish and looked as freaky as the theme was, you had some really dope titans (MAKUTA EVEN RETURNS!!!), and the story was brilliant.
'07 will always be my favorite Bionicle year.

I really enjoy how the Mahri brought back Toa having unique builds between each other. That diversity is what makes the original Toa so iconic and from then on they scaled back on diversity until the Toa Metru, as great as they are, were just palette swaps sans mask and weapon. That trend was finally broken with the Mahri and the Barraki next MN Monday will really exemplify that diversity.

When I moved out to go to college, I packed up most of my Bionicles to sell because my parents were planning on moving and didn't want to lug all of them across the country. I ended up keeping only 3 sets and 2 of them were Toa Mahri (Hahli and Matoro). I think that is a testament to how great these sets were designed (though I agree with you in that they aren't quite Metru level)

I already mentioned how much I loved the Toa Inika but this cemented them as favorite Toa of all time. Theses guys not only had to fight an army of dangerous sea creatures but they fought 6 warlords who once threatened the entire universe. Not to mention they were pushed to extremes doing things hero’s would never, should never do. Not to mention they were fighting against a literal ticking clock to save the universe. Only to (spoiler alert) lose in the end. Requiring one of their members who was tried harder than any other and was never able to shake his feeling of inadequacy, to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the universe! Words cannot describe how much I love the toa inika/mahri.

While my heart will always belong to the Toa sets from '01 to '04, my brain tells me that these are by far and away my favorite Toa sets. While the experimental nature of their build can be rather hit-and-miss, finally getting a team of truly unique Toa sets for the first time was such a nice change of pace. I especially adore Jaller's incredibly well-balanced mix of dark red, orange and black coloring as well as Hahli's extremely eye-catching combination of dark blue and vibrant lime pieces.

I actually finished putting together a Vezon and Fenrakk for the first time right as this video dropped, which felt pretty fitting despite the gap in release years. Really impressed with that set, too. But on to the Mahri, Hahli was definitely my favorite Bionicle growing up, and she got played with until her joints were completely shot. Not surprising considering the color, though. It did always bother me how she didn't have any torso armor, though, and she really could have used some. It would have made her design much more complete.

2007 was my favorite Bionicle year because every canister set was designed in such a way that they had their own unique silhouette. The Toa Inika/Mahri were easily my favorite team partially as a result of this (although I do question why they decided to make Kongu look more muscular, which isn't what people normally expect from air Toa). Spring-loaded blasters and Hahli's lime joints aside, these were all stellar sets, and I was proud to have collected them all as a kid!

One: give him a hordika chest piece.
Two: switch his upper arms and upper legs around so his legs are longer than his arms.
Three: make his cortex blaster shoulder mounted by taking the blaster and mounting it on his left upper arm where a pin goes.
Finally: *give him a hand* and make him hold his staff with both hands.

The sets were good and all felt unique from each other like you mentioned, and that continues throughout the year. Then there was the story with a lot of big moments like Matoro's sacrifice which many fans still feel to this day. Just such a good year for the line. I’ve always liked how the color schemes and even their builds were somewhat consistent as they evolved as Toa.
Jaller lost the gold elements from his Inika form but his colors were still Metru red and orange, the orange just lost it’s transparency which makes it seem as if they downgraded because they aren’t as OP of Toa as they were on Voya Nui. his build was initially the same minus the chest piece too.
Hahli’s white and Metru blue turned to a lime green and that almost feels as if the murky waters stained her colors, her build is pretty similar too trading the forearms for something slender.
Nuparu went from this bulked up punk rock Toa to a slender defense typa Toa and retained his chest piece and color scheme except gaining a darker grey instead of the lighter shade he had.
Kongu, like nuparu had a pretty drastic change, going from the most slender of the Toa to being the stockiest, but retained his color scheme for the most part trading silver for grey works for the environment I think, I still think it’s funny he became the Toa of gun lolz.
Matoro changed into a hunchback with a pretty drastic change despite keeping most of the same pieces from his Inika counterpart, if his thigh armor and upper arm armor were switched it would’ve been more in line with his Inika form too, he also retained his color scheme just ditched the transparent colors for opaque ones.
And finally Hewkii, who retained the keetorange but swapped the gunmetal for the darker black. He also kept it consistent with the overall weirdness that the Toa of stone were prone to, I never got Hewkii or Kongu but still plan to at some point. Anyway kinda cool I think

It's interesting that we're taking a look at these right now, given that the Barraki were released first. Either way, the Toa Mahri were my second complete team of Toa, but only four of them I obtained within the year of release. Hahli was my first of these, which I received on my 10th birthday that year. I also strangely never had the lime joint issue with her or with Ehlek (the green Barraki), and she also marks the debut of the Inika legs, rounded feet and shoulder armor in solid Metru blue (Earth blue), She is also the final set to have the Piraka torso in that color. Subsequently, I obtained Jaller and Hewkii Mahri from Toys R Us on two different ocassions, though my copy of Jaller was missing the shell for the Hana Crab that is holding his Cordak Blaster, so I needed a replacement for that. Jaller Mahri marks the final appearance of the Inika torso and lower legs in Metru red, and the second and final appearance of the Visorak double socket joints in orange. The armor on his hips is exclusive to him in orange, and his "Power Sword" is in three other sets after this. Hewkii Mahri marks the debut of the spiked Inika feet in black, the Piraka torso in "Keet-orange" (flame yellow), and the only appearance of the Piraka arm in that color. He is also the first Bionicle set to have the "Morning Star" piece from the Knights' Kingdom II theme as knee armor. He is also the last set to have the Inika leg in black, and of both types of double socket joint in Keet-Orange. His "Aqua Warblade" appears in eight other sets after this. Kongu Mahri I obtained on December 27 of '07, after exchanging another item at a Target. He introduces a shorter eye stock piece in transparent fluorescent green, and marks the final appearance of the Toa Metru knee armor and of the Toa Hordika lower arm in Metru green (earth green). Conversely, he marks the debut of the Inika knee armor in and 2x2x2 round brick in Metru green, and the only appearance of the Rahkshi feet in that color. He also introduces a new type of chest armor, and the only appearance of the Toa Metru legs in dark stone. I don't remember when I obtained Matoro Mahri, but it may have been after the new year that year. He marks the debut of the Inika torso in white, and the final appearance of the Visorak double socket joint in medium blue. He is also the first set to have the epaulet-like armor in silver. His Twin Cutters appear in a few other sets, but in different colors. In contrast to being my first Inika, Nuparu was my last Toa Mahri, though I didn't obtain him until roughly April of 2008, when I found him in a bookstore. As with Hahli and Matoro and one other character from '07, he has a visor in transparent fluorescent blue which attaches under his mask. He marks the debut of the webbed Piraka feet in black, and the final appearance of the rounded Inika chest plate in the same color. The armor on his arms and legs is exclusive to his set in black as well. His Kanohi Volitak, is also the only one of the Toa Mahri's masks which reappears in another set later on...

Just bought Hewkii for my birthday last December. Wasn't my favorite figure but I finally complete the Mahri from Matoro to Hahli to Jaller to Kongu to Nuparu and finally Hewkii. A great line of figure.

To me the third best Toa team after Mata and Metru. I really loved this wave in general from the Toa, to the Titans and smaller sets. I had/still have all of the Mahri, and was also a big fan of the Barraki and had 3 of them.

2007 was when I first got into Bionicle. At the time, I managed to get my hands on Jaller, Matoro and Hahli for the Toa, Takadox, Kalmah, Ehlek and Mantax for the Barraki, and even Gadunka too, but being a kid I couldn't get all six for either of the main teams (and in particular I missed out on Maxilos). Furthermore, due to play when I was younger, My Hahli had several of her lime joints break. Now, 15 years later, I'm changing that. I've already got Kongu and Nuparu used off of Bricklink, with Hewkii and replacement parts for Hahli on they way. As an Adult now, I'm excited to display all 6 Toa Mahri in my room, and I'm thinking I'll probably try and get the last two Barraki I'm missing too.

The Toa Mahri are the best Toa Team when it comes to different designs. Instead of following the same structure format like other canister sets, they follow their own formats like the Barraki, this is why 2007 was one of my favorite years of Bionicle G1.

This might be a little weird, but one of my fondest memories growing up was taking a bath and firing the cordac blaster underwater. It just felt right for them to be used like that, like I was replicating a scene from the animated commercial, and the water pressure made firing the missiles a little more consistent.

The Toa Mahri were the first and only time I got the 6 sets of any group, it was also during that era that I discovered the website and online minigames. I really like these sets a lot.

I remember this line, I had Matoro and Nuparu at the time. Hell Matoro was my first Toa of the Mahri line. I think Nuparu’s mask still lays somewhere in one of my boxes. Also I loved the cordak blasters, they were strapped and ready for war I swear

It must have been 8 or 9 years ago when i received Matoro and Hahli in used condition as a gift from a relative from abroad, and putting the sets together as a kid, i had absolutely no idea about the infamy of the lime joints within the Bionicle community...much to my luck, none of them broke when i was building Hahli, but ever since i found out about the lime joints thing a few years ago, i've been feeling absolute anxiety and dread regarding taking any of those pieces temporarily off, so nowdays my Hahli just stays on a shelf collecting dust like she's some kind of fragile porcelain lol
Anyway, great review as always and happy New Year mate!

I spent at least $60 going online and buying Keeleraks just for the various lime pieces. It's absolutely worth it, but even then the pieces aren't guaranteed to stay strong.

Felt like months but finally another part , Matoro was the only one I had and I’m not complaining he was cool , I wanted the blue one cause it had wings and the red one cause he looked cool as well but with Matoro he’s the real hero of the Toa Mahri

I remember being 3 years old and seeing the toa mahri canisters in the shop and I'd never seen anything so cool, every time I went to that shop I'd beg my mum to get me a bionicle... a year passed and I started the toa mistika/phantoka canisters and I'd bed my my mum again to get me a bionicle but every time she either said I was too young or we couldn't afford. And then finally when I was 5 years old in 2009, I got my first bionicle which was Kina from Glatotian Legends. I remember before I ever got a bionicle my mum used to tell me to build them, all u have to do is shake the canister... I think she had then confused for something else? 😅

7:49 i am confused why you didn't simply look up the correct term for their cordak blasters. i really appreciate this series and you for making such a well-shot and in depth look at these sets, so it is a little frustrating for me to see that you didn't take the ten seconds necessary to research a term. thanks again for making these videos, this is a really minor pet peeve of mine but i felt compelled to mention it.
edit: ah dang if only i had watched the whole video through lol. i'll leave this comment up so others can learn from my folly. thanks one more time for a series that i now have nothing to complain about :)

To avoid the sockets cracking, take a hair blower and heat the parts up. it makes them a tiny bit more flexible. I recommend heating even assembled figures before moving their limbs, since plastic fuses and can crack even if it has just been sitting with 0 play.

My brother had hahli, i had the other minus nuparu, i really liked the designs on all of them, i cant remember if my brother's had the joint issue, but I remember my Ehlek did, his joints cracked quickly and since I was a dumb child i took him apart to use his weapons for other. Shame they never seemed to hold on the red pins correctly. I personally never kept the weapons loaded, bht they still looked cool, much better than the weapons the barraki had!
