Hey Kian, so happy I found your channel, it’s great to get some unique insights into the life of a product sourcing agent, especially one that is a native English speaker. This interview was great and Nathan seems like a top bloke. It’s very nice to see people who are good people become successful with hard work and just being generally friendly and I think you both fit that description. Your channel has been invaluable in my journey so far and I am slowly catching up on all your content by watching one video per day. I noticed in one of your videos you mentioned you don’t typically pay your suppliers through Alibaba and I wondered what the safest method of payment is that you use to pay suppliers in China and Pakistan, particularly Pakistan as you can’t pay them through trade assurance. Do you draw up any kind of contract beforehand also and are you covered by law if anything goes wrong? I asked my bank if I paid them by bank transfer and the goods turned up faulty would I be refunded, and they said no because that would be a civil matter and I would have to go through international debt collectors. I would love to hear your thoughts on how you suggest to best protect myself. Apologies in advance if you have covered this in another video, I am slowly catching up. Cheers
Thanks so much for the kind words, means a lot! Regarding the payment, if it's a new supplier I would do it through alibaba trade assurance just so you have that protection on your first order to make sure everything goes smooth. Once you're happy that the first order went well then you can transition into doing a bank transfer. You can also ask for a 1% discount on your cost of goods if you pay them directly rather than via alibaba as I'm sure the supplier will avoid some fees of the alibaba platform as a result of you paying directly now. Thanks for the reply Kian, is there any safe way of protecting yourself through a third party app or a certain way of banking to ensure you are covered if the product turns up damaged? I am going to the Canton Fair this year also so I will be using some suppliers I have not used before so I would like the extra protection or is it just a case of order a small order at first and hope for the best? @@ferociousfightwear I always get a pre-shipment inspection done by a 3rd party before paying the final balance and shipping the goods so I know they are fine and all produced.
