In this video:
As far as the value of the raw materials in them, this varies from Olympiad to Olympiad. For the recent 2012 Olympics in London, the medals were the largest of any in Summer Olympic history up to that point, weighing in at 400g for the gold medal. Of this 400g, 394g was sterling silver (364.45g silver / 29.55g copper) with 6g of 24 karat gold plating. At the price of gold and silver when these medals were won by various Olympians, this means a gold medal in the London Olympics was worth about $624, with $304 of the value coming from the gold plating and about $320 coming from the sterling silver. Since then, the price of gold has dropped about 18% and the price of silver has dropped about 39%.

The Olympic scamming with fake medals ..
🥇
Fun fact: your twin did an awesome job in this video
WOW WOW I HAVE LEARN SOMETHING TODAY THANK 🥇
Usain bolt can auction off his medal and most likely get millions.
It’s the person behind the medal, not the medal.
Fact more than a million
The event matters too; no doubt a gold medal for track's 100 meters would be worth a lot more than one for white water canoeing.
Yea true.. his world record 100m gold medal would sell for more than a million
How bout Michael phelps.Think about it
@@tom_john877 it’s obvious that like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Simone biles medals would go for millions as well. They are all the GOAT in their sport.
The monetary value shouldn’t matter when it comes to these medals. They represent an accomplishment that A few have achieved. If you won a medal in the Olimpic games that means you are literally one of the best in the world at that event. For that alone these medals are priceless
Thank you captain obvious
priceless. thats the right word
So true, buyers should look that way . In auction I will go for the higher price and I will never gonna get that hard work earn medal . I will give it as part of charity work and being proud on the owner medal on what she he achieve. I will give the money to him to help him for any certain reason for the money she hevwill to intended to use
To bad Chinese athletes have to sell their just to eat once the state no longer finds them "useful"
I’m pretty sure we all get that… lol. It’s just a silly question that’s fun to answer.
$5 for bronze? Oof
lol wth
that's a huge slap in the face!!!! lol
imagine being handed a 5 dollar bill instead of the medal lol
Well it is third.
Yeah. Awful big gap there guys! 🤔🏅
An Olympic champion having to auction his gold medal to pay for medical treatment? That sounds wrong. Then again, no one should go through dire straits because of health problems, regardless of their social status...
The Philippines 1988 silver medalist was awarded a lifetime pension amounting to $2,000.00 per month to cover his medical treatment.
My god seeing Simon without a beard is very odd

Superstar of the 1972 Olympics, Soviet Olga Korbut sold two of her medals this winter.for 333,500$. She revolutionized the sport of gymnastics from ballet with simple liips to complex routines & acrobatics taking the forefront.
Plus she has spent a great deal of her c time trying to get health care for Chenobyl victims. Very cool woman.
Should've at least mentioned the fact that the winners get like 25 thousand dollars in prize money, for all the ppl that don't know that.
The Olympic association doesn't give out prize money. Just most countries which give out more than that.
It’s the countries, and also being the 1st/2nd/3rd woman/man in the world at something is good enough tbh
THEY SHOULD GET PAID MORE THAN $25,000 DOLLARS.
Some countries pay almost a million dollars @@kirkcherry1076
Priceless to those who've earned them.
The sentimental value alone would price these medals at thousands of dollars.
wtf? a gold medal is mostly silver?
what a ripoff.
Look, I gotta get it authenticated, then I gotta put it in a nice display box. Then it might sit on my display for a year or more. See, I have a fancy store but people don't come into my shop asking for Olympic medals most days. I'll give you $150
Nah I can't do that, could you at least come up to 250?

The real value of the medals is in the product endorsements, speaking fees, promotional contracts and the like.
Depends on how important an olypic title is in your sport

An olympic gold is 600,000$, free airplane ride, a condominium, a house and lot, a car. Here in the Philippines.
Kunti lang yan boss sa pinas, sa ibang bansa, million2x din natatanggap, kapag nakaka gold medal ang atleta nila
$5 medals lol
Xd
The real worth of an Olympic Medal is sweat, hard work, determination and focus.🤫😉
agreed
That's called "cost" ,not "worth"
In my opinion it is impossible to estimate worth of olympic gold medal, it is not just material.
So you don't really get a gold metal, you get a "gold plated" metal! What a freaking ripoff!
knew it all along a gold medal is not made of gold
GodGunsGutsandNRA But at today's prices, a 400 gram medal made of pure gold would run between $16.000 and $17.000 for materials alone. In 2016, there were 306 total medal sets. That would cost $5.000.000 average, just for the gold medals.
GodGunsGutsandNRA it is not for selling it is for fame
I mean, what's the point of reaching the apex of performance and representing your country on the world stage. Becoming the best of the best and excelling, physically and mentally, to the celebration of millions of people across the globe if you don't even get a solid gold shiny thing at the end? Smh
@@chipmo You are stupid.
It’s priceless to the person that won it and took part in there event and the Olympics ………
$5 for Bronze? you kiddin me??
YOU BASTARDS!!!
Imagine being the 3rd best in the world at your sport and being given a medal worth pocket change
This old Russian dude I used to work with sold his dad's Soviet WW2 medals for a couple thousand dollars in the early 90s. I know he had a "Defense of Stalingrad" and an "Order of the Patriotic War" medal along with a few minor ones. I think he said he got about $3500 or so for them, which helped him get on his feet in the US after moving here after the USSR was betrayed.
This could be a good topic to revisit periodically with updated prices.
that figure for how much it would cost to make all gold medals solid gold is still a drop in the bucket compared to the sheer cost and spending of each of the more recent Olympics, Brazil was reported to have spent as much as 30 billion dollars on the summer Olympics, making the cost of possible "solid" gold medals about 0.06% of the total cost of the Olympics.
what about nobel medals. woulda made a good bonus fact
I only came here to see the beardless blaze boi

Its amazing how your body has learned to grow hair since these videos
Wow, in this old video I could follow almost everything Simon said without looking at the subtitles!
Before God knows how much cocaine turned Simon into the content creating legend he is today...allegedly
According to what I have read earlier, the only time solid gold medals were ever given out in the Olympics where in 1912.
Though, I might be wrong about that though.
Correct!
I want the Simon with hair on his head!!!! 😂✌🐩
This is not about the Price of the Medal, but the honor and pride you bring for your country.
Dammit! 5dollar of bronze?
Wow- 3rd best in your sport in the entire world! Amazing achievement! Here's a five dollar medal.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👌
Good job SW, always like your stuff
Guys medals might not be worth like million dollars. But it's more of an symbolic thing and proves that you earned this title by something physical. They give money alongside the medals too. And you'll get money from your country every month, so if you have olympic medal then you're basically set for rest of your life.
just imagine if Phelps sold his last gold...
What I think is stupid is that these athletes are representing their Country, and they have to pay taxes on what the medal is worth. To me that is just wrong. I understand completely them paying taxes on their winnings, but come on the medals! The Country gets the bragging rights to the Medals. Just my opinion.
What?! Olympic gold athletes don't even get a solid piece of gold for their world beating efforts?
Shame on them.
IMO they are priceless.
Even though the price of gold medal is Half a milion dollar or just a cent i wouldn't sell it to anyone its a remembrance that will pass through generation.

@@abhavupneja8160 well money feeds families especially if you are from a poor country like Nepal.
You don't understand because you must be from rich countries like America whose main purpose of taking part in the Olympics is for the limelight and attention.
Anyway, the Olympic games need to be ban. This event is only for the rich country. Poor-country like Nepal will never be able to train athletes from a young. We can see so much disparity in the medal tally. The rich country dominating each and every game while the poor country is there just to make up a number.
Namaste from Nepal where Lord Buddha was born.
@@MrNepalChhanel The athletes are also given money by the way.
Much of that is given by the governments as award.
I am not sure , some amount is also given by IOC.

Question:
Is it really safe to jump of a moving automobile like they do in Hollywood movies when it's almost about to crash/explode or when an evil villain tosses someone out, except in real life it may be out of necessity in an emergency situation like when one's brake pedal completely malfunctions & the car is about to shoot off a cliff? And if so, is there a certain speed limit under which chances of survival is guaranteed? And also what is the safest way to do it, like sideways, facing forward/backward or brace in a fetal position? Tks & great job as always, TIFO!
Ma boy sound like he in Flight attendant mode.....
They should call gold plated medal and not gold medal!
Imagine training your whole life for. 600$ medal
lol when you win an olympic gold medal in the philippines they will pay 200k US Dollars last 2016 Rio

There's 800 gold medals?! That's alot
But then again, I'm thinking 800 gold medals = 800 different sports? Which isn't right lol.. LIke the basketball team would all get a gold medal right? yeaaaa and that's like how many people on one team? like 100 right there lol
Also different sports have subdivisions, with more medals
bigkitkat
You mean like gymnastics? Where they have different stuff... and stuff? lol you can tell I'm a big fan of the olympics
+Candi Soda by subdivisions I mean stuff like this
Men's 100m dash
Women's 100m dash
Men's 400m
Womens steeplechase
Stuff like that
+bigkitkat those are all under track and field
bigkitkat
Oh, what are the gymnastics called? Because I keep hearing how Simone "just won a gold/medal" And that's been going on for a few days now.
I knew it was plated, they aint stupid to make it full on gold
They just crooked,not stupid.
you meant....how much the medal cost of manufacturing....
Singapore pays the gold medal winner S$1 million= US$732 thousand ..
Hong Kong pays the gold medal winner US$640 thousand
So gold medals are mixture of silver and gold, wow. I thought gold means gold and no bullshit...this is not fair tbh lol
He looks like doctor Johnny sins at the beginning
So i can get my own bronze medal made for 5€
No you have to earn it.
Today I found out " Today I found out"
At least the "bronze" is real.
The true value comes from the event and the athlete who performed in winning the medal. Hence a Phelps or Bolt medal being of same material but higher overall value to market
Like they say, the end of the journey ain't the best but the journey itself
The real value of a medal reflect the athletics contribution in achieving one of those medals
The value of bronze in dollars worth is nothing for a reason because winners take it all silver next for nearest opponent
It depends on the person Usain Bolts is worth more than others.
if you are just talking about the medal content, the same as any other coin.
usain bolts 100m world record gold medal would sell for at least $1M
Well technically that’s not an Olympic medal it’s a world championship medal but it would definitely set a record if sold.
Kurt angle 1996
Depends who's it is....A carl lewis medal would be worth more than the 50 metre air pistol gold
Olympic gold-Eternal Glory.
Oh! I thought everything is pure Gold or at least Gold is more than any metal in those medals. Thanks for the info.
The value of the medal is in who won them.
Jordan's dream team medal would near million.
He sounds like google translate
I thought I was watching Simon from what culture
Can u melt off the gold plating from these medals? I am just curious.
I think the IOC can afford to make the medals out of whatever medal they claim to be. Considering how much a host country invests into their infrastructure that only seems to last during the games. When the games are over the structures go into disrepair and fall apart. What a waste of time and money. Also considering that the planet has 8+ billion people on it and only a very small few make it to the Olympics, those athletes deserve it.
kudos for using the metric system. The internet is the world, not usa.
