So actually I found it interesting that they didnt use 100% bronze since its WAY cheaper than silver to use. Also I do agree that I'll never look at gold and bronze medals the same ever again!
I think it might be because bronze (in a similar way to gold) can be dented up easily. Over time, if bronze medals were entirely bronze, the medal might get scratched or marked more easily than if it were what the alloy currently is. This is likely a similar line of thinking with the gold medals, except cost is likely much more of a factor when producing them. Hope this explanation makes sense. ❤
1:52 Thousands of olympic medals do not need to be made for each olympic event. There might be a few cases were multiple gold, silver, or bronze medals are needed for one even due to a tie, but that is uncommon. There are 329 medal events in the 2024 summer olympics, so it is reasonable that more than 329 medals of each kind must be made. Also, certain medaling events necessitate large team sizes due to the number of players needed for such spot. This will also greatly increase the minimum medal production of each kind to way over 329.
The Gold medals should really be made of solid 100% gold. It seems extremely cheap to award such an incredible accomplishment with only 5% composition of what it's namesake is.
True, but in the case of gold it’s too soft to metals or coins so in order to straighten it and make it stronger, they mix in some little bit of silver and copper copper will make it stronger. Silver will give it it’s shine
This video got a few things wrong, like: cost of bronze not $220 more like $20 (metal value, priceless to the athletes of course) and silver is not 100% its 92.5% plus other metals as hardeners. Also the amount of gold in the gold medals is 6g plus silver for rest.
The 1st place winner should at least be rewarded with a 14K gold medal. It's diminishes the prestige of the gold medal after knowing that only 5 to 8% gold metal. 😑👎
Not just US and UK. All Olympic organizations are run by the International Olympic Committee. They call the shots, make the rules and decide to enforce or turn a blind eye to prevent scandles.
Athletes are biting them like they are soft real gold ... I love that they are from recycled materials but wish they were solid gold .. I think champions are worth it ... Maybe shrink them a little a use real gold right through ....
3:18 only 25k to make an actual gold medal for lets say 100 events so around 2.5 million spends of medals for the athletes to keeps forever are worth it they are just being cheap
all this process seem to be very expensive and produce a lot of toxic waste, isn't it cheaper to just give them gold cast in a deck with the olympic logo on it, less is more
It's chocolate on the inside 😋
I guess that's why everyone is test biting it yea 🤣

The Silver Medal is 100% Silver!??...Wow!...I'll never look at the Gold and Bronze Medals in the same light ever again!
Gold is still worth more you are onto nothing
@@edvardivo293not real gold😂made from broken phone and laptop parts lol
Bro golds an element if it's made from laptop parts it's still the exact same gold that comes from the ground
The Gold Medal is made of 95% silver, and then 5% bronze, so it’s still worth more than the Silver Medal
.
Good information 😊😊😊
The older Olympic medal was solid metals like gold with non fillers inside it!😂
there was also way less people competing
In like 1912… lol
that was more than 100 years ago

@@theshinyskuntank5955 They could simply make the outside of gold & bronze medals with a stronger alloys and make the inside actually 100% solid.
No point in doing so ofc plating it is better@@ponraul1221
bronze in an alloy of metals . it doesnt exist in nature . its mainly copper
I like the old format. This is just a voice over

Copper and zinc don’t make bronze, it makes brass, Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin..
excellent

There will be design competitions for the medal design

Bronze is not copper and zinc, tin (stannum) would be used. A zinc-copper aloy would be brass in some form.

I miss the show on discovery channel titled "How it's made". ❤
I wonder what software they use to design the medals?
LA medal: Hollywood
The LA medals will probably have a picture of looters on it.🙄
Reminder: 100% pure gold is soft and malleable, so a 100% gold medal would NOT survive.
Just make the outside a stronger gold alloy and the inside 100% gold. Silver dents somewhat easy too, and that seems to be fine

This years PARIS GOLD MEDALS made from silver and painted with Gold paint 100% gold paint so that makes the Silver medal GOLD 😂
So ? I want the silver version then ! Sins bronce is the less worth of them !
Who is the person between the Olympic medal
I read where the gold plate was coming off some of the medals. So sad.

Should be a much higher percentage of gold. Under $1000 in value is ridiculous for the achievement of winning a gold medal.
Come on man, you got it all wrong. How is the bronze medal cost $220? Not even close.
When it comes to US and UK the olymp medals are made of drugs enhancing, dope cheats and national covering up 😅

Russia - Olympics most drug
China - Olympics most cheater

the gold medal made of pure silver and plated with gold...so its worth it😂
Silver is not pure Silver either. It's Silver 925. Meaning 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals.
should change the names to 'copper medal, silver medal and gold plated silver medal'
😂🤣

agreed this is highest honor and the gold should be solid gold!! period
Its weird to think people believe the gold medal is pure gold lol. Aside from the cost, gold is very soft. Gold plating makes far more sense
