This is such an important video! When I started do my natural hair, all my twist outs were terrible because I didn't have the right twisting technique for my hair. Most natural hair RUclipsrs don't focus on this topic and I'm glad you put in the effort to make this. This will help so many people!
PhanShipperWithFro Me too. I used to wonder why all my twist outs were bad and theirs always looked great. I just gave up in the end and decided that my hair wasn't capable of that 😂. It was only two months ago (after 4 years of trying and failing at twist outs) that I did it correctly by accident and realised what I was doing wrong. I wasn't doing it the incorrect way she demonstrated. I was twisting the hair and also rolling each strand in opposite directions simultaneously 😂😂😂😂😂. It seems simple but when you're new you just don't know
Exactly! I used t watch multiple twist out videos that never actually showed how to twist. They would show the products and then go, "Now you just start the twist." Not going into detail of how to actually twist hair. My mom never twisted our hair. Just platts and braids so I never had experience twisting before. I don't even know how I got it. I was just playing around one day and figured it out. lol
Thank you for this video bc im a single father and i hv a 7yr old beautiful baby girl and i do her hair but the only thing ikn how to do is plats but today i will be doing twist bc it's something different and it looks nice. Her hair is full and thick like yours, she literally has a head full of hair just like you do so i hv my hands full! Thanks again for the video pretty lady!
THANK YOU! Not too long ago I got placed with two African American daughters and I’m determined to help them to get all the heat/chemical damage out of their hair. I used this method last night on them with some products and today it looks stunning! ❤️ God bless!
the breakdown: separate two strands of hair; as you twist the strands around each other clockwise, twist each strand counterclockwise. took me years to figure out thats what people are doing when they twist. its such a subtle technique that most people dont notice. its like a looser version of a rope twist
Khala Harvey am going to church tomorrow and Jayden and autumn in the dude who is this and what is the address of the house and the dude who is this and what is the cost of the house and the mic on the game is at tha I have been trying to reach you but I'm looking for a place to live

Tfs it may seem like common sense to many but honestly it's nerve wrecking for those who are new and have no idea why they cannot achieve that "bomb" TwistOut/define curl/curl definition! & even a few who have been on their NHJ for sometime now might still be struggling. Very simple, to the point thank you again 😍😍
Thank you I've only been natural for 9months😂 and mostly do Bantu ( if that's how yuh spell it ) nots or just braid my hair. I found this hair style online and have watched 6 RUclips videos and still cannot get this🤦🏾♀️
Wow! This just opened my eyes to how I twist. I've been twisting hair since I was in preschool, but I never paid attention to how I was twisting. I totally see the difference between twisting "from the bottom" vs twisting from the root. Thanks for digging into something that seems so simple at the surface.
Thank you so much!! I'm a preschool teacher and will use this knowledge all the time. Parents always send their kids to me with the cutest hair. By the end of the day you can tell they have played hard! I'm so thankful that I can now do a twist to send some of my girls home with ❤
Yes, girlfriend...for years I was doing my wrong and couldn't understand that I was actually twisting big time wrong. But, I've been redeemed and finally learned to twist correctly...Great idea for the basic technique for natural hair...
the perfect twist out, whether it's a 2-strand or 3-strand twist out, takes time and effort to achieve AMAZING results. So glad to see a well-done twist out. I get my inspiration from videos like this and can finally say I've mastered the perfect twist out for my own 4-c, low porosity, thick hair. I make my own DIY products as well to achieve the perfect balance between nourishment and optimum hold for my hair. I've documented my own version of the perfect twist-out on my RUclips channel and am glad to see others achieve beautiful results as well!
this simple video was sooooooo damn helpful. i have been wearing my natural texture for the past 16 years and going strong. the past 6 to 7 years i have truly learned a lot more of the proper hair care. i really learned something major from this. thank you so much. never knew i have been twisting wrong this whole time. wow! going to always twist like this now. hopefully i will have decent twist outs now. thanks again. love what you do. keep it up.

I want to try this with braiding hair! You're a gem and I def see the difference between my wrong way and your right way!
Zoe lol I mean well every little black girl most likely had their hair in twist at one point so... When I went natural thats how I knew how to do twists, from my mama doing my hair as a little girl.
I didn't know how to make twists look like that either. Mine, though not as messy, looked like the second one. I haven't been natural since maybe 4th grade and been relaxed since. And even then my mom always did my hair so I never learned. :/
I’m adding a comment mainly so there isn’t triple 6. But I really struggled with twists for the first 7 years of being natural. I didn’t know how to twist or braid. So I wore puffs or wash and gos only. I finally figured out flat twisting and by default learned how to twist properly. Absolutely vital to know how to either twist or braid if you’re natural.
ThinkFirstable For real, at first I was like ain't that just a tight twist vs a loose twist style?????? It depends on your mood and preference!!!!! My goodness, the natural hair movement has hit rock bottom now. There isn't a right way or wrong way. It just depends on how you texture can stay put in a certain style! Ppl need to take a hard look in the mirror and see what truly works for them! Smh
ButtaUsagi There isn't a right or wrong way but I think this is for people who are newly natural/still getting to know their hair and want their twist outs to look exactly how it looks when it is demonstrated by popular hair vloggers. She is just demonstrating how to achieve that look. Im sure along the course of people's hair journey they will realise whether or not they prefer loose or tight twists. However most popular twist out tutorials feature tight twists and when you are learning you're more likely to gravitate towards the most popular content and try to imitate it. So I doubt whether this video was made as a personal criticism for people who prefer loose twists versus a help guide for people who are learning and just going for a "particular look".
ButtaUsagi Also there are those like me who prefer that tight twists look too. And its fine if you prefer it loose. But I was grateful for this video because I really never understood for a very long time how to achieve that and I kept using the incorrect method to achieve a desired outcome.
Thanks for the tutorial. The "wrong"/"really bad" twist is also called loose twists and an actual thing. I do that style a lot. But of course, it serves a different purpose. One question I find some people asking is which side goes over first as you start to twist, is it clockwise or anticlockwise (right or left etc) if you get what I mean. Thanks again for taking out the time to do these videos. Igbo kwenu! lol
Hi Oge! Thank you. I know loose twists and as a matter of fact I do them too but I specifically wrote how to twist correctly for Twist-outs because loose twists don't give definition. Also, to answer your question, it depends on the person. People who are right-handed twist from right to left most times and vice versa so it doesn't quite matter as long as your twists are firm.
So...you mean I have been doing it wrong all this time.😂 I will not even disclose how long I have been natural. I am so embarrassed right now. Thanks for helping sister out.
I'm using this technique to put my boyfriend's hair in twin twisties with the intention of having waves after it dries. I was getting so frustrated trying to do it for 30 min. After watching this video, I did it within 30 seconds. Thank you so much! You are so lucky to have such beautiful hair. It makes me really happy to see people embrace their natural hair. Your hair is incredible, and i am baffled why it is so common for women to go to great lengths to change it. I have stick straight silky hair :( I would lovvveee to have hair like yours, although it might look kinda funny on my white head lol
Omfg this is literally what I needed I've been watching tutorials forever but everyone SKIPS THIS. I CANT DO YOUR TUTORIAL WITHOUT KNOWING THIS. THANK YOU
Thank you for your video! Getting ready to do microlocs with two strand twists myself and wanted to make sure I have the perfect twists. Didn’t realize I’ve been doing it all wrong😅
Thank you! This is extremely helpful. I’ve been trying and failing because apparently I was doing the wrong way. My results looked like the loose thin ones in your fail example. This is a very helpful video.
Just a suggestion. If you measure the pieces before you start to twist, you won't have to borrow from the longer side. That will help to prevent tangling when undoing the twists. If you plan on doing a twist out and don't want to separate, borrowing from the other side will not produce an even result.
Wow thank you for this video. I 💜💜💜💜 ur hair. Me too got 4C and am gonna try this with my short hair I didn't know this but now I know.I 💜 Ur explanation.God bless.
And here I am thinking I still had relaxed ends in my hair or one side of my head of hair was just not turning out good... wow you would think people would know this but I am here to say I've been doing the wrong twist for my first year of going natural... well you live and you learn! Thank you :)
First off your crown (your hair) is gorgeous!!😍😍😍 second thank you for making this video I had the problem of wondering why all of my twist didn't look the same throughout my hair. I'm going to try and tighten them better as I twist. Thank you! ☺️☺️

What lipstick are you wearing?
Idk what the exact lipstick is, but a similar shade to it is chateau by colourpop
Saulsberry S. yup it is colour pop but its LAX (she mentioned in another comment)
Love your hair, love your accent, love your beautiful character. Thanks for your help!
Hair goals😍.Love the lipstick btw & thanks for the tip.
Oh,the accent is on point too.Ok,I'm out🚶
Omfg this is literally what I needed I've been watching tutorials forever but everyone SKIPS THIS. I CANT DO YOUR TUTORIAL WITHOUT KNOWING THIS. THANK YOU
A great and easy to follow tutorial! Thank you so much!
Wow your hair is damn beautiful, this is my 3yrs in this natural hair journey and I intend to keeping it forever. Thanks for this video.
u have beautiful hair, thick n lovely. it takes twists really well
Thank you for your video! Getting ready to do microlocs with two strand twists myself and wanted to make sure I have the perfect twists. Didn’t realize I’ve been doing it all wrong😅
Yall i have been twisting incorrectly the entire time, i just thought my hair wouldn’t hold that style well. Now i know
Thank you! This is extremely helpful. I’ve been trying and failing because apparently I was doing the wrong way. My results looked like the loose thin ones in your fail example. This is a very helpful video.
Literally thinking how the heck can you twist the wrong way? ....Ohhhhh, ok yea I've been doing it wrong this whole time. 🙄😅
Oh my word! I've been doing twists for ages but they were never quite right. Tried your method and they came out so pretty and neat! Thank you :D
Just a suggestion. If you measure the pieces before you start to twist, you won't have to borrow from the longer side. That will help to prevent tangling when undoing the twists. If you plan on doing a twist out and don't want to separate, borrowing from the other side will not produce an even result.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I am following your instructions right now. Its already turning out great and I am a MAN!!
So helpful. I have been doing it all wrong. Thank you!

I am grateful for this video! My twist outs and protective styles are on point these days!
First off your crown (your hair) is gorgeous!!😍😍😍 second thank you for making this video I had the problem of wondering why all of my twist didn't look the same throughout my hair. I'm going to try and tighten them better as I twist. Thank you! ☺️☺️
This is such a great video. It hurts my heart to see so many dislikes on it. I am a white girl just trying to get educated and came across your video. Thank you for making this, I learned a lot.
Your hair is GORGEOUS! I wish I had 4c instead of 3c
People with 4c hair would be saying the opposite 😂
+Kyla Browne lol ye
😂😂
Yeah 4c hair is beautiful! But love your 3c curls girl!
I know how you feel... 4c hair has so much texture and body!! But 3c hair is beautiful too!
Thanks for this tutorial. I guess I will have to change my twisting method. :)
Your hair is amazing and I’m glad you took time to teach us how to twits sis 😍😍
