People have no idea what this man meant to "prime Mike Tyson". Trust me...when you kids go back and listen to what a beast Tyson was and how he was chin-checking everyone who came near him? It's all true. And THIS is the man who was behind it all. THIS is the man who Cus gave the reigns to on his death bed. Kevin Rooney the most underrated trainer in the history of boxing.

Tyson was with Rooney from the beginning before Tyson turned into this absolute savage that he would Go on to be. Tyson trusted Rooney, he had a connection with Rooney. He LISTENED to Rooney, and didn't wanna let him down. Mike needed guidance. He needed a leader. He was as an immature person as there is, and we never knew that till he was the undisputed champ and was filthy rich, and could make his own decisions. And those decisions were heavily impacted by those fucking leeches he was surrounded with. Rooney cared about Mike before the fame and success! Had Tyson never got away from Rooney his career wouldve looked a lot different. We already consider him a top 10 great and he literally gave his full potential for 4 years. Im not saying he wouldve been 60-0. But he would've held those titles for alot longer. But in his prime, my God he was special. The best speed to power ratio that's ever been. Combine that with his hea movement and ring mobility and we seen the best boxing specimen that was ever created. Hands down! In my honest opinion, I think he destroys Ali. I think foreman would be a guy i think Tyson would have trouble with.

Listen man he trained me to fight in the early 90s he knows his stuff and how to teach Cus's Style of boxing however that boxing style works well for certain people of fighters should I say I would not teach it tk a tall fighter for eg AJ you have to be dedicated live it like anything else drillers make killers MT was Both with incredible speed and great confidence. Kev Was THE BEST for MT is he the coach of all time No.
Aswell I'm based in the UK now and teach what Kev taught me but in the UK they are very ignorant to other boxing styles there way or the high way attitude have a very talented 9 year old student 4 stone trained him Cus's style privately I took him to spar for the 1st time he stopped a kid 13 years old 3 stone heavier with more experience twice in one 3 minute round. Need I say more. The look on their faces lol but hes small for his age he's now 11 n still small but I've drilled him well let's see where that goes n he's a white kid too not that makes any difference but I'd train any kid this style thd UK kids are not taught head movement not taught about switch hitting not taught to punch with bad intentions not taught angles n to set traps I truly believe this is why ALL British fighter's do we domestically but when yhe bar Is raised in level they don't do so well Hatton - May weather Alverez v Billy Joe I could go on forever but its facts it's a there don't hate me for spitting factual Bars man .... I wany to upload this sparring footage I have but their kids man I just feel.its inappropriate.

@@stevens5541 Well that's kind of like asking why do fans take their sports teams so seriously, even seemingly more so those who actually get PAID to work for them. That despite when it's (unless you bet money, and/or personally know somebody who plays them) technically just a game which is strictly for entertainment purposes, that should have no actual real impact on your life, whether they win or lose? Only possible exception to this would be if the team maybe represents your school, and/or country, but even then is still the case in the end though. Fans in reality (as much as they want to believe, but surely wouldn't want to hear this) have absolutely literally NOTHING to do with their team's success when they come out on top, even if they act like they somehow actually won something along with them when they technically didn't!
But with that being said, fans do it because they understandably (whether it's truly rational or not) love their teams with such a strong passion, with the players being their idols who they worship like they're some kind of family members and/or supernatural gods of sorts. They want to see them do well, and succeed as much as possible, and will happily shell out their hard earned money in order to possibly see that happen in person if they can, along with buying apparel which represents the team, and/or players, and what not. Same was the case with the hardcore Tyson fanatics who wanted him to keep the wins they were so used to him pretty much getting at will during the peak of his boxing career coming. That along with hating what happened to both that, and his livelihood, with how far down he began to fall when those days came to a sudden, unexpected end as time went on, while feeling sorry for him (whether his downfall was really mostly his fault or not) also.

Rooney had a terrible problem with drinking and gambling.

People are gonna cry over thatcomment, but no genuine boxing fan can look at that Douglas fight and see anything close to the same fighter as even two years previous. Say he wins that fight, he likely gets Holyfield earlier and Lewis earlier, maybe he doesn't go to prison and never really get it back. I don't know if you're an athlete. But if you are, you know how terrible it is to lose that many years in your athletic prime. As far as it goes in a different pro sport, if you take that time off you'll never be the same and probably should never fight again.

I'd buy 5 sets and I was a professional Heavyweight for 52 fights. That's how much he meant to me as both a trainer/coach and a man equally. It really breaks my heart that most young boxing and/or mma fans don't even know who this man is. A man who kept Mike Tyson on track to possibly (I'd even argue likely) become the greatest fighter of all-time, after Cus passed. Rooney is a legendary and rather large and important part of boxing history. It is a human tragedy that nearly all combat sports fans will never know his story. It's a shame.
    Edit: changed "win" to "will"

He is also one of the very few retainers and teachers of the peekaboo style, at least in it's direct D'Amato form. Kevin carries on Cus' legacy and any future fighter should seek his wisdom before he retires.

Of course I don’t have all the details, but from what I’ve seen, when Tyson lost his foundation-Cus passing (an uncontrollable factor), then later on Rooney being fired (controllable), he forfeited the recipe for his distinctive success. It’s been said a million times already, but I believe that Rooney represented an extension of Cus, being that Cus trusted him to train Tyson. Then ironically Kevin physically morphs into a Cus-like figure. Gotta fight to keep the foundation that gets you to the top of the mountain. Just my opinion, but I wasn’t there when everything went down so...🤷🏾‍♂️ I could definitely be wrong.

    • @damatoslegacy9075
      @damatoslegacy9075 5 лет назад +2

You're not wrong. Along with Jacobs and Cayton, Cus entrusted Kevin to carry out his mission to make Mike a champion. From beyond the grave Mike was fulfilling Cus' legacy and IMO was his sole motivator before and after he had passed on. Mike stated on several occasions on how lonely roadwork would get, so he'd think of Cus and everything he'd shared with him, which kept him going. The greatest match up in sports history 👌🏼

You most definitely are not wrong brother. Great minds think alike, true story! There's a reason why the stars aligned the way they did. There's a reason why the alignment was destroyed. It was a lesson in greed. Get too greedy and believe your "own' hype and you'll be derailed in the most spectacular fashion, and that's what happened.
This was a lesson for my generation. Some heeded the lesson and achieved greatness, some followed the same path of Tyson.
Case in point was Naseem Hamed. Derailed as soon as ........ I'm not filing in the blank for you, go look it up. There are other cases but Hamed is a classic.....
Mike could've been the greatest. But you need a great team behind you!!

Rooney is the best trainer ever after Cus..
But M.Tyson is a stupid and spoiled man... He destroyed his own career... and secondly, because of the way he treated Kevin Rooney and his old team at the end, he is just human garbage and waste, not worth mentioning... Lennox Lewis and other boxers like Hollyfield brought him down to earth... .And if anyone says that Lewis and Holly wouldn't have a chance in 80s to beat Tyson, let me remind you that back then this idiot had no really strong opponents except for one (Frank Bruno) whom he couldn't knock out and had a hard time with..Tyson is just a worthless wasteman...

He is the exact opposite of a media darling like teddy atlas because he is strictly professional and doesn't like to gossip or badmouth his athletes and stir up the pot even if they were wrong at one point. They should do more interviews with men like him. Instead of craving negativity and toxic energy. What is social media smoking 🚬? Must be crack. Because they aren't using common sense.
