Knife Basics - What You Really Need To Know - Blade Types

- Hey there and welcome to my little series of videos on knife basics. Today I'm looking at the various types or shapes of blades. They can be confusing admittedly. I mean, a Sheepsfoot? Does someone really make a knife shaped like a sheep's foot? No, not really; but once you understand where the name comes from it really is rather logical. So come on along, and we'll start to demystify yet another bit of knife lore that you really need to know.

As always, I invite you to like and share. And if you have any questions you'd like me to answer for you, don't hesitate to post them in the comments below.
Note that most of the knives shown in this video are from my personal collection, but if you'd like one similar you're more than welcome to check out our web store at: www.targetswithattitude.com/s... Спорт
I'm 5 seconds into this video and I have high hopes based on your humble demeanor. Excited to watch.
Thank you. I never thought of myself as humble, but I do appreciate hearing it.
Same here
Same
I love how sincere this guy is, hes clearly invested in this hobby :)
I found your channel because im currently designing a knife that im making for my father. Thank you for making this video, i have lot of ideas thanks to you!
Thanks you. I'm glad you found it useful and hope you will find my other videos of help as well.
I love hearing old guys (sorry if that offended you. It was not intentional) talk about anything. And his voice is very soothing. It is a very good video.
Hey, I’m pushing 60. If I’m not ready to called old by some young, wet behind the ear whippersnapper, I’d better give up making videos 😂.
Did I just meet the Bob Ross of Knives and cutlery?! Awesome!!
Don’t think anyone has compared me to Bob Ross before, lol. Thank you.
The modified tanto I've known in shop class as a stop cut knife. Used to end chisel cuts... very useful in woodwork
This was an amazing video show some blades I’ve never heard and explained what the uses were and what jobs was for great vid by far.
Thanks 👍. Glad you found it to be helpful.
Immediate Bob Ross vibes from you sir. I just retired after a long career in the military and contracting for both government and private sector brokerages (KBR security/Gladius International-formerly Leviathan Group) and need a new hobby to keep my sanity. Knives are not exactly foreign to me (I’m no Doug merciada, but Silat was always my favorite tertiary “goodbye bad guy” weapon) but in my newly discovered love of knife making, I’m not too embarrassed to admit when I’m totally ignorant to a concept, but man am I lost! Your demeanor during this knowledge transfer was very much appreciated and calming. I just strangled the sub button you asked me to hit. Or did you not mean “hit” in that way? Damn it… well, you’re stuck with me now 🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼
Learned more about knife blades in 20 minutes than 63years of living. Been carrying a Case trapper for last 20 years . Like Case steel . thank you for informative video.
“ I hate to say stabbing....but yea, stabbing”. I like this guy already. Looking forward to the rest of the video :)
Thank you so much. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video as much as that small comment.
nice video sir, very informative... more power to your channel!
Thank you for this! I’m trying to find a small knife to keep in the small pockets that come on women’s jeans, and this was a good place to start!
You're more than welcome. There's a world of great knives that will fit in women's jeans pockets and knowing what shape of blade would most likely work best for you is a great way of starting to sort through them. My daughter is personally fond of the CIvivi Elementum, but Case also makes quite a few nice, smaller knives. CJRB Small Feldspar might be another one to consider. In any case, I wish you luck and look forwards to seeing you here in my little corner of cyberspace again.
Get yourself a 2-blade serpentine jack, comes with a clip blade and a pen blade and fits right in the small watch pocket on a pair of jeans, it handles 90% of my cutting tasks. I carry mine every day and forget all about it until I need it. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!👍☺
Hands down, this man just became top of my list of peeps I gotta have a beer with
I love your demeanor and easy explanation right away! I subscribed just for that.
Awesome, thank you!
Appreciate your time 👍🏻
Awesome video!!! Great education for newbies!!!

Designing a sword rn this was helpful for choosing the tip type
Thanks for making this video! It was very helpful
You’re more than welcome.
Nice video and love your knives that you showed us thanks.
Glad you like them! Much as I enjoy doing knife reviews, I must admit it's a bit of a rush to get to show off some of the knives in my personal collection.
When I saw you using a quill 🪶 I knew I was in the right place
Well what else would I use? lol
Excellent video man! Great job!
Thank you.
Thanks for the video, would enjoy some more vids dedicated to specific patterns, blades, etc
Thanks for the suggestion. Let me see what I can come up with.
It’s greatly impressive sir, how you care about your family - even while taking this (really helpful) video.
Thank you
Great video. Thanks for the information, invaluable.
You’re welcome my friend.
Your channel is awesome man
Thank you for making this video.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the video ! Wish you all the best
Thank you! You too!
2:10 omg I found that exact knife in my grandpas shed a few months ago, cool
Clip point always been my favourite i had 1 wit flash light n compass on it swear i need a couple Asap ❤
Compass right next to metal, must be super accurate. 😉
Very solid video
Glad you liked it
I like a drop point with a full flat grind for most uses. Straight back knives have stuck me too many times.
I won't lie to you. I've wanted a khukuri since I was about 10 or 11 years old. When I got my first job, I spent about $100 for a khukuri. The shipping was weird having to get it from Nepal, but it is really nice.
Thank u sir
Love from 🇮🇳
So then what’s a Bowie? Thanks for the clarification on the 2 Tanto types? Could you explain some of the newly “fashionable” different clever?? Thanks for the video
I did a video on Bowie here ruclips.net/video/vn6kTEj6qO8/видео.html
That last knife looks similar to the 1917 American Bolo. You can get a recreation from Windlass steel crafts. Same knife carried by the legendary Harlem Hellfighters which was supposedly inspired by Filipino Bolo knives. Im not sure if you are aware of the online shop "Kultofathena" but they have a lot of reproductions of historic knives, axes, bayonets and swords as well as daggers. If you arent familiar with that site I recommend a look, its very popular among the HEMA(Historical European Martial Arts) community.
Another thing you may want to check out is a channel run by a HEMA instructor/antique arms and armor collector and dealer who covers a number of weapons including knives, daggers, swords etc both in how they were used and why they were shaped the way that they were. Channel is "Scholagladiatoria" run by Matt Easton. Im suggesting these btw because you seem to be like me in the sense that you like to analyze the blades, know where they come from and what tasks they were meant to excel at given the culture, environment or specialized tasks that might have been more in demand at certain times.
Always love finding informative channels like yours, subscribed and looking forward to going through your past videos.
Hadn't heard of them before, but I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip.
Hawkbills are also favorites of mushroom foragers!
Hadn’t thought of that, but I can see where the hook shape would be useful.
good !
Good video 👍
Glad you enjoyed
He is a very accurate pointer
Answered alot of questions I had
Thank you my friend, I'm glad I could be of help.
Just found ur video.thanz.for.the info
Oh, did you shoot this video instead of taking a nap? LOL I'm just playing with you brother, thank you for the video. I'm a new knife maker myself and I'm curious about what to call these styles that I'm coming up with. Your video helped me, now order your son something cool
Nap? Sleep? What is this thing of which you speak? I know it not! lol, no in all seriousness, thank you. And don't worry, I got my buddy something from Chik-Fil-A, his favorite restaurant.
god and nice review
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, but you missed the bowie. It would've been excellent to analyse it.
Thank you. Reason I didn’t cover the Bowie in this video is that I did one on just it. If you’d like to check it out, it’s at ruclips.net/video/vn6kTEj6qO8/видео.html
Dagger & Clip Point. Bowie Knives are King 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👍
Can I use the spayed point blade on my son-in-law?😊
I use hock bills \ tallons / what I call them carpet knifes for Castrating cattle you put the nice in hot cools tell it’s red hot clean the Testicles with Iodine the grab knife and pull towards yourself it is the best way to castrate if not useing rubber band witch is how I like to do it but some people like to eat them
Thanks for posting. Good info. My only critique is you should use the word "piercing" instead of "stabbing." Just a thought.
Now you tell me, 😂! No, in all seriousness that is a good point. Thank you.
Less is more pain.
I hit the button you pointed to, but it only turned on closed captioning....
Then I found the sub button and sub'd.
The Knife 🔪 is actually one of the oldest weapons ever used by Humans.
Diction is first and foremost when making a RUclips video. Just sayin'.......
Go feed your son. He's hungry.
