Even in a long drawn out war, if Indian troops decide to strategically retreat and engage in guerilla warfare in places like mountains and jungles - and the Navy cuts off Chinese shipping going through the Indian Ocean (which is most of China's shipping, especially in terms of energy resources); China will not come out as any sort of winner - it'll be an absolute black hole of Chinese money and lives for no tangible gain.
Their military's carefully constructed artificial image will be shattered forever, their growth story will likely be permanently derailed, and other countries in East Asia will up the ante against them even more after that.
