Hello ! Great video, what's the difference between thermostatic and non thermostatic. Which one is better for my WRX 2019 ? Thanks 🙏🏼
One has a thermostat to regulate temps and prevent overcooling.
@@mishimoto ok great! I would go for the thermostatic one. thanks for the response
wow, great installation guide! I wish there were more videos like these for parts I have sitting around waiting to be installed xD.
+Zcypot Thanks - glad you liked the install guide - I will pass your request on to our production team! Stay cool - Team Mishi
So I bought the Mishimoto Ultimate Bundle Kit and the oil cooler came with both Thermostatic and Non-Thermostatic. Im confused on the install on the oil filter part. I replaced 2 Ancillary hoses that lead to the oil filter housing. Would this be considered Non-Thernostatic? I was confused to where the black Ancillary hose with orange on the inside goes. I think i may have understood where that goes now from your demonstration. However if i go thermostatic, what do I do with the 2 extra Ancillary hoses that came in the kit?
We would highly recommend contacting our team for installation help at support@mishimoto.com. The bundle we include should come with the thermostatic plate within the oil cooler, not both. Either plate should not disrupt the OEM cooler and hoses that go to it.
If I have a fmic will this work or would it not fit or even be effective?
With the addition of this on a 2019 STI how much more oil is needed when doing an oil change??
You will want to add an additional 0.65 qt to the system.
hi, i just installed the cooler with thermostat kit. I followed every steps of this video, but there were oil leaking from the side of the spacer. Then i noticed my spacer is small than the one you have in the video. Im assuming that is the cause of the leak or I didn't torque the center M20 adaptor properly? Whats the torque spec for the M20?
thank you!!
Torque spec for the center bolt is 30-35 ft. lbs.
Do I need a tune this oil cooler? Ager installing it. Im getting a check engine light and my Accessport says it's the old pressure sensor that is erroring. How do i fix this. My installation was thermostatic with bypassed housing.
I try taking it to super. But they told me I have to put it back in stock for them to look at it
You should not require a tune for this item.
Hi! Im thinking on applying this fix to a Subaru Impreza Limited 2015 because I'm finding oil in my refrigerant suspect oil coolant is cracked (motor oil is clean no coolant in there). Should Impreza limited vs wrx be the same replacemebt steps?
We have not tested this on a non-turbocharged Impreza. Sorry!
How much Oil do I need to put on the cooler when first installing. Also once installed, do I need to add extra .75 qt to the system or the oil I added on the oil cooler itself is enough?
You can add a bit of oil to this (~0.25 quart), however, it's not necessary ad the oil pressure will fill the cooler up quickly once the first start up occurs.
Can the non-thermostatic unit work without the stock oil cooler?
Our kit is designed to retain the OEM cooler.
@@mishimoto what are the options for someone who does not have the OEM cooler? I already bought the MM non-thermostatic oil cooler.
We would suggest purchasing a replacement and center bolt from Subaru for proper installation.
@@mishimoto can I purchase the thermostat unit alone so I can add it to my non-thermostat oil cooler?

Will this work if you have an AOS?
An air oil separator and an oil cooler should have no issues together.
Hi I need some help, i vê bought that kit but i lost a hose that bypass the Stock Oil exchanger, I need tô know Inner diameter tô buy another
Please contact us directly at support@mishimoto.com with your Mishimoto order number or receipt and the team will be happy to look into this.
Installing the universal oil cooler onto a 2015 forester XT will require a modification to fit the sandwich plate. Will this unit fit directly to the oil filter mount on a 2015 forester XT???
Unfortunately, this is not something that we have tested in house. Sorry!
Does the air in the cooler lines need to be bled out or will the circulation system sort that out itself?
The oil cooler system does not require bleeding.
Have you verified if this will fit the levorg 2.0? I know the levorg did not hit american roads, but have you heard of people installing this on the said car?
We unfortunately have not tested with the Levorg. You may be able to install that with some minor modification.
besides a catch can, can you install a AoS with this oil cooler?
We aren't sure of what you are asking here. A catch can is a ail/oil separator. An AOS is completely separate system when compared to an oil cooler.
“Totally different systems and yeah this would be fine. The oil cooler will install at the front and run two tubes to a plate that goes between your oil filter and the place underneath it.
An AOS intercepts the ccv line and pcv line.
Along with the plumbing of coolant. But totally different systems they work with.”
Q. I just installed my thermostatic oil cooler. What temp was the thermostat rated?
The thermostat is designed to open at 185°F / 85°C
Hi, so when it's time for your first oil change after installation of the oil cooler; would you just fill the stsndard 5.1 litres or would it be 5.1+ 0.75 litres (again)?
My current thoughts are that it would be 5.1 L only as the extra 0.75 oil stays in the cooler?
Hey Jeff, unless you are emptying the cooler and lines, you will fill the system the same as usual. If you remove the cooler and lines, you will need to add additional oil.
@@mishimoto Alright got this installed, but it cools a little too well. I notice that it takes a super long time to even reach 170F. Is it possible to retain the factory oil cooler/warmer with the thermostatic sandwich plate?
did you figure this out ????

Is the cnc machined spacer available for seperate order?
Please feel free to reach out to our support team at support@mishimoto.com and we would be happy to look into this for you
so how much oil should you fill for prep
You will need to add an additional 0.75 qt to the system with the cooler installed
Is all this suitable on a Subaru xv 2013 model ?living in Malaysia ... Weather is hot
Modification to the kit would be required as this would no longer be a bolt on installation.
Can you run oil cooler and cvt cooler ?
Yes, our test car had both the oil cooler and CVT cooler installed
This work with the sti?
While the install process will be similar you will find a kit specific to the STI on our site and should fit without issues
Mishimoto silicone hose push it where ? and original oem 2 hose pipe is not need ?????
thanks you
Anyone know if this goes in the 2021 WRX? It seems some 2015+ parts don't work for the 2021 so.
Yes, this shoudl fit.
What if you have a front mount intercooler
This oil cooler kit will not be a direct fit for vehicles equipped with front mounts as the oil cooler will need to be relocated due to the lack of space up front.
Did you end up installing?
Where did u get the pop clip tool
Hey so does it matter which line plugs into where and what do I do with the old hoses I disconnected
The port the lines go into will not matter. Regarding the coolant lines that get disconnected there is a new line included in the kit to loop the coolant flow. This can be seen at 3:58
Mishimoto Automotive what about if I put this oil cooler in old intercooler location. ??
RESPONDER
Hey Diego. All of our testing was done with the location shown in this video. I would not be able to verify what type of results you will see if you relocate the oil cooler into a different location.
In my experience it works just as fine as in the stock location.
will this fit my 2015 forester xt?
Hey Carlo - sorry no, this is not a direct-fit for your Forester XT.
How it changed oil from the oil cooler when need oil change?
Hey Sky, most customers will leave the old oil in the cooler as it is a minor amount and won't affect the new oil by much as long as you are following the standard oil change intervals. Some do choose to pull and drain the cooler, but this will wear on your connections over time.
@@mishimoto cooler contain 0.75 quart oil, but that's enough to contaminated the fresh oil. Suppose to have drain plug on cooler, or adapter from hose to pump out the old oil
Assuming your oil change intervals are kept standard, you won't have issues with contaminated oil as the cooler is prior to your filter. Your new filter should be collecting these particles thoroughly enough to not require removing the cooler. We have time attack vehicles with multiple oil coolers that don't pull theirs to drain.
I wouldn't worry about it, but a very easy way you could drain the cooler and lines without taking the cooler off is to disconnect both lines at the sandwich plate and blow low pressure compressed air through the cooler and lines to push the old oil out. The problem with this is the engine won't get oil flow for the couple seconds it takes for the cooler to fill back up unless you refill it with oil somehow.
Another way is after you change the oil and replace the filter, disconnect the cooler's return line from the sandwich plate, place it in a bucket, and run the engine for a couple seconds or until you see clean oil coming out. This will push fresh oil through the cooler and lines to push the old oil out. I know this method works with a non thermostatic sandwich plate, but it might work with a thermostatic model too since the thermostat never completely closes off.
But just as with the first method, the problem with doing it this way is that the engine runs without oil flow for the couple seconds it would take to push the old oil out of the cooler and lines. This won't do any damage since the engine will be idling with no load on it and everything is still coated in oil, but leaving the old oil in the cooler won't do any damage either. The choice is yours whether you would rather run the engine for a couple seconds without oil flow, take the bumper off and drain and refill the cooler every time you change the oil, or leave a bit of old oil in the system.
does this need a tune?
+6spdtls Hi! This does not need a tune! If you have any other questions feel free to reach out to us anytime at support@mishimoto.com - stay cool! - Team Mishi
Mishimoto Automotive will this works with FMIC and CVT cooler? Where can I place this cooler?
Hey Diego. Unfortunately this part is not compatible with our FMIC .
Mishimoto Automotive what about if I put this oil cooler in old intercooler location. ??
when doing an oil change, will there be remaining oil in the cooler? is there a method to bleed it? i dont wanna just leave old oil especially if its a significant amount
Some oil will be left in the oil cooler but nothing significant. If you really wanted to the cooler could be removed. But you will find even on OEM setups some oil will be left in the coolers.
@@mishimoto awesome. i appreciate the fast response. one more question, though! what would be the process for a first-start? do i let my car run for a little, then add oil as needed? or do i just top off with the extra oil & start? anything special to do at all?
I generally would be preferred to fill the system from the start and allow the car to crank a few times without starting to get the oil flowing before start up.
@@mishimoto is this any different if I were to get the thermostatic cooler?
Does it suits for legacy 2016 2,5?
This was designed for the WRX and may require some modification for the Legacy.
will this fit on subaru XV 2016 ??
Hello Mauricio Antonio . We only have verified fitment of this product on a 2015-2016 Subaru WRX at the current time.
