You hit the point: If you want a car for every day use, the M240i is the better choice. I've driven an M2 LCI for 3,5 years, and I love the look and handling. But in things like long rides on bad roads or driving in winter, the M2 could be annoying sometimes. So now I've traded it for an M240i in black.
Great video Will, as you know I’ve done exactly that (sold my M2 comp for one) , I think it actually sounds better (although quieter) and when the valves are open you can still leave the throttle in comfort . Also Will (I’m 45) and I’ve halved my insurance compared to the M2 comp and if driven reasonably sensible the fuel figures are better and that is the key here ……the M2 comp always wanted to be let of the leach ….it was horrible to drive steady but great to dive hard where as this car is great to do both in ……I must admit I really do love it and am seriously pleased with my decision. Keep up the great vids mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Darren! Congrats! And I don't blame you. For most, the 240i is a better daily. I don't think there's a wrong answer here either - long as you're still having fun 👊

Test the 230i Coupe for comparison. It’s surprisingly great for even less money. It’s rear wheel drive with the four turbo. Better mpg and good power with a 255hp and 295 lbs of torque.
As someone that owns the original M240i and has spent a little bit of money addressing its weak points (diff, suspension, camber etc.). I can’t reconcile that the new car is a £50,000 prospect and uses the same engine. However in the context of the current market it is a truly unique offering and the performance cannot be denied.
The G42 has an upgraded B58 with nearly 50 more hp than the F22. It also comes standard with a LSD, 19" wheels, and is 40% stiffer. Overall more than makes up for the size/weight increase imho. Pricing is on point with the market, it's cheaper than a less optioned Supra (w/o backseats or AWD).
I really love how you compare finacial situations as well. It does add up love my m240i awd (B58 engine) in winter and daily driving you hit it spot on great review!
Great review. I have the M240i on order... and selling my M2 comp. Before the M2 comp i owned a M140i manual... Problem new M2 is indeed price but also earliest delivery date early 2023 :-)
My current predicament is this or a used M2 Comp. Never owned an M car (or BMW in fact) but i'm torn. New M2 is not an option as I don't fancy splashing out that much cash for one. I do have a family so this would be used for the occasional school run, the odd trip to the shops as I work from home at the moment and whenever I fancy a spirited drive. My head says M240i (as MrHCars said, the interest rates are much better on new cars - via dealer is about 10% for used cars!) but my heart says current M2 Comp. Have test driven the M240i and I thought it was good, yet to try the M2 though so will give that a go and decide.
Just the interest alone will Make your decision easier , I bought my M2 comp at a blistering 2.9% nearly 3 years (at 9 months old) ago and I worked out for the same car today (again 2nd hand at 8.9%) I would be paying about £280 pcm extra on what I was paying for mine …. That’s just insane …..in fact it would be nearly as cheap to get into a brand new M3 as a nearly new M2 comp pcm
For what it’s worth, I just picked up a 70 plate M2 comp last week (traded in my f40 M135i) and absolutely love it. Easy to drive in comfort with good mpg, and then just a beast in sport plus. I bought from BMW used approved but the BMW finance was 10.9% which was ridiculous, so I used a private finance broker which you’re allowed to do (try Forza or Magnitude) and got 6.8% which was around £130pm cheaper. I think the m240i will be incredible as well, but my quotes were coming out at circa £675pm with £8/9k deposit, which I just couldn’t get my head around for an m lite car (was also a 9 month wait best case scenario). Just my 2 cents, as I was having the exact same predicament as you. Currently regret nothing!
Great review and a great car 👍 I think the biggest drawback to this car, like many BMWs and cars generally is the amount of loss you will be hit with especially buying new - there is currently (24/09/24) one advertised at £37k, high miles for a 2023 (34,000 miles) but it cost £54k - 18 months at £17,000 - basically £250 A WEEK for easy reckoning 😲😲
The looks are really growing on me, especially in that blue. 👌 as an all round daily its pretty impressive. New M2 is going to be epic, if this is the starting point!
It's got to be a no brainer,my M2comp's suspension is as stiff as a board, and it"s a very uncomfortable ride aslso gives me no more than 20mpg in town in comfort mode,by all accounts the M240i does 0-60 in 3.8 secs which is just as quick if not quicker, then there's the insurance which is £1200 per annum even with 27 yrs NCB,I paid £52,500 for it,the only thing it"s a full M car and it's a looker but sadly my days of posing has long gone.
I got insurance for only £570 for this model. If i wanted to add spoiler and wheel spacers then I would have to go through a specialist insurer for £1600. Bonkers!
Another great video Will mate 👍. Looks a nice motor but anyone who has either swapped or thinking of swapping this for their m2 comp must be nuts 😬. I couldn’t bring myself to downgrade from an ‘M’ car to an Mlite. It’s a no from me but each to their own hey
BMW sort of manage to make these "upper end" cars better and better. Personally, I think it looks really weird and I couldn't buy it because it just hasn't grown on me like for example the M3/M4 have... But for anyone who likes it's appearance, congratulations.
