Your timing for this video is perfect! Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon just appeared at Mega Con in Florida! What a wonderful reminder of this amazing film! Thank you, gentlemen!
Although not onscreen: Harvey Keitel and Brad Pitt were in Inglorious Basterds together - Harvey is the commanding officer directing Lt. Aldo Raine (might have name wrong) to capture Christoph Waltz' character
A deleted scene which IMO should have stayed in shed more light on Jimmy/Louise. They have long been on again/off again and he was stringing her along. He didn't wanna commit and would go off on his own a lot, but he didn't wanna lose her. He was not stability. She got him to confess that the ring was an emergency ring. Basically, a 'shut up' ring. He got it when she went to TX to lure her back; but she came back on her own so he didn't think he'd need it but he held it in case he thought he ever needed to lure her back again, he held onto it to manipulate her with it. They talked about how she expected him to just know how she felt and what she wanted, and how she would get mad when he would try to ask. She had walls up and he had trouble breaking them down basically. You could see he was also hot headed and could be a volatile in the scene they kept. Neither were bad people and they did love each other, but they just couldn't get a relationship to work. She didn't want to get him involved by dragging him along or even telling him too much.
Watch the intro of Big trouble in little China. Gary's face when Ian sings a typical, slightly racist oriental junior school song. It's a very good example of Gary's WTF face
@34:30 That would remove all the dramatic tension from the end. Knowing that the was preventable and there was a way out, never taken, makes the end even more impactful and tragic.
Great movie, good people involved in production behind the camera but also in front there are some of the best actors of the 90's, Hollywood often glorifies violence and crime, but this movie does a good job balancing all those aspects and has many layers and themes that are still relevant today
This is one of those movies I’ve mostly known my whole life because my mom liked it a lot when it came out. But I enjoyed it too even as a kid in the early 90s. I revisited it in my 20s when I bought the dvd in 2013 out of nostalgia and I enjoyed it as an adult. I haven’t watched it since then, so there’s a lot of scenes I just always forget about in it. Unlike other classic movies that I’ve seen a hundred times and know every scene by heart, Thelma and Louise usually stays “new-ish” in my head because I only watched it a few times spread out over 30 years. Even in this review you mentioned things that I forgot happens in the movie, which just makes me wanna revisit it.
Iain- the reason Louise doesn't take Jimmy is because her trauma response is to be avoidant/super-independent and as Gary said she doesn't want to drag Jimmy into the mess with her - she wants to resolve it alone and look after herself and Thelma.
What a thorough and thoughtful review! It was such a pleasure watching as another big fan of the movie! Not surprised at all that some unnamed executive called it "two bitches in a car", and that stuck as it was being shopped around. Gotta wonder which exec it might've been - especially in today's climate of unmasking some of the misogyny in Hollyweird. I don't know if it's the general consensus that this is considered a feminist film, but I'm not a feminist, and I've always loved it, just because it's full of great characters and is a compelling story. I never really thought that it might be a message and a "what if" story about women who finally freak out and retaliate after dealing with enough sexist bullcrap in their day to day lives. I was a teenage grass-fed midwestern American girl at the time this movie came out, and I remember plenty of it back then, but it was also more accepted back then. A lot of ways women were treated back in the 80s (and certainly before that) would never be acceptable now, thankfully. Having said all that, I hope you'll forgive me a "woo woooo!" at young Brad Pitt, here! Even back then I had a feeling we'd not be seeing the last of him! :)
I was pretty young when this came out and it was probably the first movie that i ever seen where the 2 main characters unalive themselves at the end. Kind of a head trip.
great review guys, ive never watched this film but the seen where they drive off the cliff is so Icon/memorable whenever i read or hear "Thelma & Louise" that is the scene that jumps to mind
Very entertaining movie. Truthfully it may even be slightly underrated. Solid across the board from script, acting & director. Great cinematography, which wasn't a surprise with Ridley Scott. Hans Zimmers' soundtrack is spot on.
Hi Fellas would you Please do a review on The Relic. And I have two other film ideas also. King 👑 Kong 1933 & Godzilla 1954. I really enjoy your videos guys you two can be a trip lol. Keep up the great videos.
WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE THIS IS !!!.....................EVERY TIME I WATCH IT, GETS BET.TER AND BETTER !!!...LOVE IT!.................LIKE AGOOD OLD WINE...........
Makes me laugh when Iain says 2hrs is a longggg film! Most films are well over that these days. How do you get on with a 3 hour film Iain? Have you seen The Seven Samurai?
Hello Fellas to you in the U.K. from The U.S.A. Guys would you please do a review on The Relic. Also two others King 👑 Kong 1933 and lastly Godzilla 1954. Thanks Fellas. ID love for you two to review The Relic the most.
There are a couple of problems with it, it’s hard to believe those two would be with such loser men, especially Geena’s character. Also there is no way they would leave all their money in that hotel room. Apart from that great movie.
I love this movie, ever since I was a kid. If it was made today, it would be shit, with a bunch of shifty unnecessary sequels. Every time I watch it, it goes by too fast and leaving me wanting more.
Avoided the film for years because I thought it was a feminist film. Have just watched it and think it deserves the acclaim it got. Think also it no less silly to call it a feminist film just because the protagonists are women whose antagonists are men than it is to accuse a man of misogyny because he criticises a woman. There are both sympathetic men in the film and nasty ones, just as there are in any film, which makes the misandry/feminism criticism perfectly invalid.
Sorry, but this movie was only interesting back in the 90s, today it is meaningless. We are simply sick and tired of the feminist mantras since two decades back -- we already know and understand exactly everything the movie is saying, there is nothing new or fresh.
Wayne and Garth, dressed up as Thelma & Louise driving their car off a cliff while trying to find the bands ! LOL
😂👍
-"I think you should apologize"
-"Fuuuuck that!"
-"Did you call us beavers over the radio?"
-"Suuuuure did!"
Best character ever.

so many people cheered
at that scene in the theater
Thelma and Louise is a true classic. If I had to describe it in one way, I'd call it Vanishing Point for the 90s.
Not many movies have an ending like this.

My other favourite Riley Scott film is Black Rain 👊
Great movie, good people involved in production behind the camera but also in front there are some of the best actors of the 90's, Hollywood often glorifies violence and crime, but this movie does a good job balancing all those aspects and has many layers and themes that are still relevant today
You really understand this film Gary :)

Wow! I didn't even know Ridley Scott could do drama like movies! Seriously! Props to him! I'll have to check this one out myself! Great review guys!
Love it when you branch out from the usual stuff.
Iain- the reason Louise doesn't take Jimmy is because her trauma response is to be avoidant/super-independent and as Gary said she doesn't want to drag Jimmy into the mess with her - she wants to resolve it alone and look after herself and Thelma.
You guys are sooo underrated

Ridley Scott is legendary, from science fiction to drama, he does it so effortlessly, Matchstick Men being one of my favourites.
Yes! Matchstick men was my recommendation. It fit so perfectly on Off the Shelfs channel as well
I was pretty young when this came out and it was probably the first movie that i ever seen where the 2 main characters unalive themselves at the end. Kind of a head trip.

I just wish inspired more women to do the same. lol. Maybe just specific women. Just throwing this out there...My exes for example.
