On August 26th, 2005, Kenenisa Bekele ran a 26:17 for the 10,000 meters. This time broke his previous world record by 3 seconds, and to this day, this achievement has stood as the World Record for almost 15 years.
This single performance is perhaps the most impressive 10,000 meter moment in history, but what made it possible? Was it his training? Was it the energy from the crowd? Was it the perfect pacing from his younger brother Tariku? Or was it a combination of all of these factors combining into the perfect racing moment?
In this video, we're taking a deep dive into the fastest 10k ever run, and we'll see exactly what made this world record possible.
    Thanks for watching!

(I was new to athletics, and it seemed to me that there was too little time left to finish the race in under 26:20) My friend sitting beside me said: "No, he's gonna make it!" Turned out he was right. It's a good memory, and the first world record in athletics that I ever witnessed live. Had I only known at the time, that no one would come close to the record in 15 years.

Fantastic ! Always loved Bekele. Nobody will ever break that world record. He only made one mistake in his career, which he admitted and that was the Olympic 5000m final of 2004. He should have pushed the pace a lot earlier than he did to run the finishing speed out of El Guerrouj. He made up for that mistake in 2008 with a simply devastating piece of running in the 5000m Olympic final, which has been noted as Bekele's best ever race.

It's incredible how he had to run the entire last half of his 10k WR by himself. So tough to be all alone like that. But that's Bekele! He's just so good at getting into a rhythm and keeping a consistent pace even when he's running alone. And his kick is OUT OF THIS WORLD. That last 100m of the 10k must have been in 10.5 seconds or so! Unbelievable. I will always be in awe of this man's greatness. What a legend. Thanks for the video!

That is incredible. 6.2 miles in 26 minutes! Most humans can't do it in an hour. Those that are in shape maybe can do it in 40 plus minutes.I once ran it way under that but it took monumental effort in terms of training. And I knew that this freak show won't be repeated very often. And once it's gone,it's gone.

he was poised to break the marathon, unfortunately, the coronavirus ruined his plan... he would have broken the marathon record a long time ago the problem was he had a lot of injuries ... Kenenisa is a special athlete, I don't think we will get an athlete with his calibre in the near future . His records are still intact with all these technological advancements, nutrition supplements, modern training ...

Kenenisa himself said that humans a thousand years ago were the same as humans today! So what has changed is the technology...
Like the wavelights Nike used to help Cheptegei break the records.
Too bad Cheptegei will never come close to the legacy and greatness of Haile or Kenenisa

I'm pretty sure 63 seconds is the fastest I ever ran a 400m in school. Just once lap. So, this pace is ridiculous.!! Great vid.

Everything you've said about Kenenisa not exadurated at all. We would have even seen an imaginable time in marthon if he wasn't injured for a long time. Haveing said that, he still has a chance to màke history before he hang his running shoes. Sadly the London marthon in last April was his best chance, but as you all know the race was canceled due to COVID 19. On another not, you guys are doing a fantastic job as far as reporting!! Thank you!!!!👍❤️

The time is legendary, but it’s also a massive outlier in distance records. Nobody has come within 25 seconds. I like Bekele and hope this record is clean, but I have a hard time believing it. An athlete in his track prime, already the best, taking it that much further, likely with EPO. Again, I hope it’s clean, but I have a hard time believing that it is.

    • @kibretmessalea7144

I suspect Mo Farah and Kepchoge for EPO doping because they came from nowhere to be the best and they used to be crap runners most of the time unlike Kenenisa who is consistent throughout his carriers from 1.5 km to Marathon.

    • @teshlawaldemariam917

kibret Messalea right if there is one athlete I will suspect less is Bekele. Because he has always been the best since he was a teen age. Now 14 years latter he almost broke the marathon record. I don’t have any issues with Kipchoge either, but Farah. Kipchoge was world champion at the age of 18 and come 2 and 3 against Bekele many times. Farah in other hand has Always been an average runner for over 5 years but all of a sudden he become one of the greatest. Keep it in mind that he is almost 2 years older than Kipchoge

Also when Cheptegei ran the 10000m and 5000m he had wavelights on the track guiding him. That is massive cheating. A computer pacing system telling him exactly what pace to run.
Kenenisas records will always be the most impressive and the real world record 💚 anbesa Kenenisa

Bekele's average pace for this race equals a 2:06.2 pace for the 800m. I'm happy if I can do one 800m. He did it for 12.5 800meters back to back to back etc. !!!
