Opie wanted the show to die by not fighting for Anthony and slowly kicking Jimmy out so he could do his own new show but didn't realize that all the power and respect he had was because of the Opie & Anthony show.

This is what I bet happened. XM realized Opie was not important to the show getting paid a lot and a constant pain to deal with. They probably went. You own what. The fans like Jim more. We can pay him less and he’s a million times more pleasant to deal with. That’s why opie isn’t there anymore. He was worthless to the show. I know that because the show he does alone gets 20 live viewers. Nobody listened to OandA for opie.
And conspiring to get Anthony fired too. I don’t doubt for a second he had a hand in that.

While I agree, if you have 3 chaotic personalities talking, it goes off the rail pretty fast. Opie, as STUPID and ANNOYING as he was, he REALLY kept that show focused and moving. Witness how AWFUL Jim is without Anthony or Patrice. Anthony alone is HORRIBLE. The brilliance of their show came when they got all the comedians on, because Jimmy and Anthony are VERY clever when there are funnier people around.

Jimmy basically admitted Opie never went to bat for Anthony which btw, we all knew. This whole Sam thing sucks. As a caller stated, Jimmy needs an Anthony type to play off of. A comedian breakfast club gets fucking boring.

Sam is trash. Is never funny and still talks about wrestling. Jimmy went for the $ obv we all would, however hat caller had a point about Jimmy’s integrity, the ant and Jim show would without doubt be 10 times better than that abortion known as Jim & Sam.

Anthony was the show, was actually Anthony & Anthony show, I’ve been listening since 1999, currently sub to Cumia’s show. Was opie smart for recognizing Anthony’s talent, yeah, no one doubts that.
Cumia is the best broadcaster ever. Better than stern, imus etc.
How anybody didn’t see it is beyond me.
I mean it's because of Opie why Anthony got as far as he did in the business. You can't change that for anything. Because nobody else gave a fuck about Anthony.
I would say Opie helped get the show to its height, but Anthony made the show listenable at their lowest. Opie is the one that came up with benchmark bits like Homeless Shopping Spree, 55 gallon drum challenge, Sex for Sam, etc. These are the things that got Opie and Anthony media coverage and popularity.
When SiriusXM shutdown all these large scale events, Opie's contribution became much smaller. All he had left was his ability to make uncomfortable radio funny, and that lessened as he "tried to get the negativity out of his life".
Without Opie, Anthony wouldn't have been anything. Without Anthony, Opie would have bounced around radio stations and wouldn't have made it passed being a mid-day jock.

The jim and sam show is trash. I cant even listen to late o an a where Sam is too comfortable in the room. He makes a good once a week punching bag at best. I don't know what Norton is supposed to be doing these days. The show isn't funny or interesting

I was in the same place, I thought Opie was valuable to the show, and his contributions were just not in the spot light like Jim & Ant, but over the last 2 years I have finally seen what he really was. I am shocked SXM is even signing him again, he has ZERO chance on his own, he offers nothing.
Opie was the hole that brought the momentum of the show to a halt. Ant and Jim would be on a role and Opie would pipe up and kill it.

I started listening in 04 when I saw Jim in Seattle and he thanked o&a and got a standing ovation, kept listening cus him and and where great and almost gave up cus opie is awfull

I've tried to defend Opie almost every time because a lot of people go over the top with what could have been valid criticisms...but jesus Opie gives you every reason to hate him. He does his best to kill the old show's best characters like Uncle Paul, his major contributions include retelling other people's jokes and explaining them like we're mongoloids who didn't get it, and then he complains because people say he doesn't offer anything worthwhile. No charisma, no self-awareness, and a passive-aggressive drama seeker like a teenage girl. What a fucking waste.

The bottom line: Anthony Cumia is a highly crafty, witty, talented, smart, rigid, principled, and unique person who's personality can lure in and sustain an audience, which ultimately brought in high ratings and lasting sales. From a business standpoint, firing top notch talent was the stupidest move executives at Sirius could have made. Once that decision was set in motion they drove the final nail in the satellite coffin. Look at the empire Mr. Cumia has built up in a two year period. To the executives at Sirius, never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Even Bobo is funnier than Opie.

Their was ZERO chemistry (without Anthony) between Opie and Jimmy.
It was 100% an integrity issue in regards to Jim not signing with Anthony. He knew he would have enjoyed doing a show with Anthony more than Opie. He knew that the show would have been much better if he was with Anthony as well. However the pay wasn’t as good so he opted to do a show with Opie instead. It was a business decision so I don’t begrudge him for it, but doing something for money when you know that you could have done something better that both he and the fans would have enjoyed more is the opposite of integrity. Even Sam alluded to it by saying “If you took the money knowing that you wouldn’t have been able to do a good show, then it could be an integrity issue…..maybe.” He said “maybe” at the end because he knew that’s exactly what Jimmy did and he realized it too late 🤣
Opie is gonna lose if he goes against Jim and Anthony. This is awesome.
I used to not really like Jim Norton but him candidly talking things through like a maniac is very cathartic.
I knew Jimmy, back when he was a teen-ager and I followed his career, when it started taking off. I'll vouche for his character ANY day.

I made through the first hour of their first show, then canceled my subscription. Not into tranny talk with Jimmy.
I wish everyday for a show with Ron Bennington, Anthony and Jimmy. It will be fantastic. Ron is a radio genius. Ant may very well be the funniest man on the radio. Jimmy is brillaint. The connection he has with Anthony is remarkable. Thats a show I will pay for and listen all the time. I know it prob will never happen. I get it. I enjoy jim and sam. Anthony and Artie is terrific.
The Opie and Jimmy show was awful. I know Jimmy is funny, I heard him being funny for years. Let's be honest, we all heard Opie, his strength isn't comedy., he's not the funny guy.

I read Op's tweet and all I can think of is "I WAS BLOCKED!" Now I'll never look at Club Soda Kenny the same.

Remember when Opie talked about his mentally ill mother who thought everyone was against her and had a “me me me” mentality. He also mentioned to Patrice and Vos that he broke the cycle.
I really think whatever illness his mother had was passed on to him.
Their radio show was like a band. Even though Opie wasn't a funny guy, etc. it took all three of them to make the show. Just like trying to replace a member of a band changes the sound, the same went for these guys. Just like Ant said many times that he was happy to keep it rolling because he was thankful to be there. Opie just couldn't put his ego aside and do the same.
The reality is, though, that jim and Ant are funny, talented guys that can survive by doing something different. Opie is not capable of doing it alone and has proven that - where is he now? Happy when he gets 200 viewers on facebook and his other platform.
Oppie recognized Anthony talent but that's it. He was largely unnoticeable in the show when he had killers around him

Final results: Patrice O Neal Was the only thing holding Opie and Anthony together....Opie,Anthony and Jim Norton didn't even equal half of Patrices wit and Humor.....

Jesus. We all thought Patrice was funny but what is this cult that makes people say this kind of shit? It doesn’t even make sense. He wasn’t ever a member of the show, they hated each other way before he ever came on as a guest, and Ant wasn’t fired until 3 years after he died. The only reason he was there is because he was friends with Jim and he probably hated Opie like everyone else.

The thing about Opie is that he's not funny. When Ant says things like "he's not self-aware", that's part of being unfunny. Funny people can laugh at themselves and virtually any situation, like Jim. Talking about serious stuff and then quips "Sam means that in a different sense" when Sam goes "I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!". He can make jokes despite the situation. Opie simply wasn't funny, and their radio show was a comedy show at heart, so it obviously didn't work out over time.
If he was funny, his personal issues wouldn't matter.

Putting any and all blame aside, just about any matching of people after O&A was pretty much destined to fail. It's like the time that David Lee Roth took their time slot when they went off the air. There wasn't a soul alive that would not have been set up for failure in that situation. O&A were and are radio gold and that can't be replaced. Jimmy never sounded like he was happy when working with Opie and vice versa.
Jim was never funny like Colin, Patrice, or Greg. He was surrounded with greatness for years, became associated with it, and made a career out of it. Opie is the worst.
