  • On air fight regarding DL and Jimmy having issues. Opie knew Jimmy didn't want to have DL in studio due to their personal issues, but Opie booked him anyhow. This includes the ending of the interview with DL and Jimmy's explanation of the events leading to their beef, plus Jimmy and Opie discussing the next day. Enjoy.

But you could see those videos, all online too, that Opie was very, very distraught. He was asked about doing something together on-air, and Opie had the look of 'oh, shit...i messed up', & made an excuse of 'management feels that opportunity sailed'...fast-forward to Anthony's show, Jim was a guest. Come to find out, Opie legit screwed Anthony's chances at coming back, SiriusXM wanted him to come back while he was doing his own thing, but it's all Opie....maybe all that time playing Candy Crush has him bitter because he can't get past a certain level.

You’d think that Opie would learn something from sitting next to two adults and watching them discuss their issues without erupting into an adult temper tantrum lol... Excellent point. I’m not the world’s biggest DL fan but I absolutely agree, he handled it will. He took ownership of what he did and was willing to listen. He knows that taking accountability leads to protecting relationships that he may need in a business as notoriously unpredictable as show business.
Five years from now, Opie will be in his sixties. He *still* does not know this. He still thinks growing up on the North Shore of Long Island and eating Pepperidge Farm bread means you’re poor. Wow.

My favorite part is how DL slips in a dig at Jim/Kim's masculinity when he says, in regard to Kim sulking like a baby during the whole interview, "Ah, I knew it--see, my wife does that when she gets mad." Of course Kim wasn't bright enough to notice. That being said, Kim wasn't the better man of the 3; he should learn to put his personal feelings about guests aside. If you have a personal problem with someone because of something they did off-air, leave it off-air. Opie sucks at radio but at least he always understood that.

Henry Medina I'm assuming his mother had borderline personality disorder/narcissism, and even if Opie doesn't have that then he definitely picked up some of her traits because he was raised by her. Always playing the victim, not being self-aware (Yet having a very fragile sense of self-esteem), and the passive-agressiveness all play into this. Those months after Anthony was fired was genuinely enjoyed by Opie. This was his way of almost getting even with Jimmy, who he blamed along with Anthony, because in his mind they turned the fans against him. He honestly thinks the fans were manipulated by them. He doesn't realize that everybody witnessed Opie being a completely jealous and increasingly delusional guy. And without Anthony there, he felt he had the upper hand on Jimmy because it was his show and wanted to make him pay. Karma is sweet when it works out like this. While he was busy trying to nurse his wounded ego, reality was working in the real world, and the powers that be were doing their job and giving Jimmy the morning slot and throwing Opie a bone and sticking them on in the afternoon. Opie worked good with Anthony and Jimmy as the street guy. Everybody knows this, it's no secret. I don't know why it was such a problem for him, but he should have just accepted it. I miss the old show. Nothing will ever be like that again. It was lightning in a bottle and a lot of people loved it. I love compound media now, and I love Jimmy's work, and I really wish Opie would do well for himself. I wish he would stop trying to be someone else, like Jimmy or Anthony.

This shows whole ossue was that Opie saw it as his show, but tried to pretend Norton was an equal partner when he wasn't. Jim's role on the show was simultaneously expanded and reduced. His name ended up on the show, but was treated worse than before it was.

the 2nd half of the conversation has Opie trying to lightly cover up his power plays of being the BOSS. nothing is worse than this ass hole in passive mode. He did not address that he has the final say and Jimmy is NOT his equal.

Jimmy expects an unreasonable amount of personal loyalty from Roland here. Roland IS just doing his job. And his job is overseen by Opie, since Opie makes all the decisions. How can Jimmy expect a worker in a lower position to push back on the boss on lil Yimmy's behalf? Roland's job is not to advocate for Jimmy and ensure he has an equal say. He's not a personal assistant. The dude is just trying to make a living.

Jim: “it is what it is. I need to ask for permission in order to get guests.”
    Opie: “nah that’s not true”
Jim: “I make requests and have to wait to see if I get approval.”
Opie doesn’t get it. He constantly says in this segment that he “gives” Jimmy some of his requests and doesn’t understand that Jimmy isn’t saying that Opie says no to every request. His point is he has to ASK. Even with Stunt Brain. Opie said he wanted him but didn’t have him on because Jim didn’t want him. Then Jim says “but you could have had him on if you really wanted him” and Opie says “no but like I kinda let you have that one because I knew you didn’t want him and that’s how this works.” That’s the point. The fact that he used the word “let” just shows that he knows he’s the boss and gets to make the final decision.

  • @killustrator

The first part of this starts off good. The line where dl says "my boss is a dick" and Norton was like "I can relate" was awesome. I have to assume that line was the one removed from the replay???? Does anyone know? Anyway, the second half of this clip is very disappointing. It's just Norton being as passive aggressive as a human being can be. I find his stance of just being another guest the most passive aggressive part of the whole thing. The whole discussion goes nowhere.

Opie never had a good idea on the topic of "what makes good radio." Ant and Jimmy had to plow through his show killing interruptions and jokes for YEARS. By this point in the timeline of the show, Jimmy should have had equal say (if not more) in ALL the guests because he was the only one of the two that was actually funny. With Opie in 100% control, the show went straight to the bottom.

For years I always said that Opie was always the instigator and troublemaker behind the scenes between O&A, but the shit always deflected toward Anthony Cumia. Now that he is, for the most part, standing alone, he has nobody to hide behind and he's showing his true douchiness. I can see Jimmy breaking off at the end of his contract and if that happens, Opie has nothing to offer on his own. In my opinion, they fired the wrong guy!!

    So, in summary:
Norton makes no attempt to contact DL - either at the time of the issue or any point after.
Instead assumes the situation in his head, and operates as if that assumption is fact.
Tells Opie, Roland, etc. "DL is a hard no, I don't want him in" behind the scenes. Opie suggests, not unreasonably, that he reach out to DL.
Refuses, even though he later acknowledges he knew the issue would have been easily resolved the next time he saw him.
Instead tries to use his power to have a compelling guest blacklisted while pushing for such riveting content as p star interviews (on the radio, in 2016).
It pains me to say it but, based Opie.

He's an FM guy, and couldn't handle being irrelevant.
He could introduce music, transition to calls, handle promos, talk about future scheduling, etc. FM radio is his thing.
Then, satellite radio eliminated the need to play music, and everything had to be carried by the radio personalities. He can't do that. The more it went, the more irrelevant he became. That's why he would interrupt conversation, spontaneous comedy, off the cuff stuff. He had to be heard with his callers, and BS.
