Hey there, there is a way to create an ecosystem between any two OS in this example Mac and Android, which I use daily. It's called KDE Connect for Android and for Mac it's called Soduto. The upload/download steps is whet those of us with slow internet wouid like to avoid. What about if you are moving 10GB of files between android and macbook? A cable is the only way
A lot of really valid points here that I’ve never considered since I’m an iPhone / MacBook guy. But I’ve always said I want my devices to help me do the things I enjoy doing without becoming the things I enjoy doing, so whatever gets you to that point is the best option for you ❤️
You said at the beginning no body asked you, but here I am. I am watching your video because I want to get an android with MacBook and i was wondering if that's logical and what headache i will face. Thak youuuu for answering and maybe nobody sponsor one day be the biggest brands on earth and you choose them InshaAllah
I had an android with a MacBook for a while since Mac is better in terms of performance, and I will say it’s not super bad. Not being able to move files was annoying but remember android is basically a computer so u could do whatever there instead and I’m usually using my phone in addition to the laptop to multitask in terms of texting, switching to iPhone definitely makes the experience much more convenient but it’s nothing super duper necessary
There's something man! There's definitely something with your videos, i instantly liked your content and the way you make your videos. Not those usual over enthusiastic and loud youtubers. The calmness and to the point relatable things is damn good.
The airdrop segment was pretty weak, you're assuming anyone with a Samsung phone has a Samsung laptop which just isn't the case. And the alternatives like uploading the google drive etc aren't basically the same as airdrop which JUST an extra step, the time it takes to upload and download those files is also a factor. Cuz yknow, not everyone has blazing fast internet
I don’t know about safari synchronisation, but Firefox is fire at it, it can sync to any device. Plus Firefox has Privacy and Adblock support, Free Relay Email to protect your personal email.
I am using an Android phone paired with a Macbook. I believe those OS are the best of both worlds in their current states. that said, I'm always tempted to switch to iOS for the full integration experience even though I can't stand iOS. Android has always been my favorite OS specially for productivity so I am glad to know that I'm not alone.
You can use Kde connect on your android phone and macbook to do the exactly same stuff like with android to windows You can sync clipboard, send large file, access your file system remotely, notification and a lot If you are using this combo give my recommendation a try✌️
Ive been doing this for years now. Never thought anyone would make a video about. Im not gonna watch this one, just wanted to say you youtube guys are better than me, i could never come up with all these ideas for videos, or even care enough to film and edit all this. Hope you get a sponsor though!!!!
You're completely right. I've never noticed. When I grab my mac is strictly for making money. And my phone/pc is always for fun. I never get it wrong because of this clear and easy distinction.
the key point here is which one suits you the best. I used to own an iPhone and a Macbook. I realized that they are really convenient for me given the synchronization between Apple's devices. But when my iPhone's battery started to show bad performance, I switched to a Samsung S23, which I found initially a bit less convenient. Yet, I still gave it a try. After few months living with Macbook and Samsung phone, I feel... nothing much to complain. Clearly having something to work with in the ecosystem is great, but it doesn't mean you must follow procedure if you don't really need it.
this is by far the most insight tech review i have watched and your words resonates with my daily life so much. thank you sir for putting out such great high quality stuff on this ignorant internet world. those voices need to be heard more
Agree with everything you say, i have always used android for mobile os devices but mac for desktop machines, similarly I use Brave browser to sync everything between devices and one drive for sharing.
Not using ecosystem gives you freedom. Freedom to change whatever device you want. Yes there are problems but I rather have freedom to use my devices my way than they are designed to with certain manner.
Snapdrop is great for mix match devices; it directly sends files to other devices via p2p so you don't have to worry about sending something through a third party. Only requirement is to be on the same wifi network together
I also am a mixed ecosystem user. Mostly because i dont really use any of those features that are inteded to make the devices work better together. All my photos go to icloud and google photos so its a non issue for me. Please keep the bloopers. Makes me watch the full video every time. Also the youtube comment was 10/10. NGL, you do give off some MKBHD vibes :)
I use an iPhone with a Windows PC. I get around the lack of AirDrop by connecting to my home WiFi server through the Files app and sharing things that way. Works pretty damn well.
I've used both Android and iPhones one the years, and I always use a MacBook. I agree - sometimes it's a relief not to have everything linked / connected.
Samsung phone and MacBook user here. I quit iPhones back around iPhone 5 and haven't missed it one bit. I just recently picked up a MacBook Pro and find it to be a great laptop for the Adobe range of products and design work I do on it. I still use a PC for my main computer/desktop and that will never change. I use the iPad a lot for illustrating and wanted it to be a bit easier to move files back and forth from there to computer programs, and that's why I decided on the MacBook. While I am overall happy with my MacBook, it's a bit clunky in areas and frustrates me to no end that it doesn't work easier with Android/PC when it comes to simple things like file sharing. But as you said, there are work arounds and I make do.
I use an S23+ with a Macbook Pro (personal machine) and an HP Laptop (work machine). And I really love the ability to use Google messages regardless of the platform I’m on. I also have my Google profile loaded on both machines so I can use Google Drive with both machines. The one thing I don’t like is taking notes. Neither One Note or Google Keep are my favorite note taking apps. I really loved both Apple Notes and Samsung Notes but they are both platform specific. At the end of the day I do like having mixed setup. I think Apple has the best laptops and tablets. And I think Samsung has the best phones. I don’t know that I’ll ever go back to the walled garden completely, ever again. Great video and thanks
You're good, honest and more practical compared to others who are either fan of apple/android and somewhat partial. You've earned a lifetime subscriber until u start being partial to one.
I have a hybrid collection but with Google Drive and Google Photos it’s seamless amongst all three of my main devices, Samsung phone, iPad, Windows PC and MacBook Pro.
Stuff won’t get blended together if you organize your workflow. And you can have the phone and Mac automatically alter your workspace based on time of day or setting.
My Linux machines pair nicely with both my iPhones and Androids. No need for Windows. I don't like the convoluted way my Mac Photos app stores the photos from my iPhones and Androids, so I just dump my pictures from the phone to Linux and transfer backup copies to my Mac. A weird workflow...but it gets me through the day.
I always tell people *xender* it’s available on any os mobile or pc and it can share any type of file without quality loss as long as you’re on the same lan. I use an iPad and a Samsung phone and a pc and I never face any issues if I want to transfer from pc to iPad it’s easy and vice versa with android too basically a universal app or a bridge for all the operating systems .
I have no clue why you have so few subscribers. I honestly love how you explain things which many prominent and famous tech channels fail to do. (Not talking about the top one tho') Also, the man knows some magic tricks ... anyone notice?
Some work arounds that I use include the clouds. If you're in an office environment and they use Google Drive, you can open your work on the mobile version of Drive and continue on. I also upgraded from an Intel Mac to an M3 Mac, and virtualize Windows 11 on that. Only use it for Windows only apps like Microsoft Access For texting, I used apps like AirMessage in the event that I was dealing with people who only liked iMessage. However, the new iOS adding RCS support made that obsolete. I did it to share videos through iMessage when I was away from my computer. The only thing I now battle are the people who won't update to the new iOS, and the "children" who still obsess over the color of a bubble. If seeing green keeps someone from wanting to text me, then it's on them. I also use the different colors (Blue for RCS and Brown for SMS), but that's just so I know that if I want to share a video, it will come out compressed and pixilated on their end.
Amazing video cause i actually like this and android is something that i truly love and in computers i love macbooks and macs in general i think its a great combination
I use a Pixel 7 with my M1 MacBook Air and have all the same functionality I had when I had an iPhone and a much older Mac several years ago. The only thing I missed when switching was messages, but then I found the Google Messages app and everything is back to normal. Never used Safari on my computer, only Chrome and now Arc. Didn't use any other syncing stuff either.
I would like to see a comparison between the two ecosystems for sure…I struggle with really wanting to break out of the Apple ecosystem since I have been it so long for a change but damn it’s hard.
The samsung ecosystem is great and you have choices. I use phone, buds, tablet, and laptop. There us really nothing apple offers that I can do. Again, I have choices of devices and get way more for my money. Storage is a great example. I had the MacBook air 2017 before and while it was good and I used it with my galaxy s20, I still get more from the Samsung ecosystem.
The eco systems (purely samsung products that is) are almost the exact same. I’ve literally got both eco systems and the differences are marginal at best. Just comes down to what you prefer.
I am considering buying a macbook Air as i wanna get into editing videos and photos, but i own a Samsung s23 ultra, which i just bought. I am worried that most apps on the macbook would be paid for as opposed to the android. Plus, i am worried about how they would work well together. In terms of transferring files back and forth. Please help! 🙏🏽
I do the same setup. I have been using a Macbook Pro and a S20-24 Ultra for years. I have Google for most applications and use Texty for the messaging capability. Plus Microsoft One Drive is the best for all ecosystems. I just cant stop using those beautiful Samsung screens.
I've been on Android since the Galaxy S2 and never really cared for iphones. I bought an iPad for procreate and then upgraded my old lenovo to a MacBook pro for school. I enjoyed using sidecar on the iPad as a second screen. I bought an iPhone to see if I would enjoy the whole "ecosystem." While it is pretty cool that you can answer your phone on any device, I hated getting multiple notifications. If my phone was on silent, I typically get a notification on my garmin watch, but now I hear it on my MacBook and my iPad. The MacBook was also kind of aggressive when it came to suggesting using the phone on the desktop after the iOS 18 update (something I did not care for). I went back to my Pixel 7 and have android messages on my dock. I use google photos and Keep notes, so I'm not really missing much. I enjoyed the iPhone (SE 3rd gen) mainly because of how small it is. Both phones have their pros and cons, but the iPhone had too many compromises.
I'm using an iPhone as a personal device and Windows laptop for work and it makes total sense when you said that there's no disturbance from your phone while doing some intense work. I like the iPhone bcoz it simply works and Windows bcoz I've been using it for decades now and it's simply gotten very better now.
Android and Macbook user here. I will admit the one advantage of airdrop is being able to send files between devices without having to sign into an account. Having an iphone coworker airdrop directly to my MBP is nice, but IMO not a strong enough feature to get me to switch.
I have an M1 Macbook Air and an M2 Mac Mini. Guess what my phone is? An S23 Ultra (soon to be upgraded to S24 Ultra). And I never had any issues with it.
Loved the bloopers..... My Note 9 is restarting very 5 minutes so I'm looking at a new phone. Have to admit I-Phones cameras are (IMO) almost as good as Galaxy ones.. Looking at the pixel 7 and 7a but the 128GB is limiting. Looking at an unlocked s23 ultra and IPhone 14 too. any thoughts? Also, I think I will see what goes on sale during Prime days....
@maze40 - I just the S23U to replace the iPhone 13 PM (that's in the draw now) & it was because of the lack of a decent zoom on the iphone. We were going on a scenic cruise and the S23U gave us some fantastic shots that several friends have remarked on...
Great video. I just bought the MBP with M3 Pro and really like it. I was used to Windows 11 with Phone Link App & Samsung, but with Firefox Sync, Nearby Share (NearDrop on Mac), OneDrive and Google Messages (thanks for this hint, wasn't aware of it!) it's quite similar. You have a new sub ☺

The upload/download steps is whet those of us with slow internet wouid like to avoid. What about if you are moving 10GB of files between android and macbook? A cable is the only way
I like the authenticity of your videos... theres something different about your videos. Great video.
Using drive sucks, i would rather use a cable but its not easy either
2:56 did you actually throw the phones in the video 😂😂
@@Carl30005 yeah
I don’t know about safari synchronisation, but Firefox is fire at it, it can sync to any device.
Plus Firefox has Privacy and Adblock support, Free Relay Email to protect your personal email.
Chrome has the same sync last time I checked
I am using an Android phone paired with a Macbook. I believe those OS are the best of both worlds in their current states. that said, I'm always tempted to switch to iOS for the full integration experience even though I can't stand iOS. Android has always been my favorite OS specially for productivity so I am glad to know that I'm not alone.
Apt.
You can use Kde connect on your android phone and macbook to do the exactly same stuff like with android to windows
You can sync clipboard, send large file, access your file system remotely, notification and a lot
If you are using this combo give my recommendation a try✌️
I’ve done it for many years and it’s amazing
Feem and LocalSend for cross-platform sharing without a pain. Nearly like AirDrop.. I do this between iPad and S23..
Ive been doing this for years now. Never thought anyone would make a video about. Im not gonna watch this one, just wanted to say you youtube guys are better than me, i could never come up with all these ideas for videos, or even care enough to film and edit all this. Hope you get a sponsor though!!!!
Nice video, Dayo. Thanks
❤️
Clearly having something to work with in the ecosystem is great, but it doesn't mean you must follow procedure if you don't really need it.
this is by far the most insight tech review i have watched and your words resonates with my daily life so much. thank you sir for putting out such great high quality stuff on this ignorant internet world. those voices need to be heard more
NearbyShare and others are finally catching up. But it took them a while... And that is why macbook + iPhone is so popular.
Really good video. I like the way you talked about such a divisive topic.
Agree with everything you say, i have always used android for mobile os devices but mac for desktop machines, similarly I use Brave browser to sync everything between devices and one drive for sharing.
Cracked the "Ecosystem"s thing man .. keep goin' 🤝
First time watching any of your videos, and I'm already laughing my *ss of at the intro. +1 subscriber, sir.
We need more videos like this.
More mixed ecosystem videos.
Not using ecosystem gives you freedom. Freedom to change whatever device you want. Yes there are problems but I rather have freedom to use my devices my way than they are designed to with certain manner.
Does KDE Connect works on MacOS? You can use that to share files and clipboard between Android and MacOS!
It does. Even better than on Windows since Linux and macOS share the same base.
Windows laptop + 13 Pro owner.
Google Apps + WhatsApp on both laptop and 13 Pro => i don’t need to use any Apple apps.
Snap drop is a fantastic Airdrop replacement if you have an Android. Never had an issue with it.
You throwing the phones is hilarious 😂
Would love an ecosystem comparison. Would love to hear experience of windows device and iPhone
Nice video! Could you do one where you show step by step how to do the Android to MacBook Pro syncing? Would love to see that.
This is the first video that I saw from your channel. Subscribed. You deserve many many more subscribers!
Wow, thanks!
A weird workflow...but it gets me through the day.
that "nobody" sponsor joke got my like lol
@@boasnovasdocampo we appreciate that
I always tell people *xender* it’s available on any os mobile or pc and it can share any type of file without quality loss as long as you’re on the same lan. I use an iPad and a Samsung phone and a pc and I never face any issues if I want to transfer from pc to iPad it’s easy and vice versa with android too basically a universal app or a bridge for all the operating systems .
I want the iPhone/Mac VS Galaxy Phone/Galaxy Book 🔥🔥
I have no clue why you have so few subscribers. I honestly love how you explain things which many prominent and famous tech channels fail to do. (Not talking about the top one tho') Also, the man knows some magic tricks ... anyone notice?
Some work arounds that I use include the clouds. If you're in an office environment and they use Google Drive, you can open your work on the mobile version of Drive and continue on. I also upgraded from an Intel Mac to an M3 Mac, and virtualize Windows 11 on that. Only use it for Windows only apps like Microsoft Access
For texting, I used apps like AirMessage in the event that I was dealing with people who only liked iMessage.
It’s so weird to see Americans talk about I message. We in Europe mostly use WhatsApp, thus never have this issue lol
It works just fine
Also 90% of a time ... Cough a usb c cable is better for file transfer
I do the same setup. I have been using a Macbook Pro and a S20-24 Ultra for years. I have Google for most applications and use Texty for the messaging capability. Plus Microsoft One Drive is the best for all ecosystems. I just cant stop using those beautiful Samsung screens.
@@bushcamo223 those Samsung screens are beautiful indeed
I feel you bro! I have the same setup as yours. I'm on Pixel 8 Pro, pairing with my new MBA M3. No blockers or anything.
Another great video, I'm loving the Bloopers 😅
I love the Nobody sponsorship 😂
Man great tips, this was a great quick setup for getting my Samsung phone and Mac to work together better.
Not sure if you guys have experienced near drop. Its Air drop for Android. Works perfectly with macos.
Love your content man. Please keep it up
Pleasant voice, good quality, good video!
I love your channel man. Hillarious and informative 😅👍👍👍👍
Full on waitin for the comparison video between Android/Windows and iOS/Mac
Same approach for 2 years. MacBook + Samsung + Edge browser + alt.messengers
FTP 😉
I have an M1 Macbook Air and an M2 Mac Mini. Guess what my phone is? An S23 Ultra (soon to be upgraded to S24 Ultra). And I never had any issues with it.
Google photos on the browser is a great way to share and download to your macbook as well.
