Iv put a few more lights on it, a tongue box, hooked up brakes and wired a 7 pin hook up on it and have a winch im putting on it soon. You done a really good job with it and i appreciate it

“I think it turned out pretty well” brother that looks amazing. Even more impressive you got me feeling like I could do the same! Subscribed and can’t wait to see more
Nice job! Trailer turned out really nice. If it's not too late... you might call the seller back and ask him if he'll sell you the winch for the additional $300 you saved. If I'm seeing that right correctly, that looks like a Warn 8274 winch. If it works... it's absolutely worth the $300 (really considerably more). If you pull the winch and restore it (less than $200 for parts), that's a $1000+ winch. Best, one of THE most desirable winches Warn ever built.
That makes a lot of sense. He talked about how good of a winch it was, but it did need some repairs for it to work. Just noticed your profile pic.. he was a jeep guy too haha. Yall woulda got along 😂
Just happened on the video and was going to say, if that's a Warn 8274 or similar those go for like 700-1700 around here. xD Ones that need to be restored are on that low end.
Word of advice, if you are using wet pressure treated lumber you do not need to gap the boards will shrink, this goes for decking and fencing or anything outside, Experience in decks and fences with the states leading builder, we butt up each piece because of shrinking if you gap just a 1/4in it will end up 1/2-3/4in gap...
Rust reformer is a rust inhibitor.. It will neutralize the surface rust from being active.. Its the same as brushing it off to clean metal essentially.. No worries on that unless its scaley rust..

I like one coat of rust reformer, one coat of Rusty red primer (red Oxide) and two coats of enamel. I buy quarts or gallons of Rustoleum or Valspar tractor paint at the hardware store. I add a little mineral spirits, and paint with a brush. The top coats I also add a little hardener. The second brush coat will smooth out most of the rough spots. On a trailer, or other machinery, its not like a car. Brushing forces paint into the corners easier than a spray can does. Probably you can skip the spray on rust reformer, except in special situations.
Next time you need to notch boards, your chop saw should have a depth adjustment by thr hinge, nyy DeWalt has a black tab i flip around on the right side. Nice work!

It may be minute but, I feel like a $300 winch added to that would have increased the price to $3000/3250 for the trailer. Could have added more profit...
Cut and weld on a new support beam... that would be faster/easier wouldn't cost much. I use the same electrical connections and love them. I also heat shrink over them too :)
Some trailers make more profit than others. It's just how that stuff goes. No need to give this guy a hard time. He's earning good money doing a side hustle he enjoys.
Same. Most double axle car haulers in my area have a 7 pin plug since they brakes as well. Idk why that one doesn’t. Previous owner must have made some major modifications and deleted it?
With all the time and effort, It would seem , a bit more economical, to keep the trailer and get a few mechanic fixer uppers to flip! That just me. You did more than the average DIY
Thanks! I was in Burkesville ky. I actually just moved to Florida though so now I’m going to be doing it down here. Started at demolition job too so we’re tearing down multi-million dollar homes now. I’ll still be posting flips but also some demolition as well
To be honest I haven’t wired trailer brakes yet. On my farm I’ve never used them and it’s not required it my state so I didn’t mess with them. But in the future I plan on learning how to wire them and doing it on the trailers I do in the spring. Leaning as I go with this process lol
@@charliefarms1I came here just to comment this. Having working brakes is a huge plus. A trailer that size can fit a pickup, so having the ability to stop that much would be great. Trailer brakes are stupid easy to wire. A ground and a power wire. Also, venture away from the cheap and easy wiring kits. Normally made with cheap wiring, and from the kits I’ve seen, cheap lights. You can run a good 7 pin setup very easily, and if you do it right, the constant 12v power wire can charge a battery that feeds the winch you mount on it. Had you gone that far, easily a 3500 to 4k trailer.
Interesting. So the boards needed to dry out more before being installed? I haven’t run into this issue before. Maybe the lumber was a new shipment or something. Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep it in mind for the future.
Pressure treated boards hold moisture for a few days. As a deck builder we let our boards sit in site and acclimate so we don’t get big old gaps on our 45s.
Lots of new pressure treated lumber is always wet like this it definitely sucks but that's the crap we've been dealing with for a hot minute @@charliefarms1
Your pressure treated lumber is probably a little oversized from the chemical swelling of the pressure treatment. Fresh pressure treated lumber is often up to a .250" thicker than dimensional lumber when it is fresh from the lumber yard
no trailer brakes? i saw the drum on the one axle. i know the empty weight of the trailer is not heavy enough to legally need them but i would never buy a trailer that big that didn't have working trailer brakes. of did you hook them up and i missed it or it got glossed over in video with the light wiring?
I was wondering the same thing about brakes. On a trailer that size, Id want brakes on both axles. Trailer brakes are critical components for hauling a trailer safely. But the number of people who do not understand that is downright scary. Trailer lighting and trailer brakes both need regular inspection and maintenance. While the trailer's lights are important for everyone else on the road, a trailer's brakes are what is gonna keep you from ending up right smack in the middle of a disaster sandwiched between whatever it was you were hauling and whatever you crashed into! Sure, you might get by without them and make it home safe, but it isn't just our own lives we are gambling with when out on the roads. It is downright reckless to not have working brakes on a trailer capable of hauling stuff heavier than a lawn mower.
the new wood is swelled and the old wood was dry when they installed it years agoo we deal with alot at my trailer manufacturing shop when we do service work
They have 3500lb axles so it can hold 7000lbs. The law here in Kentucky says that if the trailer is wider than 82 inches it must have brakes. They are pretty relaxed when it comes to trailers
