  • Video content: avatArikai (introduction) and pAsurams 1-5. துக்கச் சுழலையை (which means the whirlpool of sufferings, from which the Azhvar says he's been released) is the penultimate padigam of Sri Periyazhvar Thirumozhi, the one before his swan song "senniyongu" (covered in another video). It is very personal and poignant, with the Azhvar swearing that he will not let Him go, now that He's entered his body with His suitcase and bed (பெட்டி படுக்கையுடன்). It has strong connections with the last padigam of tiruvAimozhi.
This padigam is a mangaLASAsanam of the divya desam of tirumAliruncholai (known popularly as Azhagar Koil, near Madurai), a hill kshetram often talked about in the same breath as its more famous hill cousin tiruvEngaDam.

Namaskaram. This is a (more or less) unedited recording of a free, online upanyAsam from the series "Prabandhams, Stotrams and Srivaishnavism" being taught to a live audience by Shri. Vijay on behalf of the non-profit Heritage-of-India Classes, operating out of Fremont, CA, USA. The intent is to teach the meaning, appreciation, and chanting of Sri Vaishnavite (Tamil) prabandhams and (Sanskrit) stOtrams. Pictures are supposedly worth a thousand words, so a special effort has been made to explain the meaning with pictures.
Please view or subscribe to the Heritage of India Classes channel to watch the other parts of this padigam or stotram, as well as other padigams/stotrams.
The adage "கற்றது கையளவு, கல்லாதது உலகளவு" (What I know is just a handful, what I don't is the size of the universe) applies particularly splendidly to us, so please forgive us for any errors.
If there is any good in these lessons, we dedicate it to the memory of the blessed souls of Sri. T. Pitchumani, Smt. P. Choodamani, and Sri. Arasanipalai V. Srinivasan, who have inspired us to undertake this kainkaryam.
To attend the free, online Heritage-of-India upanyAsams live (from any time zone), please contact the email address of "hoiclasses" at the domain of gmail.com.
We prostrate at the feet of all who have imparted knowledge to us, knowingly or unknowingly. And also at the feet of all adiyArs, AchAryAs, and Sriman nArAyaNan.
