A Tribute to Red and Cream - BBC News 2000

20 years ago (give or take) BBC News re-branded with a very modern, and very refreshing visual and musical design. It was partly the inspiration for me to learn design and motion graphics.
Inspired by a friend who also decided to re-create that original design, I decided to create this tribute to that classic design, all be it with some tweaks and updates for today's resolution and technology.

10 May 1999 (21 years ago), the BBC News presentation went rebrand with red and cream colours, replacing the orchestra theme and virtual studio.

The BBC countdown started to go through the world to express its global iconic news.

I can't believe it but tonight I had a massive nostalgic moment, thinking back when I would finish my late shift 20 years ago, flicking this on and listening to the music, sometimes waiting for the formula One to come on. Looks amazing on current´s 4K large TV’s. This red and creme era from 1999-2003 should return back. The current theme is too long. Nothing changed from 2008.

The 1999 music was analog based, whereas the current theme is digital production based, according to the composer who was kind enough to get back to me quickly when I emailed. But the huge problem is the graphics - when the entire screen goes red there's nothing you can do with hearing the audio - it all sounds just terrible because seeing red the entire screen is not something that any viewer can really take - the seeing red on the whole screen overloads the red receptor in the brain and it's left millions of viewers angry who stare at the red even for a short while. Probably the BBC production staff are driven mad too. I have contacted the BBC to change the colour, all that happened is after shouting at them on the phone the colour scheme changed from jets of blood red to red and rainbow colours. The blood red BBC logo upsets me.
