Well folks there it is, after just under 5 years since I uploaded the video, the target of 1 million views has been reached. Thanks for all the comments that you like this. I only did it for a bit of fun but never thought it would reach this milestone...let’s see how far this could go into the future :)
I remember when this theme first aired, I emailed the BBC and asked if it was available to purchase. They replied no and that it was specially written for the news program. Anyway, about 8 months later I got an email out of the blue from the BBC saying that due the high number of enquiries they had received for the music, they were releasing a CD of the song with variations included. Of course I immediately agreed to buy a CD and it still sits happily in my music collection to this day. I thought it was really neat that they kept a record of my original email and reached out to all the others who had likely enquired about it as well.
I love how news themes sound Epic, inspiring and interesting but also have a darkness and urgency to them so that whatever the story the music is appropriate
This sound is very nostalgic to me. I am transported back to a time during my childhood, sitting in the living room on a weekday after sunset, watching the news with my parents. Those were good times.
When i play this at the gym on my phone and i put my phone on floor and people pass by and see BBC news and im wearing my headphones and training hard directly give me a look of whats wrong with you, who trains while listening to news!!! And i dont know if im weird or not but this music motivates me and it makes me lift heavy weights
Love this news theme. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It reminds me of the days before 24/7 news coverage of watching the daily news bulletin or a newsflash appearing on screen. Great piece of music.
Over ten years ago I went to work in Kiev and it took forever to get someone to set up satellite cable and all I had in my flat was some wretched local cable but it had the BBC. I kept the BBC on at night as a sort of sonic wallpaper and 'Countdown' and the pips and the 'swooshes' and those very English horns - well, I felt a contact with the distant West while sunk in the wild, wild East. Then one day when driving by in a company car I saw a film crew taping on the Kreschatik and it was a famous BBC reporter that, at the time, I saw on the news almost every other night. Dressed in nothing more than a sports jacket with a scarf - in February! - and I almost told the driver to stop, so strong was my urge to leap out and just give the wee man a slobbering kiss of gratitude. To this day I frequently listen to the umpteen versions of Countdown I have bookmarked, after a vodka or two. Or three.
Now *that* is something. As for me, I wouldn't have the option of switching to porn and explaining it more easily, because I never really got into that type of thing.
The whole 'club mix' thing amuses me. The thought of people inside a club dancing their tits off to this awesome theme. Them being so spannered on drugs and thinking 'surely I'm not dancing to the BBC news theme', taking a moment to consider whether it's just them who's recognised it - and thinking, perhaps I shouldn't take that extra E;) Anyway. Awesomeness all around!!!!
Hypnotic rythm, hear for maybe 20 years now and still so good, always available and ticking 24/24H worldwide 365 days to show us the whole world happening, with a sense of urgency and passion. Great song !
I see very little pro-Palestian coverage at all, maybe in the past but these days pretty much none. Max Keiser supposedly left the BBC primarily because of internal censorship: twitter.com/maxkeiser/status/495984703284199425?lang=en-gb
