Okay so what I am seeing, is do NOT purchase these if you already own HO batteries and are happy with them. These are for people who need to upgrade anyways, buy batteries for crews, or just like having the newest toys.
I love my HO batteries, and would LOVE to see Milwaukee make a 12.0 with these to cut down on the size and weight.
Thank you for what you do Vince!
*_Thanks for watching Philip!_*
My understanding is that most of the smaller M18 tools simply don't have motors that can make use of the extra power yet.
The 12AH Forge is NOT using Li-Po (pouch lithium), it's using Tabless cells, like from Tesla's battery day. They can theoretically output about 5x the wattage for the same heat (heat is always the limiting factor in batteries). Li-Po can also output more power, so I expect 36v tools like the lawnmower to be remade supporting single-battery Forge at some point in the near future.
Every dollar certainly counts. But I’m thinking I ll save in not having to buy as many new batteries. Plus less charge time = more production time.
Really good tests. Thanks for your work Vince.
Thanks Jesse!
Like you said Vince, for 20 bucks more you get a much better and improved battery and the recharge cycle much higher, in the end you get what you paid for. And if you cannot afford one you can always buy the original one. It's nice to have options.
I have 4, 3.0
2, 6.0
2, 12.0
that was a lot of money and I sue them daily hence why all the batteries usually enough to run 2 3.0 slap them on the rapid charger and then be able to swap out the two. If people wanna rush out and drop dough on a slightly new let system and a “matching” super charger go for it but my batteries of “old” work just fine and untill they break/can’t hold a charge I’m not rushing out to buy more batteries (forged)
It’s not a $20 difference though. Only low IQ people are paying $180 for a high output 6.0. I got some four packs of 6.0 high outputs from Home Depot for $329, so about $80 a battery. They won’t run those kinds of deals on forge batteries for many years.
Great and honest comparison. Thank you Vince
Glad you enjoyed it Ron, thanks!
Vince is such an Italian contractor it’s honestly hilarious 😂 I love this guy
Nice. The gains in the Hammer drill were modest over the HO pack, but a little less weight and more charge cycles is a good improvement.
Great point!
The problem is they were minor gains over the six amp, our high output, and these are supposedly on par with the 12 amp hour as far as power output goes, which didn’t appear to be the case here and on top of that the 12HO’s obviously still have twice the runtime so… what on earth are we doing here? Kind of feels like a Sharknado movie but with marketers instead of sharks
Just got an insane deal on the 2 xc 6.0 high output battery starter kit that comes with the charger and the 2 batteries. It was usually $300 and I got it on sale for $210. I’d be stupid if I passed up that deal 🤷🏽♂️ thanks VCG for tool deals and reviews!! @VCG Construction
I like the Forge battery indicator looks good Blacked out on the front Suprised Milwaukee started using pouch cell's
The larger the demand of the tool, the more you'll see Forge come out on top. If you run bigger tools, it will become a must have.
@vcg construction thx for vid Vince and excited for the “other battery” coming from Milwaukee and the “special” stuff coming along after that which we can’t talk about, aren’t lawyers great 😉
I’m just curious to see how things turn out when everything is released.
Cheers✌🏻
It has the same power, not run time. Indeed Milwaukee did kinda make that unclear
Excellent test and assessment . I'm gonna get the new forge primarily for the new technology and longevity of the battery over time.
Looking forward to getting your thoughts on the battery… can’t wait to see the content you make!
I now have switched completely from dewalt. I now own the fuel vacuum , gen 4 impact driver , gen 4 hammer drill , hackzall and side grinder. With 2 5ahs , 1 forge , 2 2ahs lol loving milwaukee so far
Forge batteries seem a good bang for the buck in my opinion especially for the larger Life span
Good review! Good feedback! Great Shirt!
Glad you enjoyed it
These new batteries are fantastic they will save my time and money greetings from Finland
Hello Finland, hope everything is well in your part of the world! 👍🏻
@@VCGConstruction Thank you for sure. Thanks to your blogs, it's always up to date, greetings 😁😁😁
thanks for a nice and fair test 👍
No problem 👍
Thanks, boss. I have to replace my hd12. Now I know what to get. Even if it is 6AH instead of 12AH, it is worth it.
Nice video, i preorder from day one 2 of the forge batteries i look foward to test them i know some guy on youtube and instagram already got theirs hands on a packout box with the forge and supercharger but nobody seem to do video on them yet except shoptool review and wow that gen 3 wrench is a freak
Thanks for the info!
I have m12 5.0 high output battery and love it.
You should compare them in the vacuum. That should show which one lasts longer.
These new Forge batteries seem like a nice improvement, more charge cycles and slightly more power. However, it looks like it is slightly smaller than the HO 6 amp battery. That is kind of disappointing. I thought that one of the main benefits of these pouch cell batteries was a significant reduction in weight and size.
3:21 not sure what's happening here but it looks like the high output battery is going through the second 2x4 instantly on both of these tests, almost like there was a hole on the other side of the second board.
Yup. And when he used the forge and drill bit, he pushed sideways to kill the bit
I love battery comparisons, now cordless tools are so powerful that the main difference of them are really the batteries. I'm recently thinking about upgrading to High Output series since I got a new High Torque series 1/2....The forge battery looks promising, but the price kind of set me back for now.
I can get a week's run time with the 8ah & 12ah batteries, plus Milwaukee are 💩 bad build, chinsy plastic and plastic gear boxes.
When they were owned by AEG/Atlas Copco they brilliant.
I'd say get the high output batteries, they make a really big difference! But get them on sale, or when they come free with a tool you need.
@@marccadec6978Milwaukee does not have a plastic gear box idk who told you that

Thanks dude whenever i have a question about Milwaukee i come to your channel i know you don’t bs and give us the truth.
I appreciate that
Off topic but what boots/shoes are those? I'm looking for a new pair and those seem comfortable and compact compared to the higher boots I've used in the past
I currently use the M18 Fuel Attachment Trimmer with Quik-Lok (2825-20) and M18 Fuel Blower (2724-20) with M18 High Output XC 6.0. If I upgrade to M18 Forge XC 6.0, will I see a performance improvement with either of these tools?
Lastly, I am aware that the M18 Forge XC 12.0 is in development. Do you know if a compact version of the M18 Forge XC, ranging from 1.5 - 3.0, will be introduced?
Good battery test I have a few thousand in Milwaukee tool love them.
Thank you!
I have the money to spend and most Milwaukee users do as well. Im not a fan of pouch batteries tho. I have the option and im sticking with 21700 cells 💪
Last comment.
I’d grab a forge battery for the tools it just makes sense running them in, meaning high output, high demand, and high performance tools; otherwise, imo, normal m18 battery just fine for probably 80-90% of time or can go HO XC batteries as well, and then if need the Forge batteries ya can se em….options, pretty nice and also would be nice if pricing would reflect little better; as MILW kinda did a slick move when new packout drawers landed w/ pricing on prior 2 and 3 drawer packouts to make pricing for new drawer packouts to “make sense” I guess 🤔 (I’d personally like em to go in a different way, but ok…..lol); so will be interesting to see if new forge batteries make any difference w/ pricing at all, or things stay same w/ more options and prices are what they are. Do like that batteries should LAST LONGER for charge cycles on pouch lithium compared to cylindrical cells, so that’s a plus, but I’m curious to see real world data of ppl using the forge batteries in colder temps, as we know lithium batteries don’t like it too cold, or too hot; they prefer it “just right”….😂
✌🏻
What battery would you use or recommend for the Milwaukee off power supply? I obviously want to get the longest run time to charge my phone and other electronics but don't want to spend to much money
Nice vid vince. Enjoyed it. Looks like the way forward for me. Using the bigger draw tools you can see quite a difference. Maybe not so much if your just using small hammers and impacts all day, but the life of the battery also makes it a winner. Would love to see how it does in the hole dozer . Smashing out 4 inch plus holes. Im sure you would see a big benefit there too.
The best part of this video was fair comparison 👌🏻 good job on that
I prefer to skip on these batteries for some time, till they are proven to last longer, then I will be ready to pay a bit more for a longer life cycle
Thanks Mohammad, glad you enjoyed the video.
@VCGConstruction your content is always enjoyable 😍
Lmfao Vince your reaction 4:25 😂
🤣 that’s what not using the handle gets me!
I still grab my Gen 3 impact and drill over Gen 4 as Gen 3 still great tools and get job done, plus like my Surge and still going strong for me. Did get little annoying w/ Gen 4 hammerdrill when autostop would turn off tool for my “benefit” at times when just needed tool to go and wasn’t in any danger; far as wrist breaking, etc….maybe battery and tool and the magic inside weren’t getting along and decided to fight it out, lol, but Gen 4 are still good powerful tools; but sometimes just don’t need all that power, imo…..
Yeah right, 8:05 BRING ON THE POWER⚡️⚡️
Do like new batteries as pricing should change up a little, hopefully in user favor
Very Cool Vince 😎 👌🏾
Thanks Jamal!
You guys should check out the torque test channel on the new forge batteries you can see it bigger power difference making the circular saw vs. The impact and hammer drill
I want to know if she will overheated upon like a grinder or table saw or chainsaw
Ya Dewalt came out with the pouch battery first for tools said it was lighter and more power 50% more power 25 % smaller and 15 % lighter
I only buy my Milwaukee batteries in kits. So whether or not I get the forged batteries will depend on what is offered in which kits.
Do it Project Farm style and use a torque meter with those drills and see if the Forged battery really makes the tool stronger.
When you cut through the top flange on the I-beam you held the blade at a much shallower angle on the HO than you did with the Forge. That adds about 5-6 minutes to the cut time , make the tests even please. I have 5 Forge so far as I replace older batteries and they are not a 20% torque improvement on the Super Sawsall. I did the same test at home with an I-beam with a 10" web and saw about a 10% improvement.
I saw these 6.0 ah forge battery on sale for labor day deals at home depot
I charge my phone once a day. It seems that my cell phone battery loses battery life after about a year or so... I'm curious about the three times as long battery life??
You are doing something wrong, I also charge my phones once a day and they last over three years, no problem
Not trying to be rude at all. But I just don’t think you explained it very well. The 6 ah m18 forge battery will run as long as a regular m10 6ah battery but have to power of a m18 12ah battery . Is that correct? Wish they would come out with something like that for their M 12 line.
Yes. The Forge battery flows power into the tool the in same way/rate as the 12.0 battery does. The 12.0 still has about double the run time of the 6.0.
@@MrSubaru1387nice to see you cuzbo, thanks for jumping in here! 👍🏻
If they add an extra year to the forge battery on the warranty imo That sells a longer life battery .
Any videos showing a charge cycle test? The HO Batteries don’t last as long as I would like so I think that hold a lot of value
I'd like to see Milwaukee put out a pouch lithium pack in the cp 2.0 casing so we can still have a compact option but a little better tech. I thought about buying cp 3.0 but I prefer the size of the 2.0 for my impact driver!!!
I like a lean impact too, but I run the 3.0 ho on my Milwaukee impacts. I considered the size to be negligible.
Yea I really like the 2.0 size for almost everything when I’m on a latter, when I’m on the ground I’ll go for the bigger size.
H/o 3.0 is close to 2.0 I have a old xc 3.0 same size as the 5.0 basically
The HO 3.0 is substantially heavier than the 2.0. Much closer to 5.0 weight.
Agreed those 2.0 r awesome so light
Well at this point in time I'm looking towards 3ah HO m18 for more light weight on my impact drill. Since it is a drill I can get away with not using my heavier 5.0 and save them for the hackall and saws.
Every dollar does count I try to buy all my tools when on sale I’ve only bought a few batteries the rest came with tools from deals I’m waiting to see if they do deals with the forge
I do maintainence for a school district. Sometimes when installing things into concrete or block, my hammer drill will time out after doing about 2 holes. Then after it sits for a bit, it will drill again, but won't even get through 1 hole. It sure is annoying.
my battery chainsaw is the same but it is harbor freight and kind get what you pay for.
I do wonder how it would perform on quick lok string trimmer and other ope equipment?
The string trimmer is one of the power hungriest tools they make. I notice a difference between 8.0HO and 12.0HO with it, ESPECIALLY partway through use, so a forge battery would definitely make a difference.
Nice video
Smaller, lighter, and more charge cycles! No brainer. I’m looking forward to the new 12ah tab-less battery!
*_has me curious!?_*
They should have also used tabless cells here, would be better in every way. They are just being cheap...
Id say if u need to replace a old battery spend the extra 20. What tools can use the extra power will enjoy it the ones that will benefit from the little bit of extra run time youll enjoy it
It sure makes sense to me to go w/ the Forge batteries, but only when my H.O.s wear out. Thanks for letting us know the difference.
I have a bunch of milwaukee tools...forge batteries give more torque, out performs all my snapon and dewalts and matco tools...its worth it , depending on what you need it for...especially in automotive
They should have come out with a 12ah or 10ah FLEX has a solid array of sizes still walking on Milwaukee for options
Very few people care about flex. Myself included.
Now do the M18 fuel circular saw for the battery comparison
Would honestly be more interested in a compact version of this, something in the size of their 2/3Ah battery with the run time/power of a 8ah high output
Yeah, I would love to see if they could make a 2.0 Ah and see how it is for a sheet metal screw gun.
I noticed a difference with my high torque half-inch impact, but I still think the old 9.0 delivered more power
I use my Milwaukee hammer drill with an Eskimo pistol bit during ice fishing season you wanna talk about a stress test try that with some other brands
OK, so I’m not into construction. I work on cars out of my own house so I’m not really sure what I wanna do here so my question to you would be I have an M18 1/2 dr compact gun and my question is will that forge battery increase the torque of that gun and I’m referring to breakaway torque
And it’s a little more than a $20 difference
Very very nice 👍
So nice like Jinerson…. Thanks
Nice
Thanks
Love the content, guys!
You think the forge is helpful on the mid-torque?
I honestly don’t know but I can test it out!
They spin em quicker, and the run time is longer, not sure if they actually have more ft lbs.
Yes
I would definitely replace my batteries with these but not just go out and get them.
afraid to drop cash on 6ah forge when 12ah forge is probably right around the corner.
I thought the 12 AH battery because I want the better runtime, I think the 12 AH is a better investment.
Now if they ever come out with a 12 AH forge…
Got to prove it self first on charge cycles
Talk about life span yet I've still some of the old m18 batteries when the red milwaukee text was on front and less rubber protection on them still going strong and outlasted all my new batteries and highoutput batteries soo..explain that 🤷 god knows how old they are now but still going strong 💪
I would avoid pouch cells myself ... Mostly all of them end up expanded or even worse, "exploded"
Need these in a 12Ah option for my OPE.
15AH for da mower would be nice!
this is an add for Diablo blades lol
Sometimes I'm just gettin more mad in UK they re not available to get same was with track saw , heartbreaking 😂
Looks like the 2x4 on the bottom has a hole in it went through the second one way to fast almost like it fell through instead of cut through
Should do the test with the WHOLE HOGG DRILL I have one and soon has I get the FORGE battery then I will test it on my RUclips channel
Is pouched technology actually batter? Pouched batteries are more fragile. They do swell like in laptops and phones. I am guessing Forge has multiple pouches stacked. If 1 swells, there will be major issues. Personally I never encountered standard round cells swell. Die sure, but never swelled. But I have like a dozen old pouch cell batteries from phones, tablet, and laptop that I had to replace due to swelling.
You are correct, they would have been better of with 21700 tabless. Lipos suck...
Both Milwaukee and Dewalt need to offer more amp hours for their pouch cell packs.
Its not much different than the regular to ho upgrade in terms of power out. When the tools motor output was the limit, it changed nothing. When the battery voltage drop and current output is the limit, it lets the tool ramp more.
Seeing a home made 12ah forge battery (2 in parallels) running a fuel drill overheat the motor because theres more power than the motor can dissipate tells me the battery tech, based on current tools, is starting to max out their designs and software is becoming the name of the game.
In testing the forge batteries have even less voltage drop than a 12ah, which means not only more torque, but it will burn through the 6ah capacity faster as its quite literally moving more energy since the voltage is higher
It looks like a cool upgrade if you have a bunch of 6.0s that you have to recharge a lot. For $50 more dollars, you get 12.0 and I would assume fewer charges, which negates the benefit of the 6.0 Forge having more recharges. I'm sure my math is skewed with 2x the AH vs 3-4x recharges.
the problem is they are too big and awkward for the smaller tools. the 12ah is mainly for the chop saw, chainsaws, etc.
Even on an impact or drill, i think forge or HO 6.0 are way too big. Theyre better reserved for higher powered tools like sawzalls, circ saw, hammer drill, cordless chop saws etc. Especially if those are used daily...if those big tools are used once in a while i think you can get away with even a smaller battery like 5.0s or 3.0 HO.
I didn’t even have HO batteries till last week
If only they used new tabless 21700 cells like they out in the new mx fuel packs, they would have 8ah instead of 6ah and even more power.
Now run this back between power stack and flex batteries
Less downtime charging = more uptime in my saws and drills. $$$
Also, if Milwaukee is correct, and the Forge batteries last 1,500 charging cycles, that’s 3x more than the standard. So fewer dead batteries in the end, and less downtime. Makes it worthwhile compared to the regular 6.0s
Do you really need 6.0s in your drills and impacts though?
If these batteries came out 5 years ago I'd be on board, but with the way the supply chain fell apart I'm not buying that these things will last as long as stated. Actually, I'd bet money they won't.
Hey Vince they say that the 6amp. Forge is as powerful as the 12 you should make comparison the 6 and the 12 run test see how it goes on price comparison the forge 6 its $199 and Milwaukee 12 am it's $250 it's worth get new technology it's is you're saving $50 that's pretty good I think 💬 🤔 Milwaukee is caching up with DeWalt flex and eggo they have new technology ove battery that's goo Vince that Milwaukee moving up that's good!!
I have a bunch of 8ah high output batteries with several dead cells and they didn't start dieing till i started using them on The m18 fuel Weedeater I need to get 21700 cells to repair the Batteries no longer under warranty
Wow Antonio, why won’t they cover the batteries under warranty?
@@VCGConstruction no idea there Only 6 months old 12 of them are 8ah batteries and 4 of them are 12ah batteries there all 6 months old none of them had any issues on other tools but when i started using them on the m18 fuel string trimmer they all started losing cells to the point they only charge to 1 bar now and Milwaukee refused to replace them or even fix them so now I have a bunch of useless batteries that are only good for using on Small tools
That doesn’t sound good Antonio, sorry cuzbo!
@@VCGConstruction that's Life Cuz Something always goes wrong
I am a Tesla owner and are highly involved in information and education on battery technology in the lithium ion realm. These batteries are a little smaller than the equivalent cylindrical because the cylindrical has wasted space between cells which in our teslas, is not a factor because that is used for cooling channels which results in them being cooled more efficiently than bottom or top with prismatic/pouch. Most of the other cars have much more failures, shorter life, and more fires which contain the prismatic/pouch versus the cylindrical in a Tesla. The other startups also use cylindrical like tesla. Cylindrical is also less costly to make and as I said, have proved themselves as the more reliable better choice. I would not want to buy these batteries due to the fact that they use the pouch/prismatic. Some teslas are using pouch/prismatic now and are reliable, but that is because of Teslas effective bms and thermal control. In a cordless tool however you do not have thermal control nor do you often have effective bms management. Pouch/prismatic would be ok in my opinion in an ev with proper control, but not in a tool battery On top of it, I had bought prior outdoor tools which used prismatic/pouch and half of the batteries have expanded/blown up and have failed as a result of leaving them in the shed etc exposed to the varied temperatures. I am getting rid of and retiring all of those tools also because the tools have issue. I actually can use them with m18 batteries with an adapter if I really wanted. All of my m18 batteries (cylindrical) have lived their life in truck with varied temperatures and not one has had an issue over a decade or more. I have dozens of m18 and m12 batteries. I WOULD NEVER TOUCH THESE PACKS WITH PRISMATIC. IT IS A MISTAKE THAT MILWAUKEE IS USING THEM. I BET IT WILL BE A FAILURE NIGHTMARE OR THE BATTERIES WILL NOT LAST AMONG OTHER ISSUES.

It didn’t seem like the investment in high output batteries had really paid off any where near what milwaukee sold us on, so ok sure…Maybe it last longer…but how does it have as much power output as a 12 if it’s not even decisively beating 6HO’s.
And lastly, we all know before these batteries die milwaukee will have a new battery tech to sell us on so I’m not concerned with the lifecycles.
I just want the most powerful, most compact, most well made tools…and they can save all the marketing money and invest in the tools instead that would be great.
