I know the 2LT came with upgraded FE3 suspension, 2.4 litre engine.
The SS was not 5 speed manual only, many were ordered with the automatic transmission.
The SS only was available in 2008, 2009,2010. The SS panel was only built in 2009, 216 were built. Also in 2009 you could order the AA5 package, commonly called a half panel, the quarter windows were solid metal, the rear door had windows. Only 199 of these were built.
I’ve owned an HHR LS out 486,000 miles on it. It’s still going strong, I bought a 2011 2LT and have 160,000 miles on it.
So, they are fun to drive, last a long time with maintenance. Thanks for your time!

Someday this will be a classic and be worth some money being that it was made for a short period of time.

I bought a 2007 Panel and put 264 K miles on it before I totaled it hitting a deer. Zero mechanical problems. Bought a 2008 Panel in 2017 with 165K. I put 294k on it with zero problems till the rear main seal started leaking. Put a Jasper engine in it and drive it all over the southeast. I’ve got way too much in it, but I love that car.

2009 HHR LT bought new and its at 279,000 miles today. In the mountains its hard on front rotors, 2 sets of VVT Camshaft Timing, has only had one 4 wheel alignment, never has worn tires. Lower control arms once, and a additional set of ball joints, A/C pump replaced once. Castrol 5W30 conventual since new and does not use oil in between changes. Exhaust Manifold has failed twice, putting a Stainless Steel header currently.

these are great cars, I bought a 2006 2.4l LT metallic charcoal / chrome trim for my teen daughter 3 years ago, for $4500, it had been garage kept and was in new condition even though it had 136k on it. my daughter loved it cause she's very short and tiny and it fit her way better than the explorer 4x4 I initially bought for her, which my tall son now drives and loves. 2 months ago with 162k miles on it she (20 yo now) was helping one of her friends move way in the country and to make a long story short she drug and damaged the oil pan on a very rough driveway (low clearance / no skid plate) and ran it out of oil and locked it up. I actually was able to get it running again but the damage was done and compression rings were shot. well this is the worst time ever to buy a car, and weighing my options decided to just buy a used engine and also trans while I was at it with just 94k miles on the set, I also went ahead and replaced radiator, hoses and bought low mileage used alt. and starter, new water pump, new headlights (orig. went cloudy), new tranny fluid and filter (liqui-molly)and several other preventative items, in all another $5500 invested which sounds crazy, but we are living in crazy times now, it was much cheaper (about 3x) to do this than to buy another vehicle with a lil less age and same miles (94k). everybody is happy again and knows how an oil light works ;). I have no doubts this car will go another 100k no problem and I could probably sell it today if I had too and get what I got in it to someone who appreciates these cars. Here's my pro/con list from an actual owner and experience.
Pro: 30-35 MPG, good drive and ride, it actually accelerates decent but you really don't feel any tork. VERY mechanically sound, almost on par with Japanese dependability, I think its taking a classic look now and I believe demand may very well go up on them, very good quality paint. a lot of cargo room for a small vehicle. I now have an extra tranny (I had just recently serviced 2k miles prior lol) and also kept old radiator, alt. & starter for future repairs. ALL FAN comments, absolutely no haters!
cons: control arm bushings!!, door speakers, plastic firewall cover that rots and leaks it hvac and passenger floorboard, I know this because this is what I had to do before the oil pan incident. however the speakers, and firewall cover are simple DIY projects that have plenty of youtube how too's to help. The power window switches are oddly placed low on center console, not that big of a deal once you get used to it, but still find myself reaching for the door to lower window lol. After engine replacement I did have some very crazy electrical problems pop up immediately but my awesome mechanic was able to quickly resolve by simply removing the power distribution module and clean all wiring harness and relay connections real good with electro contact cleaner and that resolved all issues that poped up, luckily it happend when I picked it up from the rebuild (nothing he had too touch BTW) but he fixed it for free right then & there while I watched ;). It actually sounds more daunting than it is, PDM is very easy to get to and I now could DIY if need too again and it could probably be the source of the reported electrical problems, which I had none before rebuild.
When pricing cars before I decided to replace the engine, there were no good HHR's for sale within 250mi. of me!! none that weren't absolutely used and abused / wrecked, people are hording them now, like me!
BTW I'm not a chevy fan at all, had a 2000 Savannah van, horrible vehicle, swore them off but this one is a very good vehicle, I'll probably keep this car after she's done with it.

I replaced it with 2008 which has just about every option short of an SS, and it's an automatic. Not as much fun as the stick, but... And at 3100 lbs or so, it tows very well behind the RV.

I bought my 2006 with 135k on it in 2015. I have the 2.4l engine. No idea why they cancelled this because it's been an excellent vehicle. Then again, I know how to maintain my vehicles, I have a very short commute (it's not my only vehicle) and I don't drive like a fool. It now has 205k on it. I'll be shooting for 300k and higher. I've replaced the starter twice - 3 bolts, plug-n-play. The door handles are plastic crap. The radio pops on when you use the turn signal if you have it powered off - weird setup there. There are other minor issues. I do my own oil changes, brakes, O2 sensors, etc. I can find parts at the local junk yard since it's basically the same car as a few other Chevys. The only thing I seriously don't like is is the thin body metal dents if you look at it too hard, and the holes for the moon roof drains are ridiculously small, requiring frequent cleaning. Nothing else in this size range can carry as much cargo, and I don't know of any other SUV that has a fold-forward front passenger seat. I can actually fit a 10ft kayak in it with the rear lift door almost closed.

I have had such a good experience with Chevrolet that I bought me a 2020 Chevy Malibu LT with only 21 miles on it. No problem whatsoever with it. I have a 2011, and it's great. You can get cop car suspension on these, body kits, turbos, you name it ( the auto tranny won't like a turboed 2.2). I'm betting these will be collectable and in car shows soon. I know they are now, but I mean they will get more desirable like the Supra and Miata did, but for different reasons. It's WAY better than a PT Cruiser, which is really what it compared to, not a Nissan Cube or XB. Well I guess tuner guys and gals will like these too, so yeah, I think they will go WAY UP in price soon. 🤑

My thought is even though the Chain was worn, the Front guide Snapped in the Cold allowing enough slack to jump several teeth bending all 8 intake valves.
Cost of DIY repair, including Rebuilt head - $650. Should be good for another 100k, I hope.

In Dec 2021, during a nationwide search of CarGuru's, I found an 09 HHR with 25,900mi on it. An LT2 or 2LT with every option, 2 owner garage kept, in Seattle and I'm in Charlotte. $9,850. Flew there, bought it, drove it home via the Pacific Coast Hwy, sea trials, preemptively replaced some 13yr old parts. Love it. 32mph highway. I sleep, camp in mine, on trips. The HHR wrecks on CoPart, show many with over 200k miles. One thing I don't like 1,000rpms = 27mph, so 3,000 rpm's = 3,000 rpms. My Chevy trucks rum 40mph per 1,000 rpms. So, HHR runs fast rpms at highway speeds.

I have owned my 2008 Chevy HHR (High Heritage Roof) for several years now and it was designed by the same person that designed the PT Cruiser after He left Chrysler which is no other than Bryan Nesbitt Himself and if you would have checked your facts it was design was inspired by the late 40's to early 50's of the Chevrolet Suburban. I have had no problems with my HHR other than one recall with the ignition switch which was the cause of them quit running or not wanting to start, but that was taken care of by the dealership before I took ownership of it all I have ever done to it is to have it serviced oil changes tune ups and new tires and brakes the previous owners used it to tow behind their RV so at the time it had low miles on it and not all those miles are from running the engine it is now 14 years old and only has 118,000 miles on it and body wise it is in great shape and I plan on keeping it for a long time. So next time you wish to talk about a vehicle get in it and drive it for more than just a day or so and get the real facts about it not all of the HHR's are as bad as you say they are and there are some points you missed on buying a basic and the options of the equipment you could get with them.

I have a 2011 HHR Panel one of the last ones ever made. It has done good by me I use it as a daily driver. I get some strange looks but I don't care it is a good car. I have driven box trucks all over the country so the panel version doesn't bother me any. I have noticed some things going as far as electrical but it is usually when I leave something plugged into the charging ports for too long and the battery starts to go down but nothing major mine is the 2011 after they fixed a lot of the issues. I take mine on a lot of long trips and it does fine. I have even used it as a camping vehicle at campgrounds.

Great video. Had a 2006. I sold to my Bass Player and he’s still driving it. Just stupid little problems. Decided recently to buy a 2008 only one previous owner and I can tell you it’s like the car is possessed. it seems like it’s all boiling down to the body control module (BCM) which controls everything. Chevrolet no longer sells or programs these things. You can find them pretty cheap, but to program them is very expensive and if you. Don’t have the original one. Nobody wants to program/clone without it. Good luck in finding somebody at a reasonable price. It can be done, but you’re gonna pay through the nose 😢

2007 model. LS Have had electrical problems from the start, although bought used, with low mileage (23,000m), as a "program car", in 2008.
Then a recall on the ignition switch. Otherwise been a good car/"SUV", but must BABY them. 100+k miles, now. Still ticking. No major repairs. Only extremely minor ones.
Did my own "tune up", which is fairly easy. Has been running a wee bit rougher, before and after (less quiet, noticeable only when idling). 🙏

I just bought a used ss model with a manual because I knew how to drive one and it serves as theft deterrent because most in the US don't even know what that is, you can roll it off if the battery is low so you don't have to find something to jump it off with and repairs are much cheaper without the automatic transmission costing about the same as an engine replacement. The manual lets your control the turbo boost a bit better and although no a true sports car it zips about pretty quickly for what it is.

if you bought it with high mileage and the previous owner neglected to maintain the vehicle you are going to inherit the problems. good thing is that they are easy to bring back into shape but you gonna need a trustworthy mechanic.

I have a 2006 hhr es. It's a fun car to own. But it's had some headaches!!! I've replaced the starter twice. Tail light keeps going out. The turn light handle broke. I've replaced both front door handles. And last but not least the actuator fan. And the front end shakes when I slow down. I'm almost at the point where I just take everything out, and set this car on fire!!!

    • @elxion1

Get new handles from Amazon for like $7-$10, front end shakes because these have issues with warped rotors I replaced these in my wife’s 2011 hhr very easy job fixes those issues. Haven’t had the other issues yet but I like em they’re pretty solid.

Replace front pads and rotors. Normal maintenance item, all vehicles do this. Stop buying the cheap light bulbs spend time money and get the name brand bulbs.

The Panel Truck version is a completely different body with solid side doors (no outside handles) and solid body behind the doors!!
