I had a 2010 HHR. It was the only thing I could get with my credit score. The only positive I can say about it is, that it help improve my score for a better vehicle.
This is the definition of damning by faint praise.
the better car was a convertible pt cruiser wasn't it?
If you look, you can usually always find an old, well-maintained Honda or Toyota that can be picked up for $1000 - $1500 and will be more reliable, and cheaper and easier to maintain, than any GM you can finance
You don't deserve to drive one. Glad it got rid of you.
Was it reliable?

"I'm aware there's an HHR SS, but we're not gonna talk about that right now."
*talks about suburbans in WWII*
He meant the ssr total different car
No he meant the HHR SS
internet internet but isn’t Mr. Regular white?
I'm glad he did talk about historical suburbans from 1940
It's more interesting. The hhr ss is just an old car that is fast and has build ability. Why you would ever want one above anything else is something you'll have to figure out yourself.
looks like a fake version of a pt cruiser in a gta game
Maybe that's why I like my HHR so much.... I'm a GTA fanatic. Lol.
😂
Wesley Corder the guy who designed the PT Cruiser also designed the HHR. Even the window controls being on the center console was c/p from the PT. Hell I want to say those interior door handles are the same but I don’t know for sure
That because the HHR is in the GTA game.
@@RobCamp-rmc_0, the window controls for the PT Cruiser are above the radio in 2 rows of 2, in the HHR their below the radio in one row of 4
Reviewing this car automatically means you have to review the SSR now
i had to google it, i wish i didnt... :(
JP3 Why? Despite its looks, it's just about as close as you can get to a modern ute in the USA.
truckyeah.jalopnik.com/how-australias-coolest-little-truckets-are-showing-up-1557594577
because im not from the usa..
JP3 Doesn't matter. The SSR needs to be looked at through the lens of the place that it was sold, the USA and Canada. If you take the car out of its context, it is meaningless. If it were sold in Australia, where Utes are commonplace, it would be awful, but in the USA with a completely different context, it is something other than awful.
That and the Subaru Baja I suppose.
My family and I rented one of these on a family vacation. My family isn't a bunch car enthusiasts, and even my parents said they couldn't stand this car. That was saying something.
The extreme low visibility doesn't help.
ThatDudeinBlue The PT cruiser at least has a purpose so by that metric HHR is even worse than a car that most people despise, which is really saying something.
A buddy of mine said the same thing after renting one. I just wonder which was worse driving: the HHR or the PT Cruiser.
ThatDudeinBlue Hey! I too had a family vacation in a rented HHR. It was very cramped & I don't recall my family saying anything positive about it( or negative really)Gas mileage wasn't really that great either.
My mother got one as a rental after someone hit her New Beetle in a parking lot (if that gives you an idea of her tolerance for rear blind spots). I remember observing that a South American country's entire army could stand in formation behind and to one side of the HHR, and you'd never know.
ThatDudeinBlue a friend of mine had me drive his moms to drop off a truck he was selling, and the whole car is a rolling bling spot, I thought the late model Dodge Avenger sucked to see out of but these things genuinely have a B pillar that's 8 inches long and windows aren't very tall at all either.
I had a 2008 fully loaded hhr for a daily. UGLY as sin....but rode great and those heated seats burned your balls off. Did everything i needed it to do and you could load whatever you wanted in the back of it with the seats folded down. Loved that car.
I read daily as dually and I got really confused lmao.
My daughter was conceived in the back of one of these.
Nick poor thing.
Nice. My daughter was concieved in a Honda del Sol. Ya know, the ill-forgotten two seater replacement for the CRX.
@@captainchaos0666 the Honda del Sol is great though
What the hell foo lol
I don't know what to say that that doesn't sound like an insult
Mr. Regular, I love all of the super close-up pictures of random, irrelevant, dirty, rusty parts of the car that you're reviewing.
Ben makes me feel a little better about my rusty Jeep lol

Well damn
I had one for 100k miles over 3 years.never had an issue. I actually liked it.
Andrew Brown I had a PT Cruiser which I loved. I rented a HHR for a month when I was getting ready to move out of country and really liked it. I now have a Italian Lancia Limousine which I love
My parents and now my sister have had one for 15 years.
@@lincolnpaul1814 Lancia limousine? Thema, Kappa?
Got mine in 2012, it was a 2007 with 60k, now have 230,000 and it’s still going strong. 😊🇨🇦
@@ashleighjaimaosborne3966 i got a 09 . with 265K , i love it !!!! my friends tease me , then i tell them to drive it around the block.... then they fall in love
We had the 2.2 5 speed manual version (see profile pic, and video) and put almost 100k on it with a trailer in tow almost constantly (it had no tow rating for the manual versions). Fold the seats and it was like having a smaller mini van (mini, mini van?). This thing could move 1000 pounds and park anywhere. Get 27mpg and bark the tires in second. The SS didn't come out until after we moved to wyoming and needed something to clear the snow. I still look for one today since we are back in houston. For a compact vehicle it did it's job well.
@John Drohan we lived 4 miles down a private road with no maintenance for years. It took a lifted truck to get in. Add to that over 100 inches of snow (always in blizzard form) and this things had no chance in Wyoming or Montana. I took it to ohio for a winter and it was ok on city streets in the snow but not in the big horn mountains.
>The hatch is electric only.
>Me: [internal screaming]
>Me: Where did I put that pry bar...?
Except you can open the trunk with a dead battery. This guy obviously didn't read the manual. From the manual: 1. Remove the trim plug, located on the inside of the liftgate near the center. 2. Locate the release
lever on the latch. 3. Insert a tool into the access hole 4. The liftgate will unlatch when the lever is pushed rearward. Push the liftgate to open. 5. Reinstall the trim plug. It takes about 30 seconds to do this. I know I've done it before.
You can also hook up jumper cables from under the hood. Also in the manual.
its not that easy or maybe im stupid because i just say fuck it and feed the battery cables out the back door
I always found that stupid, but it wouldn't matter if it had a manual release on it because if you tried to start the car with a dead battery the key would be stuck in the ignition.

Never before did I think I'd be entertained by an HHR review. so props to you 😂
they never sold this over here in the UK and honestly it's the kinda car that would have sold well here.

hey maaaannn us historians have as much claim to historicism as these story jockies
@@evan12697 Or the FJ episode
I got a HHR as a gift. Although, its not a cute car, I've fallen in love with my HHR! I've never had any problems with mine. oh! and it looks much bette than the PT-cruiser.
You can't take your eyes of it, can you?
I love mine, too. Had some problems with it (ignition key lock), have some water in the cabin etc.
But the HHR has some personality - not always easy, but somehow lovely
@@espneindanke9172 I got a late model HHR way back when I first started my post college career back in 2011. We got it super cheap (less than 10K) with only about 7K miles on it. Everyone made fun of it, but I found the space in the back usable enough, gas mileage fine enough, and I rarely had to service it.
Then I moved to NYC, and just said....nah to owning any car.
But the ugliness absolutely grew on me, and eventually I found it very appealing.
@cronoesify
Mine is one of the first models and - believe it or not - I bought it, because it's very unique here in germany.
Only 2000 cars were sold between 2007-2011 and most are "done" by now.
So it's very rare and doesn't lose much value.
I spent 8000$ with about 45k miles on it. But even the shabbieest HHR will stay over 5000$, as long it is road legal.
People are turning heads, when I pass by ... unfortunatly mostly older man and less younger women^^
Worst thing, that happened to me was, that a girl on the gas station called it a PT-Cruiser (these were sold very often in germany).
BTW: The water in the cabin came through the windshields seal and was fixed for less than one Dollar :)
Can I Get an honest opinion..... would you purchase this very exact make/model/and year (2006 Chevrolet HHR LS FWD) with = 211,136 miles on it
@@keeponkeepkeepingon8376 I would if it's cheap enough and the engines in good shape. At 216,000 mi that's kind of not very high mileage per year so it wasn't rode real hard.
I have a 2011 hhr and I love it it’ has been a very dependable car and its retro style is cool 😎
I forgot about the movie Showgirls starring Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell, but don't let my bad memory distract you from the fact that the Atlanta Falcons blew a 25 point lead in the Super Bowl.
I have an HHR and I love it.
Give me a second, the flamesuit takes a little while to put on.
does your also have no pick up. mine is 2006 and i have to press so hard on the gas just toget the old girl going
High Kitty, check your air filter and have your throttle body cleaned.
Get a 2.4 if you have a base model ... the 2.2 is anemic
I have a 2008 that I bought off of the showroom floor...it has 177,000 + miles on it and the only thing wrong with it now are the rear door locks: sometimes they open, sometimes they don't. But mechanically it's been a great car and I don't plan to get rid of it. Plus it's paid off.
@@tonjaraye Spray WD40 in the door linkages, my wife's old 2009 HHR back doors used to stick too.
One of the deeper and more thoughtful RCR videos I've watched in a while. Reminds me of why I love this channel.
From a Finnish perspective I like how heated seats come out as something exotic!
Mr. Regular whoaaa slow down, you're flying through this commentary bro. Just chill your way through it like you've always done. Brown.
it does look nicer than a pt cruiser
More reliable too. I just sold a high mileage 2007 and now I have a 2010. Just regular maintenance
Be honest no it doesn't
Erik Skidmore with dozens of recalls? I remember years ago I asked my buddy GM mechanic about HHR, he said “ I am GM guy, but if you like that style, buy pt Cruiser, you’ll have less problems “
Looks are all subjective and most people probably will disagree with you
Everything looks nicer than a pt cruiser
my grandpa got one when they were new, and he hasnt had a single issue for 150k miles! they are nice grocery getters.
The HHR does have a jump point under the hood where you can attach cables to power hatch.

The HHR was designed by the same guy who did the PT Cruiser. Of course it fucking was.
Honestly it almost makes me appreciate the PT because that at least looks kinda fun. This thing is just vaguely shaped like an old wagon and then styled in the blandest possible way. No charm whatsoever.
Maybe if the HHR were painted, say, Seafoam Green and had 15" Wheels with Whitewalls and Smoothie Hubcaps it would catch more of the 1950s fervor. Inconvenient battery placement though.
Gargenville It looks like a Soviet bloc knockoff of a PT.
go to bed, Mr Regular
He probably started uploading this before he went to bed and it only finished a few hours ago. It takes about an hour to render most of my videos, and an hour and a half for them to upload to youtube.
let me tell yall a little trick about youtube, if it says published on (date) it means it was scheduled. if it says uploaded on (date) then it wasnt.
You upload and hit publish... it still takes awhile to upload before it publishes. I usually upload, enter title description, and keywords and hit publish before I go to work. It doesn't show up on RUclips until about 1.5-2 hours later when I upload at 1080 (it was quicker when I did 720p).
And the counter starts when it shows up on RUclips.
Bagelstein you're drunk
my dad has had a 2006 hhr since it was new. it's nothing special, it just gets it done. no fancy bells and whistles, just turn the key, put it in gear, turn on the ac, and go to work. that's all it was meant to do. I have somehow fallen in love with the damned thing. we race cars and this thing is our tool box pretty much. we lay the back seats down and can carry just about anything you want to. we've went through at least six inside door handles because they're made more flimsy than a lays potato chip, but everything else has been normal. couldn't complain about this thing if I wanted to. good job Chevy, you've made a good one.
nice. reminds me of UK Top Gear. Back when it was hosted by Clarkson, Hammond and May. You know, when it was still good.
Combining historical context with car reviews. I kinda stumbled on this channel and I love it. I'm actually learning something here
I asked a guy at work, "if that was his pt cruiser"....wow he was 🔥
I'm an English major finishing up his Bachelor's degree and I can honestly say you helped me understand new historicism better than the courses I have taken that have focused on that school of thought.
However the review of the "car" was the least impressive, other than where you tickle the clit to get the key to drop... Now THAT WAS FUNNY!
I just wanna say I love these reviews. Some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever heard. Great stuff and keep them coming!
I'll take an HHR over a PT any day.
That's like saying you'd take a horse turd over a dog turd.
@@Slayermetallica69 Arent you a mixture of both?
As someone who had a pt, yes I agree lol
Had both and I would too.
"I'M THE PRINCE OF INSOMNIA CALL ME NOCTIS!!"
You sir, win at references.
I rented one of these in 09 i think. Base model, cloth everything. Loved it.
I like the hhr, it is a has class of its own, it is different from the rest, it is unique, it has its own style, when you park in a parking lot it stands out from the rest, no guessing if it's your car, or have that embarrasing moment walking up to the wrong car , most cars look alike most with the same slope back that you can't tell the differnce from a kia, hyidai, ford, honda, and others. Yea, it's not the best car but it's not the worst, it rides nice a smooth and with the 190,000 miles on my hhr it still rides smooth and also shifts smoothly. So while you're driving your look alike car I'm driving my unique, distinguish, cool styling, head turner, the Chevy HHR!
Factz I own a 08 HHR 2LT Fully Loaded
Its unique and fun to drive
There were also times where I felt like the HHR was a girl car lol
It’s still a nice and smooth car I love it
06 HHR LT ❤it
Almost forgot - The ignition locks would sometimes turn off by themselves. Ignition lock with more positive detents was installed under recall. Power steering motor would stop working occasionally. Motor replaced under recall.
I love my HHR, it helped us while my Camaro, Cruze, Silverado, my friend's Altima, friends mustang, Friends Accord needed repairs. This Car i purchased for 5,999 years ago chugged along with no worries just that recall which took a day to replace...
Back when I worked at [an auto parts store], they had the base model HHR as a delivery vehicle, accompanied by a four cylinder Ford Ranger to do the heavy lifting. I remember disliking the HHR quite a bit, but it was fun to zip around in before they stuck the OBD II GPS tracking devices in them.
This may be the best episode yet, Excellent Work, Bravo!!
This car saved me and my mom and sister from injury during an almost-head on wreck a few years ago
Yes...good crashers.
I had one and it was the best vehicle Chevy has offered IMO. This was very practical for moving households, it was a wonderful traveling car, and I believe it was safe. Now I am aware a lot of people didn't like these cars but I LOVED mine! There was only regular maintenance for mine. I even bought mine used 07 LT and it was great. I actually couldn't of asked for a better first car. So then a while ago I bought a PT...I liked the PT a lot, but don't get me wrong I didn't love it like I loved my HHR. Nothing could ever be loved like the HHR by me. I wish they would come out with something similar.
You haven't driven enough Chevy's if you think this is the best. I like these vehicles, don't get me wrong, but there are better GM products being made that a little more thought was put into. Like the Trailblazer with it's fantastic engine choices (even the base 4.2L was way more powerful than it's rivals base engine) and the full size trucks are normally a solid choice for a truck with the best engine options in it's segment (based on durability, cost and how much power they can make per dollar).
Best vehicle Chevy has offered? So this ugly thing this is better than a Chevy SS, Camaro ZL1 or a Corvette?
@@The_Fat_Turtle - Most people aren't doing anything crazy with their vehicle. They just need it to drive acceptably. They aren't hauling anything. They aren't driving aggressively. They're just going to work and running errands. They don't need a particularly powerful engine, nor would they notice the difference.
People comparing the HHR to Camaros and Trailblazers are not taking into account purpose. He refers to comparable use vehicles.
My HHR has gotten 37mpg, is a panel, is great for advertising and holding my tools.
I love my mother in law's Envoy (GMC trailblazer) very nice to drive, but it gets as bad of mpg as my suburban with much less space and power.
I love my Camaro, but it also serves a totally different purpose.
My HHR is the best vehicle I could find for it's purpose.
I own a 2007 Chevy hhr with over 300k miles, it treats me very well despite its massive amount of flaws but I’ve discovered that I cannot allow anyone else to drive it besides me because every time someone drives it it ends up stuck in a parking lot somewhere with a dead battery because the key wouldn’t come out of the ignition, which in turn leaves me digging whatever is in the back of the car out through the backdoor and left on the ground so I can rip out the two plastic covers that cover the battery. Now there is a positive hookup and negative in the engine bay that I believe was put there when they installed the fake shiny silver plastic trim because it looks pretty but honestly it does nothing but cause me pain
I tip my hat to this video. You're nailing that combination of lewdness, real feature oriented car review, and a greater philosophical bent. You're on top of your game, good sir!
I don’t know why, but I just had to subscribe! The humor and the introductions! Love it!
The PT Cruiser and the HHR were designed, in part, by the same person, Bryan Nesbitt.
Why did they stop making these cars now anyway?
Chevys always have a burnt out daytime running lamp

@@dabradguy I remember some fishing show years ago and they were given a gmt800 truck to shill. At one point they showed it pulling a boat up a boat launch with a burnt drl LMAO it was brand new. I think they developed different bulbs that were cooler to stop this eventually. I've had a couple and I just put led lights in it.
Very informative Mr.regular. Love your car reviews
Regular is soo poetic in his explanations, i feel like every time he does this , i learn something new about cars and the sociology of the people that buy them
I'm like the only one who genuinely likes these things, and pt cruisers
Blacktop Garage I like these cars as well, especially the hot SS version.
I actually like it too.... Lol
I've driven one for 8 years. Its been the most relaible car Ive ever owned.
I'm not a PT cruiser fan, but I do kinda like the HHR's. Seems like a decent road trip car because it looks like you could actually sleep in the back with some padding put down.
HHRs are great. PT not so much. Both of my HHRs have been all over the place with basic maintenance
I had a 2007 Monte SS and I HATED how everything was all electric... no manual way to open the trunk, or even to unlock the doors. Yes, it had a keyhole on the doors, but there was still a delay from when you turned the key until it unlocked. That is why when I replaced it, I wanted something as "stupid" as possible, where the computer did much less... 2015 Dodge Dart with manual transmission, simplest radio/cd player, but the damn car still doesn't have a manual way to get into the trunk! Why is it so hard for auto makers to put a key hole on the trunks and passenger door? Does it really cut the cost of the vehicle that much to leave them off?
I think auto makers are trying to move away from physical keys, for whatever reason. Our 2014 CX-5 has only a proximity key, and electronic button on the tailgate, but it does have a backup physical key inside the proximity key fob, and a lock cylinder on the driver side door.
+Patrick94GSR The reason is because they don't like the fact that you could go to a key shop and get a spare key cut for $5, so now you have to go to the dealer and pay out the ass for a fancy electric wireless plastic "key" thing
UnleashNinjaGuru couldn't have said it any better myself!
UnleashNinjaGuru
yeah it sucks, because our CX-5 only came with one key when we bought it used from a dealership back in August. New key is over $200! What I need to do is get a locksmith to copy the backup key so we at least have that. We've already had the proximity key locked inside the car once to the tune of $60 for a locksmith to open the door in less than 30 seconds.
Milsurp Mike yeah i dont get that why dont cars have actual latches or manual trunk release shit happens electronics fail
The HHR does have a mechanical hatch release, it hidden under a small plastic piece that is removable. It's on the panned of the hatch that has molded in pieces of the same design. just try to remove them all, one will eventually pop-out and you can stick a finger in there and open the hatch.
love the analysis! I definitely learned something here. Thanks!
There's another PT Cruiser? Good god.
Yeah, it was designed by the same guy - Brian Nesbitt.
More like a more expensive PT wannabe. It has more bells and whistles but at a cost. The PT had no blind spots but the HHR is a backing accident waiting to happen. But you could get a white HHR and put red crosses on all sides and pass for an ambulance during the great depression.

Wait.. did he just take a completely true shot at larpers during the intro? PT were everywhere in the early 2000's at those events.
Interesting analysis. If I may chime in....The PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt who was hired away by GM and asked to design a competing vehicle. Hoping to capture the momentum of the retro craze while getting a foothold in the emerging econo-"box" (Cube, Element, xb, etc) market, Nesbitt hoped lightning would strike twice. I suppose it's debatable whether or not it was a success. GM, in their typical fashion, may have tarnished their own sales figures by not including this as a Cobalt-variant in sales the same way Toyota included the Matrix as a Corolla-variant.
My wife and I have owned 2 HHRs, the first being a 2006. We bought our 2011 after the first met an untimely end when an Altima pulled out in front of my wife in 2015. She likes the cars much more than I do, but I don't object to them. The car doesn't evoke an emotional response, but they have been reliable transportation to us.
I drive this exact same car. Year, color, leather and all the same options. It's had all the recalls done. Also new front suspension. Twice lol. It has 184k on it. Been serviced regularly. It now needs an ac compressor and needs a timing chain soon. No rust anywhere. These cars do not hold their value at all but they are good cars. The fully loaded ones are. We had a 2008 that lasted over 300k but it was totaled and it still ran after that. I'm sure it's in Mexico now with plexiglass windows and duct tape.
I have a 2011 LT, with optional sunroof and chrome package. I love it. It's a great grocery getter and all-around errand vehicle. The front passenger seat folds down so I can get 8ft lumber in it for small projects. Mine has a manual release back hatch by the way. If you can find one in good shape, well taken care of -- buy it! They are cool!
I just got one today

Those door handles were soo aweful.
my uncle has this car but in a cherry bright red. I remember when he used to pick me up after getting off the bus and he used to warn me of pulling the plastic handles when getting out of the car that they would break.
I remember how flimsy and loose and cheap and unbelievably aweful they were. they felt. brittle and ready to snap like a cheap toy.
But other than that, the car is still good. it runs smooth, it is somewhat roomy and it is ok. He still has it.
all cars have shit handles. My honda accord handle broke all the time. All cars are made of cheap plastic
i’ve had a 2007 HHR since it was new and i love that car man
I had all these same issues on my 2008 HHR, although it's still going strong at 150000+ miles. I also was going through front rotors every 6 months. I finally found some performance rotors that didn't warp.
@@theresawagner9872 Theresa it's been over a year ago but I purchased these rotors off of ebay from autoshackautopartsusa. Unfortunately they don't seem to have this item anymore however, I can tell you when looking for rotors buy the Pair "Drilled & Slotted Front Disc Performance Brake Rotors". I also recommend replacing your front calipers as well.
Have an '07,bought new.A GREAT little station wagon, and one of the best cars we've ever had.Easy in traffic, keeps up with the big boys on the highway.Comfortable everywhere, and does everything I ask of it.If they still made them I'd buy a new one!
PST 1:50am here.... it's too much of a history lesson while sleepy and sorta baked.
Brilliant, entertaining, and informative.
Very cool review!
This car saved my life 😂😂 I rolled twice in it
That thick A pillar is there for just that reason. Glad you came out OK.
Climb through the rear hatch to get a jump? Aren't there jumping posts under the hood?
There are. And there's a manual release for the door on the inside behind a little panel you can remove on the gate.
bitsyray Yea I didn't know that when I first got the car. Jumping the car from a post next to the fuse box sounded like a bad idea, so I did it the hard way. I have it all figured out now... lol
TheWizardFlop all is well lol. I've been known to do things the hard way sometimes because it works better in my head XD
We moved from Berks County to New Zealand 10 years ago. I don't really care about cars, but my husband made me watch this just so he could point out every location in Bernville and Blue Marsh. Made me a little homesick.
best story with the review yet ...love it ....got my learn on
