- This happened at the Saga Balloon Festival 1991. It was a Saturday afternoon when many turn up to watch the balloons so a flight is called in dubious weather conditions. This type of flight is rarely caught on camera. The pilots fly the task with some tension and afterwards much comedy.

Had to believe I've never seen this before. I've flown in a snow showed, but I'll leave the rain to the PROFESSIONALS! GOOD ON YA DAVID!
One of the big reasons I quit going to competition events....everybody is so focused on 'the prize' that they ignore the judgement skills they've all been trained to use in the fly/no fly decision. Plus, the organizers HAVE to get the balloons in the air or their sponsors tend to not donate the next year. There is way too much pressure to fly and little integrity towards what we all know is safe. I flew rides for 25 years....and got myself caught in this sort of situation once, for the same reasons.....there are things that cannot enter the flight equation. Money, pride, ego those sort of factors have no business in it.
