  • Here's my Behind the Instagram #4 th video in the series - How To Fix a Bad Balayage, video. It was my most highly requested picture on instagram that I had to do a behind the scenes video on it. My client came in with a very harsh line and wanted a more wearable color and look. So I balayaged her hark roots first, then did a highlift on the rest of the dark hair, avoiding the roots of course which would become hot roots with a hi-lift. I then did a 9A on the very root to give her just enough brightness. When it was all processed I shampooed and toner with Redkens shades eq, my favorite toner of all time! Hope this helps if you too are ina similar situation. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

Ugh, why can't I find a hairdresser like you, I literally had hair like the first picture FROM a salon! It was awful and I'm way too nice to not pay... I haven't gotten my hair cut of coloured In a salon since and that was 2 years ago. I may not cut my hair "well" but I don't trust anyone anymore :(

Amanda Mendes i can't help you with the balayage as i just went back to the salon and ask them to redo it (they added some highlights up to and some dark strands down tk break the lines) but with the color my solution was to mix my conditioner and the 00/88 of wella (blue dye) in a ratio of 1 tea spoon / 3 cm and leave it in the hair for 20 minutes or so. I'd recommend you to try a few minutes and check, few minutes and check as you can turn your hair bluish if you leave it for too long. Also you may want to rinse the ends earlier/ apply later as they are lighter.
This will make your hair slightly darker but will tone down the brassiness. You can use any type of blue dye but be careful with the ratio, better add less, or do it more than once or not leave it enough than ending with your hair blue
You can also use an ash blonde on top but if you use to much your hair may turn greenish so be careful
      Hope it helped 😘

This just happened to me, I'm so pissed. It's so gold and she said it was the florescent lighting in the salon, took me outside and it was a bit better but not good. She put dark on roots then basically bleached the bottom half then put toner on. I called the salon and I've got an appointment with the same girl for a consultation but I'm not sure I want to see her again. What should I do, go somewhere else?

I went from gray and brown all over my head to blonde with soft brown roots and its very blended. I’ve got a lot of woman ask how I did it and truly all I did was listen to your advise and learn what was best for my hair!

OMG this really helps! My hair looks like the one on the left "orange and black" it looks hideous! I was so disappointed from the bayalage that I got this past Saturday. As you can see in my pic I had healthy hair but thought I'd do a bayalage! There's hope! I was just going to cut off the fried orange hair and do an all over dark color but my dream was to go lighter. Kinda like the color your pic on the right shows! So beautiful! thanks so much!

  • @makexbelieve

Haha, wow, my hair looks exactly like the before picture currently. The girl I went to use Olaplex on my hair to do a "dary grey balayage" and gave me no blur, it goes from dark brown/black to gold/streaky blonde, like in the right light I look like a tiger on the blonde parts. It also completely fried my hair.. I paid quite a bit of money to look like I have been growing out my roots.. Kinda really sad, but I have a consult with a stylist who I've heard good things about and I hope can fix this.. :(

You said you painted a balayage on the dark area but then when you were talking about using the hi-lift color your said you applied it to the areas that weren't balayaged or foiled. What did you do with foils? Also what was the high lift formula?

Hi so I had a quick question which I hope you get the chance to answer for me. My hair looks exactly like the picture you posted I pretty much unterstood everything on how to get the finishing result my only question is when you tone do you tone the entire hair or just what was already bleached? And how exactly does the balayge technique work in this exact situation? Oh one more thing so my roots ended up that fiery red you were talking about how would I go about to get rid of it?? Thank you so much I hope you get the chance to answer my questions😌

I just had someone come I. Who had the exact same problem. I colored her hair on The new growth with 7ab 30 volume gels. (Shampoo and dry) Then I foiled flash lift 10 volume at roots and 20 in ends. Then I glazed all the hair I between foils with 08n and then rinsed and took foils out and glazed with 09n and 09gi. Oh, and I would love to see a balayage tutorial on virgin level 3 hair. I've never let anyone touch my hair and this will be no exception. I'd like a blonde balayage, but want minimal upkeep (not dealing with roots). I know doing a caramel balayage won't require a base bump, but I'd like more blond than caramel. Is there a way to keep my base, yet have medium blonde balayage that looks good? Thanks for sharing all the info you do!

  • @BlackcrescentAngel17

I'm still confused on the balayage part. Did you balayage with a hair color and why only the natural hair? Also, did you use a high lift with the balayage still on l, or did you wash that out instead? From what I understand, the high lift lofts your hair but isn't as strong as bleach. What would happen if you high lift her dyed hair? I'm trying to achieve something like this (I'm a 4-5 hair color and want to move to a 6-7 ash) and I have a golden ends like hers.

Well she didn't like it and we said we fix it ,but she didn't want to and our manger let her leave with out paying I guess i don't blame either of them .

Good point on focusing on the client. Owner of the salon listens in on my clients conversation while she has someone in her chair. So much that her entire body is leaning in our direction. I guess she doesn't realize her client is sitting in front of a big mirror and can see it.

Thank you for the videos they are great. Is it possible for you to do more videos on natural dark brown or black hair to blonde with detail as to products, measurements and time hopefully with a video. Also gray and dark brown hair colored and making a dark blonde with highlights. Most importantly how to deal with brassy orange hair for dark brunettes with highlights? How do you color at home the back of the hair for touch ups that require color and highlights? What type of treatments for hair after bleaching? I heard using Solaplex 3 on hair at home to repair and condition, do you have to mix with anything or alone? Thank you. Lots of questions I know but I can't figure out all steps, measurements and timing from videos. You do awesome work

I have been on the roughest journey ever going platinum blonde (in my eyes, your color) and I have been going to a salon for the last couple months they have just not been helping at all so I decided to do it myself and it actually looks and feels better when they have ever done it... (I live in a small town so good hair stylists are very hard to find) anyway my hair is a very pale yellow already been toned with Wella t18 with t11 mixed but it still has tints of yellow and orange how would I get it to your color from here?

Thank you! I have something similar to the before picture after growing out heavy highlights for a year, trying to grow out my natural colour (level 4) but I've decided to give up on that idea :D
This video made perfect sense, I couldn't find much info on how to blend out old highlights into a balayage, so thank you again!

Heyyyy 👋🏽I’m kind of at a dead end with my hair and it’s still not what I want. It’s a orange copper color now. I was wondering if you knew whether or not i should dye my hair again. I think at this point I need to put a L’Oréal colo rista blonde semi permanent dye over orrrr should I d a t18 wella with Wella 50 additive and 20 vol developer??? already did three bleaching sessions. I can send u a pic to see it.

Hey Ellebangs I love your videos and I'm in a very similar situation as this client was. I just wanted to ask what hi lift exactly did you use? a light brown? Im wondering the brand and color along with the 9a. which brand and color title. I have the same exact color correction currently and Id love to know all the specifics so I can attempt to correct my hair on my own.

I have old balayage (natural black hair but currently have a caramel color all over , medium blond highlights up amd down, and very blond ends) and i have a line dividing above my eyes, but not as harsh as the example in this video. I have watched litteraly all your vids and now i want to pass caramel colors to very ash tones, and im thinking re-do highlights on the top, and then use an ash color for all over my hair with a 10 developer to the upper part of my hair and a 30 developer for the middle and ends. What do you think? Can you make and example of correcting this kind of balayage ? Thx !

I like that you pointed out focus on the client, customer service needs to be on the rise. The before and after is wonderful.
I learned a lot, you colorist need to be so creative.
I was wondering how to color my hair with dark roots, overall red copper 6 and blonde bangs, basically brassy bangs now and looks low class.
I will color my whole head and maybe Accenture the to be bright red bangs more red.
