I didn't know maple was on here watching prestige
What a fantastic film. It’s absolutely incredible and definitely follows the three parts of magic mentioned in the movie. It’s a must watch.
They're able to show you Fallon's brother over and over throughout the movie and you never suspect. And it's partly because they've led you to believe that you're in on it, because you were able to see through all the other disguises they were continually wearing. Subtle!
this film should be studied in writing classes lmao it’s definitely Nolan’s true masterpiece.
Then there are artists like myself who have studied literally thousands of human faces and could tell in the very first frame in which Fallon appears that he’s *very very obviously* Christian Bale:)
9:50 If there's anything I've learned from Back to the Future II , is that CPR wasn't invented yet until after the 50's. ✌
This movie is brilliant. Awesome bit of foreshadowing. The bird trick and the kid asking "Where's his brother?"
"Which knot did you use?"
"I don't know."
(He never asked the right Borden).
"We should have told Fallon! This is amazing!" The Fallon/Borden was the real father.
Glad Cutter stepped aside and let Borden kill Angier.
I also really love how Nolan just simply shows his entire plot twist in one scene where Fallon shows kid a coin with 2 heads saying "Are you watching closely?"
@@Morfinblood Also the kid saying "Where's his brother?"after the bird is killed and the replacement/fake is brought out.
They foreshadowed Borden's twin, too, with the Asian magician early in the movie, with his goldfish bowl trick. They even said that he held it between his knees, and he walked like someone who was crippled every. day. of. his. life. so people wouldn't suspect. Total, lifelong dedication. That's what the Borden brothers did, and the other one cutting his finger off was just part of it. Having to live as one man their entire adult lives for the sake of that trick made the Asian magician look like a duffer.
I heard somewhere that the old Asian guy is based on a real magician from that period who pretended to be an old man from his early twenties so he could go out in public doing his old man routine and then take off the makeup and be a young guy who nobody would look twice at. Thinking about it I believe the guy in question wasn't even really asian but learned to speak chinese and had chinese staff working for him.
It was so long ago I can't remember, I need to look it up.
When Borden first meets Sarah and her nephew and shows them the bird trick, the nephew says "But what about his *brother*?"
@@daved2352 I’m a bit late but the man you’re thinking of is Chung Ling Soo
Actually what foreshadowed Borden’s twin was the Bird Trick. Where Borden was a Stagehand, the same show he met Sarah.
@@josezamarron1064 But we didn't know who Borden was at that point. The "But what about his brother?" line is the real foreshadowing moment in that scene.
9:01, I think you basically MISSED the main part where the WIFE gave gave the Signal for the KNOT because you were talking.
Oh man they missed a lot, mainly when Maple decided she was gonna ramble on about random sh*t 😉😊
Every time I watch this movie with somebody, I'm sitting there sweating bullets thinking that they're going to figure it out, but they never do.
During the funeral, when Alfred says he doesn’t know what knot he tied because it was the twin that was the one who actually tied it. Not Alfred
You can sort of tell which brother is which by their attitude. The more soft spoken one is the more "Borden"twin(he's the one who gets his fingers shot off and the one who explains the fishbowl trick.) The one who gets hanged is loud, abrasive and the one who ties the Langford double because the other is "boring".
HOLDUP TIMOTHEE AND MAPLE NOW??? Dude clearly any crossover is possible 😂
You know it! King of crossover here. I just like doing them so much! Who knew talking to another human for 2 hours is better than just talking to yourself
I love that Christopher Nolan just has a set amount of actors he always chooses for his films. I love this one it’s directed and written so well I love all the dialogue
16:55 the late David Bowie Ladies and Gents! 😎👍
Been waiting all week for this one.
This is the collaboration that I didn't know that I needed. 😊 One of Maple's MCU reactions popped up on my RUclips feed one day, and instantly subbed to the Diegesis channel. The other reactor, Arianna, has some great reactions as well.
As soon as I'm finished with your video, I'll be heading over to Diegesis to check out the reaction for "The Illusionist".
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Hi thank you for the support friend ❤️
Nikola Tesla was played by David Bowie which was the best part of the movie :)
The part where Angier has to kill his original self and the clone takes his place is peak gothic horror. I think the game Soma took some inspiration from this.
It's a good thing the machine never worked then
This is the most underrated film of all time in my opinion. Until a few years ago this movie was very very unknown. I try and stay on top of movies and even I didn't see this movie until 2013 and it came out in 2006.
Super underrated
I thought it was pretty funny that my last name is also Borden and I have lived in Colorado my whole life hahaha.
THIS MOVIE IS FREAKING AWESOME
If you want to check out another David Bowie movie I recommend Labyrinth,ITS FREAKING UNDERRATED.
Since you like mystery movie I could also recommend :Mulholland Drive
Doves and pigeons are the same family of birds, so Maple was right lol
That's like saying a Wolf and a German Shepherd are the same because they're both dogs...🙄
The 3 acts of the film are also the 3 parts of a magic trick
I had fun this episode but finding out that your doing one of my faves next eeeeeeeeppppp The Illusionist
This movie was a rollercoaster and a half. It took me so long to finish comprehending it. I enjoyed it though. Thanks for the reaction!
Honestly, if I was Angier, I would have taken the Tesla machine, as it was, say Screw stage magic, and gone off to duplicate shit. Like gold bars, or diamonds, or freaking sacks of money.
Even if he had no imagination at all, he could open a hat shop!
Sure, but of course, by that point, it had long since ceased to be about the magic. He went through all of that for the sake of his revenge. Gold bars won't get him that. (Well, unless he pays someone to do it for him, I guess).
@@ACommonHero2 Well that's just because no one clued him into the concept that the best revenge is to make more money!
For Angier it's all about revenge against Borden. He literally says to Johanssen "I don't care about my wife".
@@jhornacek But it wasn't revenge, as you said he wasn't avenging his wife, it was punishment because he felt Borden was too flippant with magic, misconstrued by Borden being dismissal about his state of mind during his wife's murder [the audience later finds out it is because it was Borden 2 who actually killed Angier's wife, but Borden couldn't admit that, but also couldn't express whether "he" had tied the proper knot or not]. That was the feature that twisted Angier's hatred into obsession.
The Tesla stuff is pretty much all true, too.
Great movie, and great way to do the reaction with one person watching it for the first time and the other on a repeat viewing.
This is a great movie, but a funny coincidence is the fact that it stars both Michael Caine and Andy Serkis, who both have played the character of Alfred Pennyworth: Caine in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy with Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Serkis in the new Matt Reeves Batman movie with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman (who also starred in Nolan’s newest film “Tenet”).
The whole theme of the movie is Sacrifice how much should one sacrifice for his craft before he loses himself.
Christopher Nolan is a genius .
Thank you for reacting to this movie Tim and Maple! This movie is one of my favorites! lol the BEST Batman/Wolverine crossover! 😅👍
Certainly better than "Darkclaw"...
Tim, please watch “The Lighthouse” with Dafoe and Pattinson. 🙏🦑
tim please do a real life collab maybe together with nickflix and rival reacts😁👍 and a great/a awesome collab video with diegesis and this movie had batman(christian bale) aflred(micheal caine) from the dark knight trilogy wolverine(hugh jackman) from the x-men movies Black widow(scarlett johansson) from the mcu and gollum(andy serkis) from the lord of the rings trilogy and tim have a good day and enjoy the rest of the weekend💪☀️😎🤙
it's funny you should mention that.... in some versions of Batman (the comic), a younger Bruce Wayne trains with a magician, in Batman The Animated Series, he trains with Zatanna's father, a magician named Zatara who teaches him escape skills and magic
Heyy Tim believe it or not but I graduated college today
I made it
A cabinet for all my 🐈 🤠 and facial hair tools. But srsly great reaction you guys!
Have a great weekend
All your "cat cowboy" tools? 😕🤪
This is quite possibly one of Nolan's best works; it does not get enough attention
Maple from diegesis...love you!
One of my favorite films EVER!!! :)

That's why he never knew which knot he tied. Every time he was asked, he was asking the wrong brother!
What i always found verry odd: such a water tank takes up to 500L of water. So it weights a half metric ton. So they used this tank on stage and then somehow moved it in the basement below the stage still filled with water. It is already a verry dumb answer to the question how he moved the watertank below the trap door, "he is the magician ask him". Yeah thats the point of the question. You cant explain? Thank you.
So at the end of the day this man was convicted just because he was backstage and a rival of the victim. Yes there is a motive and he was present. But it always bugged me how they convicted him without actual proof.
There wasn't just one water tank. Angier had a water tank on stage to be used for an earlier trick in the act, but he already had a water tank under the stage, set there by his blind assistants. We see at the end that there are dozens (hundreds?) or water tanks with cloned Angiers there, so Angier had lots of water tanks.
But Caine's character (and the public) don't know about the multiple water tanks. They think there was only one, so they assume Borden moved it to kill Angier.
It happens all the time. You don't need a body, you don't need evidence. If all signs point to something a jury can find a man guilty.
@@jmeds94 Agreed. Some (not most) murder trials don't have a body as evidence, but they still convict the person because even without a body, the prosecution can prove that a murder did happen.
Teslas idea to make eletrcicity free and wireless was amazing. To bad he was crushed by Edison. Edison just wanted to make money.
🤔 Halfway through, and I'm wondering... You guys are being so chatty, but this is such a cerebral movie -- are you going to miss something important?
Sup
Nothin much. Waking up. Uploaded this
Having a little man inside his cloth - is the best explanation for the asian man's trick. I think you cracked it
If you like this check out another similar great film the illusionist
He literally says at the end of the video that the next movie he's watching is The Illusionist.
And react to
(Inspector gadget) it’s on Disney plus
She was right… a rivalry between two magicians led to the creation of the copy machine.
Hey buddy😁😁😁
Ayy Colorado shout out!
Could you react to these two film?
The horse whisperer (1998) and The Call of the wild (2020)
thanks ;)
Wow that's a lucky man who marries that woman. Or a woman. Equality. She's so adorable. And clever. I think she's perfect 🥰
Films like this prove why Christopher Nolan is a genius filmmaker! I really recommend the other Nolan films!
You would have known it was Colorado before seeing the building with the sign Colorado on it because the character clearly says "If Colorado is the end of my journey" before the building shot but it seems like the both of you missed it while talking over the movie. It seems you also missed the significance and background to who he was visiting at 4:45 as Tesla was mentioned while you 2 were talking over the movie about Game of Thrones, Lord of the RIngs, and Smeagol. There was also the two of you joking about another man in the suit holding the fishbowl when there's a lot of significance going on in that short, quick scene of the magician leaving but it was talked over. Then, when he says "I don't care about my wife" - a very powerful part of the money showing his obsession (and which he immediately regrets saying) - that was also completely glossed over as the girl joked around about copy machines.
Way too much rambling and jokes over the movie supposedly being reacted to. I had to close the video after this.
These are deep movies with important visuals and especially dialogue. They aren't simplistic movies like, for eg., marvel movies. They need to be properly paid attention to if you want to fully grasp the depth, significance, complexity, and brilliance of the film.
Tim watch indian superhero krrish 2 pls
Look this isn’t the first time it’s been brought up with your reactions but you really need to stop laughing and joking and coloring your react partner’s impressions. There are moments where there’s actual dramatic tension and hints being dropped and all you do is just keep laughing. Just let them enjoy the film for the first time. It’s not a frat house.
You have to watch it for the second time and then u will understand every scene.
I would suggest to anybody to check out any documentaries about Nikola Tesla. He was a bonified genius and a fascinating person in general having invented a lot of things we still use today including his big one, AC current electricity.
His clone was supposed to die, every show, and he the original, live. But other guy, switched things! They both got what they wanted. One, the ultimate illusion. The other, real magic. And both, ultimate revenge.... there's actually so much so many times, foreshadowing in this movie, it confuses u! If u read about Tesla history, he was going to invent a machine that conducted world wide electricity, for free. GE and Edison, and power companies, couldn't have that! He also developed an early laser weapon, the initial shot from it still exists in Russia, miles of ground where nothing grows, 100 years later! His original partners stole a few secrets, and started an organization that still exists, UL or UIL, United Laboratories, u use products that they agree are safe, every day! The minute Tesla died, FBI guys were outside his door, came in, secured the area, and took everything!
But ultimately, this ruins most magic tricks....if u cant hide something in ur hands or on ur body, there's always a double! U have to see hugh's master film, Prisoners, done by Villanueve a master director, who is Nolan's contemporary! Scarlett was masterful in Lucy, and The girl with the pearl necklace!
So ultimately, he lived, his twin died, and the clone lived, then was killed!
But ultimately, this ruins most magic tricks....if u cant hide something in ur hands or on ur body, there's always a double! So in reality, the worst person in this movie, is the boss, he knows everything!
Love Maple. Can't stand tim. And he keeps dropping hints instead of letting her just experience the film.
Yea exactly. Ruined the whole video tbh
React to the Clifford the big red dog it’s really cute and fun movie that you’ll love it’s really fun and awesome and Clifford is really cooly animated in the movie it’s crazy you should watch it it’s on paramount plus it is amazing!
..batman vs wolverine lol
a good magicians trick is to convince your wife her ring is real and on her deathbed you tell her its fake and then take a bow
U should watch the Nancy Drew movie if you haven’t already!
you should react to x 2022
Stop Laughing unnecessarily or Cracking Jokes when you are Reacting to some important or Thrilling scene going on in a movie , it's like you are mocking This Masterpiece and Marvelous Movie
Do you know what a RUclips reaction video is?
First
GG
Yep, many tricks do require a plant in the audience who the magician knows to pick out to come on stage. Though it depends on the trick of course. This is why I hate when shows like Americas Got Talent let "clairvoyants" and "psychics" perform. Most audiences believe these people are real. They don't understand the judges and people from the audience are all in on it.
After a good magician entertains you. So it the judges and others must act surprised to make the trick seem real and amazing. You, even more, can tell if the magician says things like "We never met before this right" or asks a judge "You hadn't talked to me before today right?", it's an obvious sign they have.
Again, I get it's part of magic. But many people today believe some things they see when it comes to clairvoyants and "guessing" magic. Remember, if these people were real with real powers, they wouldn't be trying to get their own show for money. They could just play the winning lottery number or bet on the SuperBowl on the winning team.
In short clairvoyants/psychics and other "Read your mind" people aren't real magic. There is no slide of hand or some great thing happening behind the scenes. It's just setup people acting shocked.
This one is a 8/10
10/10.
@@dc_cristianz r
i mean, he still cheated on her lol
Watch ratatouille
It’s comin so soon
So the bad guy won😹
They were both bad guys.
I could not finish because you guys talked over everything. It makes your reactions seem ungenuine and gimmicky
If you want to watch the movie then watch the movie. The whole point of a RUclips reaction video is that you've already seen the movie and are there to watch them react to it.
the guy 's commentary was quite annoying in the end reveal, we can all see whats happening dude
dont like the girl in this video don't disrespect a legend like bale and say that none of his performanaces were special or amazing when he quite literally has more amazing performances than dicaprio, pitt, phoenix and more
You guys talk way way to much. And not with any insightful comments. Just inanity. How do you even catch half if the dialogue? This isn’t reaction. It’s mindless commentary. Try keeping quite for a few seconds and being absorbed by a spellbinding movie. Such an annoying viewing. You must love the sounds of your own voices.
there was an extreme scene happening and you two are just chatting away. very annoying, what's worse is you know a lot of people are watching with you.
wtf is that?did they forgot to put part 2 in the name of video or wtf?so bad
Whatt
AWESOME MOVIE!!! THAT MOMENT U REALIZE THAT THE WHOLE MOVIE WAS A MAGIC TRICK....LMAO !!! TOP 10 MOVIE ALL TIME...TOP 10 TWIST ALL TIME ... AMAZING.... every main character in this movie played in the DC in the Marvel or Marvel
Thanks, Timothée! Thanks, Diegesis! 🪄 I saw this one in the cinema... and several times since. I've always loved it.
