In every video Steve uploads, I always look forward to moments like 5:20 when we taps the spoon on the cup and it gives off a melody sort of sound. Little editing like that makes me appreciate these videos.

Made in NZ by a multi-national Corporation that originated in the US and I can guarantee all those ingredients are from NZ.
A lot of NZ ration items are made in Australia, and a lot of Australia's are made in NZ.

Whittakers is the best chocolate in the world, no joke. Get a peanut slab, import it if you have to. It's godly.

we love our custard in nz, that's for sure. it's basically as good as you described. it's one of my favourite desserts. goes good with fruit and/or pavlova.
We love it here in the UK too, we use it for on cakes instead of cream
Here in South Africa we have a sort of National Desert called Milktart. It's a thick vanilla custard in a crisp shortcrust pastry and sprinkled with cinnamon. I have a lovely old recipe and I make a lot of them for extra income.
Try stirring whipped cream through it

It's funny, the very first time i heard Steve's voice i HATED it, it sounded like it was going to be some dudebro-type of voice, but I quickly turned around on that. It's easily my favourite voice now, mellow and relaxing to listen to as he tears into ancient (and current) military rations for our enjoyment as much as his.

Hey Steve just want to say thanks! My grandfather passed away recently & my mother has taken it very hard. She mentioned some of her favorite memories of her father was him bringing MRE's home from commissary & her and her sisters eating all the goodies out of them. When I introduced her to your videos they brought back a lot of those happy times for her, thanks.

it would be typical of the NZDF to have half of it be stuff you can get at the local supermarket xD all except the retort pouches(and contents) and the heater can be found at any supermarket(and probably the custard in the pouch)
Also, hot custard is best by itself.

Another great review, thanks! On a side note, I find the most interesting MRE's are the ones that have to be heated, whether flameless or flame. If I was on patrol, I'd want a hot meal when it's time to eat. Just my 2 cents.....................

Yeah, this is relaxing talk......opening, studying and enjoying preserved food packets from around the world......such a serene attitude towards food packets. There is a weird enjoyment in subsisting, for a time, on shelf-stable MRE packs. Watching someone else enjoying this type of thing helps it seem like a legit hobby.
The musical spoons are utterly satisfying and a ‘nice’ addition to your videos.
I cant watch these unless im eating, going to eat, or have just stuffed myself full....it makes me too hungry especially with how good he makes what looks like bad school food sound xD

NZ defence get some great rations. I've had a few and they have all been mouth-watering and delicious. The stuff they had in the 90's was even better(although canned). I remember eating a lamb and pea stew back then and it was the best thing I had tasted in my life.
