  • Always beware of those prices that look too good to be true online. If a jersey is being sold at below cost, you might be looking at a fake.

I keep seeing those ads for the fakery website. They’re doing such a disservice.
Also the stamping on the NHL emblem is almost never accurate. It’s not aligned with the shield and the banner.

The fanatics jerseys are “official”, but they’re still crap. Upset that Adidas doesn’t make the women’s cut like Reebok did. The men’s jerseys arms are just WAY too long & wide, and they just don’t fit right. Sadly, only fanatics make the women’s cut.
    I LOVE the strings!!!

The one fake on my collection I have a weird love for is a Penguins Winter Classic jersey that isn’t based on the real design, but a fan version that was going around earlier. So there is no ‘authentic’ version of that one. Always wondered if the guy who drew it up ever found out that it got made and sold online.

I got dooped on eBay with a ccm linden jersey once about 12 years ago, as soon as I opened the package the weird smell was obvious (petroleum product) and then of course there were all the tell tale signs of fakery. I was lucky whereas the seller immediately responded to my displeasure and refunded my full payment stating “ I never said it was authentic” but then again he never said it was fake!

Great video! I used to collect Pops and while I've sold most I've kept a lot of them and fakes started popping up as I stopped collecting. I collect Lego and there's fakes of those but they're easy to spot. When it comes to clothes and especially shoes the fakes are much harder to spot. If you know what you're looking at and you own some jerseys it's easy to spot fakes but if you don't know much about them and if it's your first jersey then you'll probably get scammed.
I own 4 NFL, 2 NCAA Football, 1 NHL Jersey. As my first jerseys I bought 1 off Ebay and 1 off Mercari. After buying them I found out about fakes and after doing research I was sure the one from Ebay was fake and I was pretty sure the one from Mercari was fake. Luckily the Ebay seller hadn't shipped yet so I was able to cancel the order and get the listing taken down since he was trying to sell it as legit. I let the seller on Mercari know I thought his jersey was fake and he ensured me it was not. It came in and it was fake like I thought I sent it back. After the return he was getting angry and trying to prove to me it was real while ignoring all of my proof it was fake. His listings all got shut down and he went off on me saying I flagged them but I didn't yet as I was trying to educate the man.
I've shared my knowledge with others and even wrote guides on spotting fakes in my Ohio State Buckeyes, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, & Tampa Bay Lightning Facebook groups. Sometimes people are thankful and sometimes they get angry.
I won't ever buy fake items but I won't judge others either. I just want people to know what they're getting and if they're buying fakes to not to not pay $75 or so thinking they're getting an authentic jersey at a great a deal when they cold get it for $30. I also won't tell people they're wearing fakes unless they ask. I have a coworker who has a ton of jerseys and they're all fake but I don't say shit.
I do understand both sides though as buying fakes is taking money from the sport. I also understand the other side as jerseys can be quite overpriced and not everyone has $100-$200+ to spend on a Football or Hockey jersey. I think the only time I get annoyed is the college jerseys and the Salute To Service jerseys. My problem with the NCAA jerseys is these kids aren't getting paid so wearing a jersey with their name on it is pretty shitty. My big issue is the fake Salute To Service jerseys because they take money from charity. When you buy a NFL jersey the proceeds go to the NFL and the teams, players, ect get some of it. When you buy a legit Salute Your Troops jersey the proceeds don't go to the NFL but instead go to a number of charity's for veterans like the Wounded Warrior Project, various USO projects, Pat Tillman Foundation, and many others. If you buy a fake Salute to Service then that means 0% of the proceeds go to those charites and 100% go to China. I just can't imagine anything less American than buying a fake jersey that is supposed to honor and support the troops from China and none of your money actually going to the veterans. Even if you're not American but love football I can't see anything less respectful than this. If there was a Canadian Hockey version or something where you could buy a jersey variant and the proceeds would go to Canadian Veterans I'd buy one.
In conclusion this is a great video for people who are looking to buy a jersey and know the differences if they're not sure if they want a real or fake one or at least know what they're looking for in spotting fakes. A lot of times people who buy fakes tell me people won't know the difference and in a way you're right because people aren't fans, most casual fans, fans who aren't into jerseys, and even the educated fans from far away won't see the difference. The other side to that is that I've seen many fakes with wrong shades of colors or the wrong color entirely, typos on the team or player name, wrong numbers, wrong emblems, horrible stitching, and many other issues that would be give away the jersey as fake to even the uninitiated. The big thing is that you will know will know it's fake and even if you're cool with that you have to understand that because it's so much cheaper you're missing out on craftsmanship and materials. The numbers be will stiff and not move with your body, it will feel heavier and even uncomfortable, that material that helps that helps keep you cool is no where to be found, and there is many others because the materials are different and cheap. I've also noticed that the fake jerseys are itchy to me and I've heard others say they gave their a minor allergic reaction. I have also been told the fake jerseys stink and after you wash them they still smell because of the materials and if you sweat it smells more and because the materials you might end up sweating if you're wearing it in a warm room or on a warm day.

My dad (may he rest in peace) got me a Marchand WCH jersey, the first year Adidas made NHL jerseys. Unfortunately a couple years down the line I bought an authentic St Patrick's Day practice jersey, and realized a lot of bad inconsistencies with the WCH and St. Patrick's. Turns out he bought me a fake. It's a good quality fake though, so it's not like most people will notice, and it isn't exactly a common jersey.

Full Moon Jerseys on ebay sells authentic licensed product at excellent, below cost prices. Below cost is legit in their case because they purchase high volume (thousands of them) as close outs from adidas. Close outs mean discontinued jerseys and/or traded player jerseys. So while they are below normal cost, they are legit, 100%.

I'm pissed that they were misleading but I compared the jersey to my Adidas Winter Classic jersey and the quality is pretty much identical. There's no way I'm sending it back since the Adidas ones are actually sold out everywhere, and no way I'm spending over $200 for a very very similar product. That's exactly what angers me with fakes - the gall of the person to describe it as authentic. I have 2 fakes. One was expected - it was a good price and the seller was completely honest in their description. The other one... either the seller didn't know they had a fake or they are piece of garbage. Lesson learned.

  • @dustyb58
    @dustyb58 5 лет назад +2

So... I'm watching this, and I recently bought a Jets Byfuglien jersey, and the seller also had a Hellebuyck jersey... and I bet it's the same one I saw, but I preferred Byfuglien to add to my collection. It's super passable to me EXCEPT the fight strap did look a bit poor, but I didn't have anything to compare it to until I got an Oilers authentic I bought off the Adidas store. But I have no other Jets jersey to compare, so it was hard to know. These seem more passable than the Reebok, as I always looked for Indonesia over Canada. But this is good stuff to know going forward.
Mine DOES have the button, it clearly says CLIMALITE, The logo stitching is similar to the fake you show. Well, damn. I'm let down, but I do still think it looks better than some of them out there. I don't NEED it to be real and expensive, but I need it to look real. I'm just not looking to spend $220 or whatever for authentic, but Fanatic jerseys are garbage. When I see a Red Wings jersey with a name on it and there's a nameplate or the lettering is clearly the wrong font/number style... those get me angry.

To be honest, I’ve seen some pretty bad fakes, but looking at mine I still like them. I think the fact that I had to double check “is this fake” means that it looks close to the original instead of being way off to begin with, so I’ll still use them or give them to a friend who’s a casual watcher of the game.

While I agree that this particular fake is awful, I wouldn't say they all are. I bought multiple fake jerseys, never expecting anything else, and they are nowhere this bad. I can't afford the originals, it's even more expensive when you're from Eastern Europe, and I am happy with what I got.

For the price, I’d take the fake one. They are probably both made in the same sweat shop in China by 12 year olds anyhow.

Awesome vid!!! Buffalo has new jersey’s and i just got mine in the mail from pre order and i’m happy to say it doesn’t have strings!!! Also it is an aeroready and not climalite interesting!! can you explain what the difference is?

The only difference I can tell is the Climalite has a button on the bottom. And Aeroready does not.

If i buy a jersey from NHL.com does the team of the jersey purchased get most of it, or how does all that work? I don't care what the price of a jersey is for the team i cheer for, i'll pay it if it means i support them

I always believe you get what you pay for. I ordered a carter hart jersey from Philadelphia Flyers.com. Why they didn’t get the license for that website is beyond me. It took two week to get it. When I checked the tracking and it said it was coming from Korea the republic I knew it was gonna be fake. It’s not a horrible fake better then some but you can see the differences right away. I should of looked to see if it was flyers Wells Fargo center website. Oh well live and learn but that’s why I always order from amazon or nhl shop

I see soooo many fake Colorado jerseys when I go to Avs games. It always bothers me cause to me they should support the team and buy real. But the fake Avalanche ones are sooo easy to spot. Whether it's the incorrect shade of burgundy or the obvious incorrect lettering for the names and numbers.

are jerseys that you buy at retail stores ever fake? because if not then there definitely seems to be different "tiers" of jerseys that you can buy at dicks sporting goods in hockey and football at least. i have a wayne simmonds jersey that has silk like stitched on numbering and a claude giroux jersey bought a few years earlier for much cheaper that has more patched on numbering.

Would a fake Jersey come with an NHL tag claiming it’s authenticity? And could someone check out Flash Jerseys? Bought two from them and I’m wondering if they’re fake or not.

Hey buddy I have a question I’m getting a hockey jersey off of eBay which excepts returns and it says authentic with tags in the description now it’s only $65 it’s an old Winnipeg Jets heroes of hockey jersey with selanne on the back with his number 13. If the sizing on the tag says 52 and not 2XL does that automatically mean it’s 100% fake?
Thank you so much I’m hoping it’s not fake because who would make an old-school Winnipeg Jets fake jersey

Ugh, those Walmart shoes. :( When I first started working again, I had 2 retail jobs, about 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Wally's shoes were all I could afford. They actually held up okay, but my feet didn't. It didn't take long before I would come home from a long day at work with my arches and ankles on FIRE. NEVER buying Walmart shoes again. >:(

What do you think of Fanatics Jerseys? I a few months back bought my first hockey jersey and at the time I didn’t know there was a difference between adidas and fanatics and I’m slightly disappointed that I got a new blank Devils for $90 and it’s not really that nice.

Just wanted to thank you for your work. I was about to buy a jersey off a buy/sell app. Something didn’t feel right. The nhl logo looked right but o just had a feeling. Everything looked good but then o noticed the laces were too long and the eye holes were silver and not white. So it was obviously fake. While I was googling and comparing authentic adidas jerseys adidas had it for 50% off so the hockey gods had my back. That was off of adidas.com I got the last one and it was my size.
