My Dad told me a story of an interview that Tiger Williams had after the Flying V was released and the reporter asked what he thought of the new jerseys. The Canucks also were coming off of a bad season, and all Williams apparently said was "Last year we played like clowns, this year we are dressing like them".
When they were first introduced...the Kings had full gold unis (including the pants) which made the Kings players look like taxi cabs with legs... The only thing you prayed for with Vancouver was that the game was radio only...but even those jerseys were too ugly for radio...
Yo it’s so weird LOL that he was a Canucks fan randomly even Ivan hlinka (rip) tiger Williams commented on his play on the Canucks when he was over here
I always liked that jersey because I would always use the Predators in old NHL games because i hated using blue as the home jersey. At a higher resolution, the truth comes out.

I laughed when I read your comment. I always said that whoever designed the Coyotes jersey must have did way too many peyote buttons. Wait a minute, peyote, coyote...
I love the 90s St Louis jersey. I was near tears when i saw them on the ice wearing it this year. Its such a good jersey, but honestly, I think the white one is lackluster. I love the blue one, have an original and a rerelease. As you're a well versed hockey fan, I'm sure you're very likely aware of the "trumpet" jersey that wasn't used. Very rare. And because it wasn't used, isnt necessarily a fit for this list. I would love one, myself, but the players sounded like they were borderline striking over that jersey.
The 5 worst: 5: Dallas (Mooterus) 4: Los Angeles (Burger King) 3: Anaheim (Wild Wing) 1: Tie: Vancouver (Flying V), Nashville (Grey Poupon) and the reason those two are tied at the top is sheer volume of on ice appearances. Even finding action photos of the other three is relatively rare. Those two were worn so often it is incredible. Absolutely brilliant takedowns of those jerseys. Top shelf analysis. Bravo.
No, and I will tell you why: The Mooterus was so hideous that they realized pretty quickly they needed to burn them and never speak of them again. There were entire SEASONS than Nashville wore those mustard monstrosities more than their primary jerseys. It was an awful look that they just refused to acknowledge was an abomination unto Lord Stanley of Preston.
I live in Canada and I used to catch a few Rockies' games on radio. I am eternally grateful to the Devils for beating the fat-assed Texans in 2000, and those Disneyland Ducks in 2003; because they kept the Cup out of the sun belt.
I remember I want to say it was an All Star game segment in the late 80's or early 90's, with Alex Trebek doing a comedy skit, and at one point he described the Canucks flying V jersey as " A chameleon wandered into the Canucks dressing room. And exploded." The details may be hazy but that (and the jersey itself) have stuck with me all these years.
That awful Sabres third is officially dubbed the “turd burger” after a quote from (now former) team president Ted Black. Just a complete eyesore all around.
Gus The slug is pretty bad, but the turd burger might be worse. As a Sabres fan, we have multiple bad options to choose from. 😬 At least we’re going back to royal blue next season, so the jerseys should look good even if we’re trash in the standings.
Gus No, the turd burger is that garish Sabres sweater Shannon showed in the video. I’m kinda bummed the organization didn’t bring back the buffalo head for 2000s Night last year when we marked our 50th anniversary season.
@Gus The slug gets a bad rap, mostly because Buffalo announced at the time (back in 2006) that they were going back to blue and gold (after a decade wearing black and red), but then brought out those instead of the royal blue originals many were hoping for. The turd burger is the only Sabres jersey that I actually had any legitimate dislike for.
Buffalo 3 Star Ugly Jersey : #3 Red Jersey with two crossed swords in a black circle, #2 The Buffalo Slug, #1 the Ted Black Turd Burger jersey. And as a side note, when it comes to being successful in the NHL, Terry Pegula will ALWAYS be a clueless buffoon.
The whole ugly thing is so subjective because look at the ugly Christmas sweater. It’s almost “hip” or trendy to wear ugly stuff. Just look at runway models, they’re constantly wearing ugly stuff.
Man, talking about how ugly Islanders jersey’s are but showing the orange one with the original crest instead of the black one that just says “Isles” across it is downright criminal.
Glad to see you agree with me about Old Blasty, Shannon. I literally have no idea why some Flames fans want that thing to come back. And I also had the EXACT same thought as yourself, when they unveiled it on local news in Calgary in what.... 1998? 1999? I was 9 or 10, watching the news with my Dad, and the curtain came down with all the Flames and effects and blah blah blah.... I said to my Dad "Is that supposed to be a dragon?" He said "I think its supposed to be a Horse because of the Stampede." Definitely an early childhood hockey memory that sticks out.
That Arizona jersey is one of my favorites along side the other Kachina jersey. Also I 100% agree on that particular Stars jersey. It was horrible in my opinion, way to plain for a team who's jersey's are normally pretty cool looking with exception to a few(The Winter Classic 2020 jersey for instance which looks like complete shit, and the 03-06 Thirds jersey with that god awful bull thing logo on the front). Note on the 03-06 Thirds Jersey for Dallas, The San Antonio Rampage use a revised version of that old logo and it looks fantastic
living as an Oilers fan in the West of Scotland, the change of blue colour shade is actually refreshing and helps to garner less hate from bigoted football fans compared to the pre-adidas jerseys 😂 (look up Celtic Rangers rivalry)
I think it would be interesting to look at which mid-90's third and current stadium series abomination are actually aesthetically pleasing. I love when teams modernize - whether it's improving an existing design or modernizing a historical look - but I think I can count 3rd jerseys that I like on one hand. I do like the idea of having different jerseys but most are just poorly done.
The Calgary Flames horse is beautiful to me. Being born in the year of the firehorse according to the Chinese calendar, I saw that jersey one Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada and decided I had to have it. First time I wore it, it scared little children.
Any time the Sharks release a black jersey, it instantly becomes their ugliest jersey to me. Their teal jerseys are beautiful and forgoing them is an absolute crime in my opinion.
horror/thriller author sez: As a lifelong student of design and diehard Blues fan, I'd say you're spot-on with most of your assessments (NAILING that God-awful Blues jersey with the rounded-edged Blue Note featuring "St. Louis," the inexplicable use of red, and the nightmarish slant of both striping and numbers; can't see these jerseys without thinking of Yzerman's crushing double OT goal). That being said, think you misfired on several, including Carolina (while the "storm warning" flags work better as shoulder patches than stripes, the abstract logo is destined to be a classic), Chicago (striking overall design; best throwback jersey of the bunch), Edmonton (actually like the orange), L.A. (while the overall design is dubious, think the fierce-looking "King's Head" would make a great logo if it were larger and centered), and Vancouver: along with Phoenix's original "kachina" jersey, a bold, ahead-of-its-time statement that is destined to be a classic.
Joonas Ehro If you mean the one with numbers on the front, I'd have to agree. Flying V is ugly, but at least it's unique. That Dallas jersey is just like they thought they couod copy from basketball.
That Avs jersey just makes it look like you're wearing a bib or a napkin. Maybe if they lowered the "A" so it's not right up against the neck it would look better.
I’ve always thought that the Lighthouse from the shoulder of the Islanders Capt. Fishsticks jersey would have made a good main logo. Personally the Rangers jersey with New York is my favourite.
Shannon, can you tell how "wide" a hockey jersey should be for say, fan usage at home? I'm 6'1 (186cm) tall and quite slim, is 26"(pit to pit) jersey too big? Could you give some pointers? Thanks.
HOnestly could care less about this video but as a Nashville preds fan, since the franchise was formed, I can say one of our favorite jerseys was the one you picked out. It’s a classic out here. Not sure what you see wrong with it.... it’s everything you want from a vintage jersey.
I have been considering a fanatics NYI Fisherman for a while. I haven't been able to bring myself to move on it, because I've heard people tell me fanatics logos crease easily and permanently. Have you heard of, or had that happen? You are 100% right. If you can't fork over at least $250 you can't get that jersey in a CCM or Starter.
Come on the Hawk's new alternate jersey is beautiful! I have my Kaner one and I am in love with it. The numbers are almost like a felt material and they're beautifully done. But hey, props to you for loving Hawks jerseys in general!
Hi Shannon, there’s a question I always want to know and wish to seek your view. From your perspective, why those “cartonish” jerseys in the 90s are seldom brought back again by the teams or manufacturers despite they are highly popular? I am thinking if it is simply that they are more expensive to produce? I am kind of disappointed to keep seeing that many jerseys out there are still being very conservative.
I've gotta be honest, a lot of the ones you've shown are some of my all-time favorite jerseys. That Colorado Rockies especially. I think that's gorgeous. That St. Louis Blues is among my favorite Blues jerseys. As far as the ducks go, I'll take anything with that logo on it over the new logo. And finally, I will take the Gortons fisherman Islanders jersey over the boring blue and orange seal EVERY day of the week.
The Preds mustard jerseys literally just look like someone took the current Nashville uniforms, peed on them, and slapped a high school mascot logo on the chest.
Really enjoying some of your vlogs now, with the hints of subtle humour! The “Ugly jerseys” and a couple of recent ones have been great. Couple more weeks and you’ll be a drooling mess! Keep it up. Stay safe, hockey needs you
For the Oilers current home jersey, I think if they went with the royal blue instead of the navy blue, it could have looked a lot better. It would have made it so there wasn’t such a drastic contrast.
My sister went out west for a vacation and she visited Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver, she had 4 choices to choose from for a hockey jersey and that's what she picked, the black flying V. I gave it to my nephew...
So my team (Flyers) since were the only team in all of nhl history that never changed their main logo, (ed snyder never wanted to change the main logo) I'd say our worst color scheme honestly is our stadium series jersey from 2019. The main logo was devoid of any color and it literally looked like street cones. Not creative at all. But we at least won that game and I was there. So that was good.
My Dad told me a story of an interview that Tiger Williams had after the Flying V was released and the reporter asked what he thought of the new jerseys. The Canucks also were coming off of a bad season, and all Williams apparently said was "Last year we played like clowns, this year we are dressing like them".

During their playoff run in 82 their ugliness was somewhat trendy. Also remember Roger Nielson's white towel waving in the crowd.
Me: 2020 is going to be a very good year
2020: Predators Mustard Jersey
Your welcome, back to Earth you go.
I always liked that jersey because I would always use the Predators in old NHL games because i hated using blue as the home jersey. At a higher resolution, the truth comes out.

Hockey jerseys are not fashionable.

Don’t forget to say “sens”
I had a visceral reaction to the sight of that Nashville jersey. That's the worst thing I've ever seen
Wha-. Wdym!?!?!? It's so ugly it's beautiful! How dare you say that.
This is my exact feeling but about that monstrosity of a Colorado jersey. Some mixture of disgust and anger.
I like that jersey, very artistic I know the mustard colour misses the mark but if it was a white jersey it really wouldn’t be that bad
The Buffalo sweater kinda looks like a practice sweater.
I live in Lockport, NY. The Sabres play like a PRACTICE TEAM. A reflection of the owner ... Terry PIG-gula.
You need a name and number on the back to get the full effect. Gray letters and numbers with yellow trim. BARF!
I'm disappointed the Islanders never tried their lighthouse logo as a jersey crest. I think that would look pretty sharp on a third jersey.
Agreed.
The “fish sticks” logo is ripe for those of us who love the hated jerseys. Making this a 3rd would be brilliant.
"Ugliest jersey from every team...that I all purchased anyway!" That guy is awesome! 🤣
I love the 90s St Louis jersey. I was near tears when i saw them on the ice wearing it this year. Its such a good jersey, but honestly, I think the white one is lackluster. I love the blue one, have an original and a rerelease.

Die hard stars fan here. The Mooterus Jersey is by far the ugliest jersey ever created
If the blues had released the trumpet jersey. It would be number one on the list of ugliest jersey easily.
Brandon Cotter but it’s also the funniest Jersey ever

There were entire SEASONS than Nashville wore those mustard monstrosities more than their primary jerseys. It was an awful look that they just refused to acknowledge was an abomination unto Lord Stanley of Preston.
The Burger King jersey is way uglier.
I'm a Stars fan too, but the Mooterus jersey is ugly as hell.
23 minutes of Shannon roasting the Islanders' design team. Love the vid Shannon! Cheers from Michigan.
The Chicago one would look pretty good if they’d added a minimal amount of red to the logo.
Late to the party, but I'm a Blackhawks and White Sox fan so it hits the right notes for me.
Do people not like the Rockies jerseys? I absolutely love those!
Right? Plus the avs have been making off brand versions of it with their alternates

Saw the Sabers one and at first it’s ok not the worst but the you see the back
Is that Anaheim jersey trying to replicate the color scheme from the Minnesota Waves Jersey from D2?
It's the same shade of green of the classic Mighty Ducks colors. I don't know why it looks that far blue in the video.
Keep it up. Stay safe, hockey needs you
“That’s genius Fred! Everybody go home!” LMAO
I agree the Blackhawks generally don't have a bad jersey. I do like the look of the black one you showed.
For the Oilers current home jersey, I think if they went with the royal blue instead of the navy blue, it could have looked a lot better. It would have made it so there wasn’t such a drastic contrast.
I found the Barber Pole Canadiens jersey for 25$ on marketplace
That Calgary jersey looks like a stock option in a create your own team mode in an early 2000s video game.
My sister went out west for a vacation and she visited Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver, she had 4 choices to choose from for a hockey jersey and that's what she picked, the black flying V. I gave it to my nephew...
For a primary jersey: Black Capital Building
For a speciality jersey: 2015 Winter Classic, which I still find crazy how it won the Caps jersey bracket
That Arizona jersey is fire!!!!
Coyotes jersey is amazing you are out your mind bro
Instead of an insult, you could say which one you would have chosen for that team.
I loved the flyers 2019 stadium series jerseys
Maybe I'm too high buuut that Arizona jersey is pretty cool
I still don't understand why Dallas changed their logo from the 2006/7 star. One of the best logos ive seen
