      It'll be fun! We often have Cantonese speakers there actually. But it's not gonna be on the 1st -- probably the week after. I'll send an email. Your Cantonese is better than mine now, for sure. I really struggle to get enough practice.

      YES, in fact I have met many people speak Cantonese fluently
      after have been HK for 1 year(max 2 years). It's easy.
      If you can find a ORIGINAL HK person to teach you proper Cantonese, you can do that as they know the correct and proper way to learn Cantonese.

    • @rafaelbolzani
      @rafaelbolzani 3 года назад

      I agree, Olly. I'm also learning cantonese and you are the one who inspired me so much. Your cantonese video encouraged me to try. I'm your fan. And by the way, your brazilian Portuguese is great! (I'm brazilian and I watched your video speaking Portuguese). Now, I see Alex also speaking so fluent cantonese! wow, you two guys are just amazing. Do ze saai!

    As a native Cantonese speaker, your Cantonese is pretty good, especially since you're not native, and it's REALLY hard to learn as a non-native speaker. Tbh your tones are a little off, but I can defintely tell what you're trying to say and PLEASE continue to learn and speak Cantonese, you're doing great!

    Serious props to you for learning Cantonese! It is such a hard language - especially learning it when you're not in HK! - and you are doing amazingly well. I grew up in HK and I can count on one hand the number of foreigners I know who can say more than 'lei ho' - and many of those people were born and raised in HK. I cannot tell you how nice it is to see someone make the effort to learn the language. I see that you're coming to London soon! There's loads of Canto speakers in London and I'm sure you'll find loads of people to practice the language with. Keep up the good work! :)

    Alex, I just found your channel. You should be very proud of your accomplishment thus far. You've posted this 4 years ago so I am sure that your Cantonese is amazing by now. You speak very well. I understand you fine although I agree with the other commentators that your tone needs a little bit of work. But you'll get it in time. My advice to you (which you are already doing) practice using the language on a regular basis with native speakers. They are your best teachers. Never be afraid of feedback. It'll only help you to improve. Best of luck, my friend!

    Hey Alex, your Cantonese is very amazing! Although there is British accent in your speaking, the sentences are very fluent and correct! I really appreciate your persistence in learning Cantonese. It doesn't matter if you mispronounce the words because it's undoubted that Cantonese is one of the most difficult languages to be learnt in the world, most of Hong Kong people would comprehend your speaking if you talk with us. And you thought inspires me to learn a new language because it's good to know more about one country's culture by learning its language. It's such a great attitude! Keep going and you are welcome to talk with me if you want to know more about Cantonese. Sorry for my poor English. :P

    I am impressed with what you have picked up after a year Alex! CONGRATS. I was told my cantonese was worse than a five-year-old kiddo when I speak.And my vocal is only enough to help me get by in a basic conversation. I am likely to switch between English and Cantonese in a conversation and always end up speaking solely English. Not that I don't want to work on my Cantonese, its just that i feel more comfortable to express myself in English and Vietnamese given the fact that neither of those languages are my mother tongue. Having seen your video, I seriously need to figure out a way to improve my poor Canto. I can say that exposing yourself to an environment in which you can only use Canto to communicate will definitely help and also watching lots of TVB dramas/movies might help you expand your vocabulary and pick up local lingo along the way.

    Excellent stuff, especially as you've only been at it for a year! I'm BBC, grew up learning Cantonese from family and although my accent is fluid, my vocabulary has always been a bit poor. I can hear your pronunciation is a 'little' rigid / hard but seeing as you've gotten this good after such a short amount of time I reckon that your canto would be really strong if you spent another year in HK surrounded by hong kongers. So good to see a fellow Brit learning such a difficult language, I had a tough enough time learning German at school.!

    Hey Alex, that's a great effort for one year's worth of learning! I think your pronunciation and range of words is fantastic. You sound quite monotone at times though, but you'll get better in time.

    That's pretty impressive. Cantonese has many different pronunciations and it is hard to pick up. As a Cantonese speaker in NYC, I think this is pretty good!

    Hong Konger here:) I think you can master Cantonese pretty well already, good job!
    I wonder if you are learning the Chinese characters and written Cantonese as well. If you want a more entertaining way of learning, I guess besides watching movies,listening to some Cantonese songs would be good.

    You're my idol. 😳. You really learned all this from home on your own? In just over a year? Very impressive. The tones made me give up . Plus probably a bit of laziness and not actually living in HK. But I'd love to be able to learn from a tutor in person one day soon. Don't like the idea of doing over the internet. Well done, young man. Keep going
