She is a first grade teacher, I am going to burn some boards and then her kids are going to use Kool Aid to stain them after words the will trace their hands and write their names on them. After I Finish them they will give them to their parents. Thanks for the inspiration.

    When using alcohol, I think you have to mix with water first because the dye will dissolve in water and then you mix in some alcohol. Idk, alcohol _might_ make the water evaporate quicker but water is certainly a necessity, at least as a carrier.

    Hey brother love your videos, have been doing some experiments with food coloring and koolaid as well and I have noticed or didn’t notice if you did but did you try using vinegar with either? As my lovely and so brilliant girlfriend pointed out that they suggest you use it when dying eggs and I was actually surprised that it did make a huge difference in the color grabbing the wood, 🤣🤣🤣 but would love to get some feedback if possible. And the shirt is when you got me as a lifer because I have that shirt as well and it’s my favorite shirt to wear on the rare occasion that I go out to places that are very peopley!!! Keep doing what you do brother definitely diggin it!!!

      I am a fiber artist and dye with all kinds of things including kool-aid. The reason you need vinegar is to change the pH so that the dye is accepted. Eggs and animal fiber need the acidity, wood is naturally acidic and does not.

  • @kr2513

    Very cool. I'm guessing the pigment wouldn't have much UV strength so maybe this isn't good for outdoor applications. Not sure though would definitely appreciate a follow up on how they hold up

    Have you tried mixing with vinegar to darken the color? The darkens after some coats of bleach and may have a different result on the darker wood with the cool aid.

  • @sinformant
    @sinformant 2 года назад

    What if you stained them first and then charred them? My thoughts would be that they may take on more stain. In my mind charring the wood first may release some resins in the wood that may inhibit the saturation of stain to a certain extent

    Most grape flavored drinks including grape Kool-Aid is based off the flavor of the black grape which is a very dark shade of purple that can look black at a glance

    The leather dyes looked better

    Sorry, but im going to have to put my 2 cents in here. Any kind of food dye, or koolaid is not going to hold the color for very long. I find fabric dye works much better. The uv rays tend to make color fade fast, unless the product has uv inhibitors in it. Such as fabric dye, alumalite, etc. Hope this helps save someone from the misconception.

    Sorry man.. I appreciate your enthusiasm and all but I can’t take it. It all just became a bit too obnoxious after about 2 minutes of it. I do wish you well though... Later
