My first CD was Joe Stariani The Extremist and I still have it to this day. It's also still my favorite instrumental guitar album
Then you need to listen to more albums!
@@GuitarguyRichard56 such as?
@@mimimimi228 Surfing with the alien, flying in a blue dream, joe satriani (red album), time machine, and crystal planet are classical ones
I have followed Joe since the early days when Surfing came out.....and of all his albums, I find the Extremist to be the greatest also. It has stood the test of time. Flying In A Blue Dream is why I started playing guitar, but Extremist is beyond instrumental guitar and into something of legend!
Try Not of This Earth
My neighbor gave me the Surfing with the Alien cassette tape in 1988. Changed my life, "Always with me, always with you" was my love song ballad. Been and remain a fan!
The quiet Super hero!! A Giant in the guitar WORLD!! Glad he stuck with it!! Peace brother
I was attending GIT in Hollywood when a small group of us discovered, “Not of This Earth”. We’d literally huddle around. Boom box in one of the practice studios at night just listening and loving every note. What a great memory that is! Thank you Joe!
I used to play in a Satch tribute band called, "Lords of Karma." Eh, like 92 - 93 just after the Extremist came out. My fav. to play off Not of This Earth was definitely, Hordes of Locusts. We'd play at jam nights and people were like, "WTF is this?" Ah, the good old days.
Joe and Steve should have an instrumental rock station on Sirius/XM. I would keep it on all the time. They can play their songs plus classics like 3rd stone and Frankenstein, Orion, Eruption, And all the legendary rock songs that get lost but people love!
I love that Joe is genuine, one of the most down to earth surfing aliens ever. Great interview 🎸
I was blessed to be able to meet him in person after a show in 2006 and Eric Johnson in Atlanta, both and walked away more amazed by his humility in person same with Johnson, and very relatable. Love him even more now than before.
Yes, I've met them both at different times and EJ is very personable; a true southern gentleman
EJ is s humble guy as well.
The Master, The Guru, The Legend. All Hail Satriani~ Can't wait to get the full album and of course to see him live again~
What a really nice guy. So humble. The true measure of being an all time great is being able to recognize when other people are great as well. His comment on young guitar players was amazing. You guys did a great job in the interview touching on the past while talking about the future. Well done.
Thank you!!
Met him once in the parking lot st NAMM. So gracious and appreciative.
Joe's comment on HOW people listen to music now is sooooooooo right on the money!!!!! Sad, but right on the money.
Excellent interview 👏
I remember seen him live in Athens, Greece, late '80s or early '90s, something I wouldn't expect to happen! Of course I ran for a ticket when I heard it and went to the venue. A couple of years later Steve Vai came and I went there, too! Good experiences to see those players perform live in front of you.
Joe is an absolute treasure in the music industry
💡🙏🎸🎶 Joe is one of my favorite Guitarist 🤩 Grew up listening to him However now as I am older I have I a entire new respect for Joe 💪 Brilliance
I bought Joe's 1st record the day it came out. He is the first Rock guitar player to write Rock instrumentals over an entire album and at the same times re-invent the guitar approach. A true visionary man and player. God Bless you Joe.
Huge fan of Joe, everything he does is great. Ronnie Montrose had an all instrumental album back in 1978 though, 8 years prior to Satch’s first LP.
@@charliejamz. Your right! I bought it. But it was just that 1 album correct?
My Joe story - big fan as an 18 year old around 1988 - 1989. Worked at a Camelot Music store outside of Nashville at the time. I talked the manager into ordering several copies of Surfing With the Alien because I knew it was gonna be a hit. But this was before it broke out. A few weeks go by and the boss is a little ticked off that it wasn’t selling. Then the song broke out and we sold every copy in a weekend. Joe was playing the Exit Inn that year and I got my ticket- I was pumped! Went to Cat’s Music and met him and Stu Hamm - got the cd sleeve autographed - met the legend - he was cool! Went to the show that night and… got thrown out for being under 21 before the show even started! Man I was so bummed - I had told everyone who came in that store about him and felt like they got to see him and I didn’t! I didn’t get another chance to see him until the 😨G3 show with Steve and Kenny Wayne Shepherd in Memphis at Mud Island. It was worth the wait! Glad your still making music Joe!!!
Come on, there have always been people who loved good classical and instrumental music, such music will never disappear in this world
Would love to see some footage of Satch playing that Franky... Great video guys...
Nice to see evh amps
100% vinyl is a traditional age old fidelity experience, almost a religious way of listening to music that pretty much we all grew up with, sadly since the creation of the the CD, vinyl faded away but he hardcore music buffs, like myself still appreciate the 'art' of taking the vinyl out of it's sleeve, holding it, feeling the weight in your hands, inspecting the grooves, laying it on the turntable, lowering the stylus, and hearing that initial crackle then the sound production leaves the speakers and enters your ears! That's an experience you cannot get with CDs. Yes vinyl takes up much more space in your home, but so do books. Nowadays books are eBooks and the same digital age is taking over our lives. The same experience applies to books, looking ta the cover, feeling the weight of the book, turning the pages, holding the book in your hands, etc.Long live vinyl!
How this doesn't have more views is beyond me. I like the guestions you guys asked good interview.
Really great interview fellas! Joe is such an energetic, creative soul!
Great interview guys!!! Man, that brought back a lot of memories. I’m gonna look into Joe’s new album, and try and catch him live. It is about time I see a legend like Joe in person.🤘🏻🇺🇸🎸
Great show boys...Satch is such a cool guy... I really enjoy hearing him talk...thanks for a great interview!!!
Met Joe at the Pterodactyl club in Charlotte ,July '88 Surfing tour. He was very cordial to a starstruck newbie on guitar and I've never forgotten his kindness and advice on the importance of a metronome for practice; Thanks Joe!
Joe is such a awesome guy. I bucket listed before I even knew I had a bucket. I was lucky enough to see him at Andrews Amphitheater on the University of Hawaii campus for the Surfing tour! Probably less that 2,000 people? Totally life changing show! Thanks Joe!!
Great interview. Such a humble guy and obviously a legend
Surfing With The Alien was the ONLY album I bought in the 80's - FULL STOP!!
Iconic album!
I bought Surfing With The Alien twice. Once on vinyl then on CD later. But to be fair, I also bought and wore out VH 1984 as well.
I heard that on the radio when it came out, was convinced Eddie made a solo album. Joe is soooo cool
These are so friggin good, and Joe is just so down to earth (like many of your guests). The bit about how people listen to music is so spot on and hilarious. I do collect vinyl and have ALL of my cd's from the 90's and early 2000's. Great thing about CD's = set it and forget it. Best thing about vinyl = respect the music and listen to everything in it. Thanks guys!
Satch, was one of my main influences for picking up the guitar. When I actually got to see him live, was on the "Flying In A Blue Dream" tour...way back in 1987....in Charlotte, NC. I was 17 then. Seeing Joe, live was a dream come true. 🎵🎶🤟🤟
such an amazing guitarist, My hero since I started. Love his music!!!
Yeeeees a new album !
It's sooooo cool !!!...
I knew Joe's music with "Not of this earth" and of course just agter with "Surfing with the alien"
I was 15 years old and like I'm french I could ses him for the first time on stage at the " Montreux Festival 1988 " ...it's the Live on DVD with the collector Surfing's Edition...💥🤩😍🎸🎵😋
And not 2 years after I was again in front of him in Nice for " Flying in a blue dream Tour "...I met him so several times free and never missed a Tour....
Now with "The Meet'n Greet" it' so cool to spend a moment with him and since 1988 he's still the same...as so kind, nice, cool, funny and he talks with so much pleasure about all his career...his material...his way of playing etc...🐶👍
From all these years he has been the original sound track of my life...
He's The Master since '80...till now and will remain for ever...🍀
Healthy and happiness for you my idol...🤩👍🎼🎵🎶🎸🍀🍀🍀🍀
I have to say, Joe still looks relatively young and happy and healthy in 2022 and I'm so happy for that.
Joe Satriani is the real deal!
Increibly inspiring brilliant Guitarist Musician!!Great Interview Thank you!
Have faith Joe! Still a bunch of us who listen on really good headphones and hi-fi systems !!
great interview once again my friend
Grew up with my dad showing me satch, evh, vai! Never knew till much later this would be the best guitar playing I’d ever hear!
26:59 That's great advice. Always be prepared! And when you eventually are asked to do something, go for it, even if you still think, you are not prepared enough. That's probably the follow-up advice I'd give.
going to see satriani play in may in uk cant wait! bring on blue dream
Great interview. Thank you
Extremely cool and rare look at Joe, well done!
Surfing w the alien. Killer disc! Saw him at HOB in Myrtle back in the mid 90's. Kickass show! Had the chrome guitar and jacket. Perfect look onstage!
I have been with Joe since the beginning and although I did/do love those "MTV guys", I heard Joe's magic and his music definitely does the talking.
What's also interesting is that Steve Vai got a record deal before his teacher Satriani. It was Steve Vai himself that told Satch that Epic Records will probably be interested in him since they like the stuff Vai does.
I tell you, I totally get the segment on the way people listen to music. I'll never forget my Dad's story. In this little town of Old Trap NC. Where he grew up, R and B was like unheard of in the 40's, everyone listened to hillbilly, country type music, and folk music. However, my dad loved Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and all things Blues and the earliest versions of Rock. At around midnight one night, he went to the local Church, which is still standing today, went to the bell tower, consider this thing was made by stone masons and its a very solid building. He snuck in and went to the very top, about 50 feet up. Set up his 10 watt tube amp and his 45 record player and a couple full range speakers. No one back in that time knew anything about Hi fidelity. That was my dads interest , music and the quality of music. He turned it way up and plays Chuck Berry, My Ding-a-ling, for the entire town to hear at midnight. He said it was extremely loud and clear and what 200 some people lived in the area; he thinks they all heard it. My Dad was one of a kind. lol
Great story, Jason..your dad was unique!
A really cool guy! Joe Satriani! 🙏🏻👏🏻
One my biggest influence and never saw him play live.
Then he comes to Ottawa blues festival as im walking into the festival huge wind storm knocks the stage down.
Hence the show was canceled. Rrrrr.
I will see him live some day.
I heard surfing with the alien ,..satch boogie,..always with me,....got the album,...its been over every since,........Joe Satch,.....amazing the body of work over the years.
I have seen and heard a lot of shows. Joe had the best sounding guitar I have ever heard. The crazy thing was it was outside .
Sweet handsome Satriani!!! 🤗❤🙏👍👏 Love and Blessings to you!!! The Best Guitar man ever!!
Great interview.
Love Joe the very best .
It would be really cool to see him in a video playing the EVH.
I bought Surfing With the Alien when it came out. Been a fan since.
Love the fan-boy technical jargon angle. And Joe is possibly the nicest person in rock and roll.
Satch is such a kind humble man and awesome musician.Gr8 show, 👍. Chicken Foot kicks ass!!! Oops sorry spoke to soon bout Cfoot. Hey just you all stay healthy and keep making music 🎶 🎵.
his description of his rise to the top was amazing...I felt butterflies haha
Joe is my man loved every project he d done love when he takes kenny aronoff on his album 👏👏👏🤟🏼🤟🏼🇨🇦
Ive learned something by watching this. Not sure what, Ill come back in 10 years and elaborate.
In 2016 I met him PERSONALLY and we were allowed to stroll on the stage, and see up close all his guitars, amps, distortions etc., which he use in that concert. It was my 3 time Joe's concert and the BEST MUSIC EXPERIENCE EVER, and probably FOREVER in my poor ordinary life! (-: When I'm listen his music often I cryin - from HAPPINESS! (-: Boldly I can say, that I am Joe's BIGGEST FAN on EARTH!!! (-:(-:(-:
P.S. ''IBANEZ'' honored him alive and dedicate to him a model of their brand ''JS''. I think that this is the only one guitar trademark, which dedicate a full signature model to guitarist? Correct me, if I'm wrong! (-:
absolutely huge impact on me in 1987; let alone him
Joe's the best guitar song writer out there in my opinion
joe's the master! is so cool
cool to Joe to act open and chill
I got that 1st album and waz Blown Away..Now the door was opened. What's next?.. Eddie was Iconic, Joe took it to a New Level..
I've got tickets for Glasgow in May. Already been postponed twice. Please let it be this time! 🥵🥵
Joe has his own Frankenstrat, lol. I agree, Eddie would be proud.
I bought three LP’s and two CD’s for The Elephants of Mars.
BIG BAD MOON is a great video....
15:15 for the EVH thumbnail.
You’re welcome.
Vinyl has its own sound!
The coolest guy ever
I started at 10 in 1982.....EVH hit the world much more at 1984 and I was so impressionable at age 10-11 GUITAR became my entire world.
EVH had a Sustaniac in the Peavey Wolfgang for VH3.
Joe has always seemed like such a down to earth guy, the kind you can just hang out with despite his guitar God status.
Convenience checks! Ahh the '80s
I wish I had known that you guys were interviewing him. I would love to have heard why he stopped using the Marshall 6100 amp
And please ask him to share a live version of Speed of Light.
Joe is way smarter and verbally observant than I expected. Good stuff. Humble dude, as well. Mitch needs to hear/ experience an A/B/x listening test with insanely expensive turntables and CD's or other digital formats, while listening to the same tune. The "sound stage", depth or 3d aspect, if you like, is where the difference lies to my ears. I didn't expect to hear that aspect when doing a listening test.....important- when you are NOT told, which format you are hearing at the moment.
Agree!!
Oh my god!!! My Frankenstrat has a Killswitch too!!!
Joe Satriani is an American Guitar Hero. Period
I'm 39 I drive around listening this masterpiece .
Would love it if JS came out with an acoustic album. Something a bit different.
My advice... learn all the music theory you can, then forget it and play. bam. Then when you hit the "desert", where you think you're out of ideas and everything seems boring, go listen to an instrument you HATE, and mimic it on YOUR instrument. For example, I listened to bagpipes - and bam. Got a whole new set of ideas i never thought of before.
I recently acquired a js24p(satriani's premium ibby) and i gotta say im impressed. It's definitely not just the name. It plays very well. Its definitely an oddly spec'd shredder with the fat neck, but it plays very smooth... lol anybody wanna buy it?
It may be all in my head but every time I put Fair Warning on my turn table and crank Unchained, the low end practically blows my speakers. Mitch says CD’s are better but not in my experience.
Me thinks there's a reson record albums are making a comeback.
I own 4 copies of SWTA, one original cd pressing from the 80s, another remaster on CD, another cd from a box set but the coolest is my vinyl picture disc of Surfing with the alien
👽👽👽 👽👽👽 👽👽👽 👽👽👽
I still have a promotional copy of Not Of This Earth. I'd take the Analog sound over Digital any day. Warm vs Sterile.
When I was a boy, I remember Greg Kihn. He peaked with Jeopardy. As for the video to that, the church is St. Peter and Paul's Church. The Birds, other movies, music videos filmed it!
Blocks away on Columbus Avenue, Survivor filmed Eye of the Tiger, 40 years ago! 🎂
I walked this area, the district called North Beach, many times! 😃
I had a chance to take lessons from Joe. I went to Berkeley many times.
The problem was that my parents insisted that I stick with piano lessons up to a certain point.
🎹 Thus, I never went. 😥
But I did take guitar lessons in later years! 😎
This guy is 65 years old??!
Moral of the video: Rock music rules!
GUITARS ARE AWESOME!!
wish Joe would sing again on some tracks or get a singer in though just to mix it up and do something really different
''Sing again''? No thanks. Joe isn't a good singer, he would be say that too.
Don't kid yourself bro, vinyl really sounds the best. Maybe it's the noise, but modern vinyl sounds fantastic.
Joe Satriani..Velcome to Norway at Rockefeller 9 april 2022
Its cansled..1 april 2023 he will come with his band
Joe signed my USA Wolfgang :)
Inspired by Footfall (Elephants from Mars), by Niven and Pournelle?
4:00 - JS never has had the ear bleeding tone to me. On the other hand, Vai gets into that territory.
same here...
Joe looks super young here. Aging in reverse
:46 uh... elephantS? cmon man, it's right there on paper in front of you!!! It's funny when interviewers mispronounce the person's name, too. Saw one interview going "Hi, Ace FREELY, I'm a huge fan from way back." cmon, an interviewer HAS to get the person's name right at least! Good job getting his last name right! Interesting interview, btw.
@13:26 😂 In a pinch, Solo cup be where it’s at. (At least for now…) @33:30 🤔💭😃Beavis & Butthead’s “Washing the Dog” was entertaining…for a minute. (With the assistance of JP’s stripped version of Breaking the Law, of course.) 😁
