  • There are so many different ways to setup a throttle lock on EdgeTX, the only real limit is your imagination. In this video, I'll show you a relatively simple but highly effective and SAFE throttle lock for your Radiomaster Boxer running EdgeTX. Of course this logic will also work on color radios like the TX16s as well. Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video.

      @RC Video Reviews since setting a throttle cut up (which I've done loads) and accidentally hitting the +/- and not realising, model on the bench went full throttle when I flicked the switch. luckily no damage to the model and I was behind it at the time. "emergency" throttle off is basically what a throttle cut does. Just lookup any throttle cut video I have on the channel (there are several). Logically speaking: Use a switch to override throttle channel to -100.

    Outstanding again, thanks.
    I recently got a Boxer 4 in 1 for my son and I to use with UMX BNF products.
    Although not a complete noob to RC, I kept things simple with my DJI controller with air units and vistas in my drones.
    There is a lot to figure out with binding, as some controls are reversed etc, but there are some older video’s covering this with a TX16.
    Just a suggestion, as I think the Boxer will become very popular, maybe a full tutorial on your setup with something like A Turbo Timber Evolution basic ( as this is one of the models I have!) would be beneficial.
    Thanks again.

    Hey this was pretty cool and this makes good sense as well! While we're talking about throttle, I think all that could be needed or desired would be a reverse thrust option for landing. Some planes are heavier than others, as well its cool to stop any plane a lot faster with a reverse thrust feature. I really appreciate your content and have learned A TON from you. Yet another way to do a throttle lock. Interesting that you choose to enable lock only when the throttle is down. I use a different scheme that will only unlock throttle when enable is selected and the stick is down, but throttle off lock will enable with the switch regardless of the throttle position. I see points for both ways, I'm just accustomed to throttle off lock NOW! No chance of failing to lock because the stick wasn't all the way down. Then again, there is the chance of accidentally killing the throttle mid flight. Easy enough to re-enable if you don't panic and forget how.
    I use my throttle lock on my boats too, on a three position switch: lock, forward enable, reverse enable. This way the throttle stick works full range forward and reverse and forward/reverse switching only happens when the stick is at full stop so you can't slam that poor drive system from forward to reverse at high power.

    Thanks for the info.👍 As presented here: i view this just as ANOTHER way to setup arming on your RC, its not the only way. In nearly 45+ years of flying I have never accidently hit the disarm switch while flying (if you have maybe you need to consider if the switch is in the wrong place) or maybe that 1 time was a freak occurence. But lets think this through logically, on a plane, who cares if the motor shuts down (unless you are really close to the ground), just re-arm raise the throttle and move on, ever heard of gliding or dead stick landing??? On a quad its a little different...if the disarm switch is triggered it takes a second or 2 to get the flight controller to allow arming while you are watching your favorite flyer plunge toward the ground at break neck speed. Putting the switch where it is unlikely to be hit during flight would be the most prudent thing to do. But I guess that won't happen because the majority of RC flyers are old farts (me included) that are too old, stubborn, not tech savvy enough to be willing to make a change. So for me i want my disarm switch to disarm NOW, not after i also remember to lower the throttle. Another post mentioned to have a voice prompt 'Disarmed' or "Motors off" (which i have) to warn us when we do the unthinkable. 😁 Happy flying

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад +1

      Would be simple enough to remove the and condition from disarm logical switch if you want disarm to occur regardless of the stick position. That's the beauty of this EdgeTX--unrivaled flexibility to make it work the way you need it to work.

    Thanks for the video! I just went through the setup on my new Boxer radio, and it seems to be working as shown in your video. However when I flip the arm switch with the throttle up, the motors on my quad are still arming even thought the radio shows it's not armed. Am I just missing something simple? • @pfeerick
    @pfeerick Год назад

    I use a slightly more complicated LS, but this is certainly a nice understandable one I'd like to see more people using. I prefer that if the arm/throttle enable is set, it can only be actioned on if the throttle was in the down position at the time of pressing the arm/throttle enable position, not for it to be able to arm just by pulling the switch down. i.e. if the throttle was not down at the time of pressing the switch, you have to pull it down, and then unset and set the switch again before arming occurs. And, if the disarm state is pending, with the throttle still up, I have it so the transmitter beeps to warn/remind me of that, so I know the throttle will be cut if the stick goes below -98. It's somewhat loosely based on the logic from Mr D's Open TX Ultimate Arm Switch, and I think ends up at 6 LS for the arm/disarm logic, and a 7th LS for the disarm pending check. Then there is just an extra Play Sound SF.

      And that's the overall beauty of EdgeTX. These videos are meant to show techniques that can be assembled or used in ways that meet the needs of the individual. You know what I say: "Your money, your hobby". You have to make it right for you.

    Hey Mate, gerat video! It looks like you are flying only, but maybe you can help us MT12 users. We try to figure out a cruise control, that works like on traxxas.
    The Idea is to have a switch locking the current speed... speeding up should be still possible by using the trigger and only breaking turns it off. And a poti should overwrite ch1 (or ch2) while its beeing locked so you can change the speed stepless🤔
    Second idea I have is, that the Poti is set to center (0) and as soon it turns greater than 0 (so x >0) it should overwrite Ch1 (or Ch2), so the poti AND the pullingtrigger can take control about CH1 (or CH2) but the Poti only than, if the value is greater 0...

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад +1

      There's **ALWAYS** **ALWAYS** a "but what if" when it comes to throttle locks. If something doesn't suit you, don't use it. In this case, it would take two mistakes in a row by the pilot to cause the situation you described. I would argue if the pilot is that careless with the controls on the radio, they shouldn't be flying.
      It's literally impossible to write throttle lock logic to please 100% of the people who watch these videos.

    • @BooDevil65
      @BooDevil65 Год назад

      @@RCVideoReviews Of course - I write software for a living, and everything is a compromise. One could just as easily argue that someone who doesn't check their throttle every time shouldn't be flying either.
      My question was more from a "which situation do you think more likely with planes" standpoint - I'm a quad pilot just getting into planes, and i have never armed with the throttle above zero in my 8ish years of flying quads.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад +2

      The basic throttle lock is a simple override. It's a one line config. Unfortunately, "bumping" the switch can cause an unintentional launch.
      I encourage people to consider the logic and adapt to suit. For me, I think it's a very very good idea to ensure the throttle stick is at its lowest position before arming. I've personally never made the mistake of disarming a model while flying it, but this method offers a 2nd chance in the event someone does.

    • @marksherman630
      @marksherman630 Год назад +2

      @@BooDevil65 I'm in about the same place as you - 7 years of building and flying quads, and just moving into planes. A quad using Betaflight on the FC cannot arm with the Thr above the min value. This is programmed into the BF firmware.There are other reasons for not being able to arm (like being connected to the BF configurator - remember you have to disable the FC on the motors tab to be able to test motor response). But the main error code we all get is for not having Thr all the way down. You don't have to set anything up on your quad for that. You do have to assign the arm mode to a channel and an input (usually a switch).
      On planes arming is not automatically prevented if the Thr is high, so they need to specify under what conditions the Thr channel is on and when it is not (Thr cut) via the Logic and Special Functions tabs in the model.
      I'm with jp7361 below when he says he prefers the Thr disarm to work no matter where the Thr is. It's probably because we drone flyers tend to fly lower and around obstacles, so a lot of our crashes happen with little to no warning, and you want to get the props stopped immediately before they cause a lot of damage tearing your quad apart on the ground.

What i REALLY like about these vids though is how it can open your eyes tot he "simple" things you can use to build complex things. As a newbie I am sure there's lots of things I could do when I find a need, and I have the tools to start that learning and development...

    • @RCVideoReviews

      You can move the throttle from 0 to 100 with the arm switch in the armed position. It only cuts if you disarm, then lower the throttle to zero. But you've caught the spirit of the video which is to show logic in use to give you ideas on creating your own solutions.

      @@RCVideoReviews yeah i knew what it was possible to do - I just wanted to point out the "trap" that you could get into but hey, you disarmed it deliberately, a quick switch flip to get your throttle back is easy if you needed to.
