    This is damn brilliant.
    As someone who films a ton of music videos, it’s actually a truly elegant solution.
    I’ve never thought to do it, VERY creative.
    It solves a ton of problems.
    1. Those gimbal support rigs are insane. Annoying. And expensive.
    So that leaves the big ring, attached to an ez rig, or the other one with the two ropes.
    2. Those rigs make every shot too low. Especially if you have a Cinematographer who’s on the shorter side.
    3. This is super convenient for size as well.

      yep, i have virtually everything i need to build a rig v similar to this iteration, just need an extra rosetta clamp and handle for a third grip, a user named OD Hunte showed how he did it today, and as a tennis player (haven't played in almost 2y but still) I should've thought to get an extra cheap handle or 2 (or 3) and wrap em in that comfy tape...
      and i'd been looking at the difft Easyrigs, but this is gonna cost less than $100 to finish and will be so incredibly versatile.

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ListenHereOldMan truthfully, the ergonomics of this rig would probably work better with an ez rig ANYway..
      Just because of the top handle it self.
      Really brilliant solution.

    They used the Tilta power supply base to eliminate the DJI handle battery and shorten the whole rig significantly and make it way more balanced on the shoulder , bolting the power base straight to the rigid V lock mounting plate, also adding the Tilta dvanced Rear Operating Control Handle for suitcase mode

    THIS LOOKS AWESOME! I recently bought the fx30 to get my feet wet for the fx3 (or whatever the next one is going to be) and I bought the Ronin RS3 Pro. I used the fx30 out yesterday for the first time and I hated the stabilization so much that it had me considering the Lumix but the that has moire issues and is a whole new ecosystem since I'm already deep in sony. Thanks so much for this!

I have a feeling that The Creator is now going to be the subject of many courses and case studies in film schools all around the world going forward for at least the next four or five years. It's changed a lot of people perception already about what is possible (and at what cost) when shooting a major film production.

      from my perspective, every few years a camera is created to give average filmmakers inspiration. I remember in 2012 an block buster movie came out called ACT Of VALOR which was made on a canon 5d m2 and in 2015 the film mad max road fury, on a certain scene the use a black mage cinema 2.5k with an tokina 11-16 they used also a few original black magic pocket that was only 1080 pm at the time on a marvel Avengers: Age of Ultron and now we have the Sony e30 which did another ground breaking statement again in 2023 with the movie The Creator its a great time to be a filmmaker. this all proves you dont need to spend thousands from your retirement to buy a camera to produced quality work

    Great video man. This might be a huge solution to a problem I tend to have - I do a lot of gimbal work but also need to move quickly to handheld at live events and just locking off the axis and popping it on your shoulder does all of that in a second.
    I’d love to just know you get a monitor and wire up all the v mount batteries etc.

    Yooo - so I stumbled upon this recently - I had posted on someone elses vid as well as since i set it up without knowing someone else had or before info about this movie came out... it may be the same reason... I setup the gimbal in sport or to the stiffness right before the motors start shaking from being too stiff. The effect is that it is pretty much identical to a regular shoulder rig footage with a heavy camera. So in effect, the only function the gimbal is doing it removing micro jitters. Other than that - the gimbal head almost is completely locked off. If you look at their BTS - you can see in many instances the gimbal head almost fully tracks the camera operators physical movement.

    The most important is that they used Kowa anamorphic lens set, it is as important as the camera body. People talk about the FX3 but its actually the lens that make such a result, with the specific bkoeh and the highlight roll off added to polarize filter to cut off the skin hight light and give this look. But yes its FX3 more budget for the DOP and better hotels for the crew.

    @rickymcc8624 Год назад

    Thanks for presenting some interesting ideas. I need to try experimenting myself. Trouble with shoulder mounteing an FX3 is getting a good balance (needs camera well back) makes monitoring tricky
    Yet, I always felt that shoulder mounting gave one a better chance of holding longer shots, if wanting some movement vs a more static tripod or monopod option. Gimbals can be good but difficult to manage for a sustained period without using some kind of chest mount (which is starting to look like overkill for many situations).
    Def need to try. Sort of makes sense to use a gimbal too, but I think far forward mounting (better gimbal use and monitoring) fights the ethos of shoulder rigging.

    • @JonathanPalfrey
      @JonathanPalfrey  Год назад

      You could turn it off and lock off the axis, you’d effectively have a solid camera body for tripod or even handheld, then unlock and turn the rs2 back on for gimbal. Saves switching I guess which is good, only negative would be swapping lenses

This video should rather be called 'My attempt at recreating the 'The Creator' Sony FX3 Gimbal Rig with the parts I had laying around'. You don't use the same parts or configuration. Everyone pretending to build "the" rig used during this filming is either wrong or lying.
    According to one of the co-Director of photography, they used TEN different rigs and set-ups for the whole production. And one of them was camera + 7" monitor, when other ones were way larger.
    So... everyone can make their own opinions about the sincerity of such titles and their writers.
    Next time, just take the right information from the right place : a crew member himself. Image creation is a reputation-driven world, you don't want to ruin your own in one single go with one single title.
    Unless you actually want to ! 🤔
