I’ve heard that flashlight mode is less stable bc the RS motors are designed to best perform in a regular upright position. Do either of you find this to be the case?
Dude, I’ve been trying so hard to figure out what strap this is…. Please share buddy! I love this set up so much. I also love how you use the cheese plate rail cube. It has to add so much support to the gimbal. Sooooo slick!
This is my dream set up! One day this is so amazing brother thank you for your content and showing your passion. I can tell this is truly your passion and enjoy all of that gear to help you provide the best content for your clients. New filmmaker here so this is truly inspiring
OK. Almost there with creating a version of this... but how are you supporting the plate where the Gimbal attaches to the cheese plate. I have the small rig adapter, but it feels like it needs more support so it does not stress the gimbal at this connection point.
Thanks for this video about your Octopus gimbal rig. I built a similar one and everything seems to be set up correctly, but I am having trouble getting the balance calibration once the gimbal is on the Octopus rig. When my RS 2 is mounted on the Octopus rig, entering the calibration mode gives me an error that the RS 2 is not horizontal and can't be balanced. If I go back to a conventional Ronin set up and balance and calibrate the gimbal, it is way out of balance when I mounted it back on the Octopus rig. Any suggestions?
Nice modular DIY DJI style rig. Awesome channel! Love camera legos ;) Experimenting right now. Building up a virtual production sholder rig with a stereoscopic camera and trying to get the latency down so I can have a full field of view light field monitor but running into latency issues. It's basically VR but without the headset. Fun to just try to imagibe and then play with 2030 rigs now even if its too early for it to be used commercially yet.
Its a Canon R5c with a dual 180 fov 3D lens and trying to get it to work with essentially no latency with a Leia Luma Pad 2 which is a no glasses 3D light field display. The end result is the camera operator feels like they are visiting the virtual sets and the gear more or less disappears from view rather than just "getting the shot" on a small monitor. @@camerariggingmods9667
I suppose as a shoulder rig this setup will automatically keep your horizon level, but other than that I don’t get the point. The value of a shoulder rig is the connection between the body and the camera so that you can track your subject easily, even when things start moving quickly. So you add a gimbal and now the camera lags behind your pan. Why is that helpful? And if the gimbal provided true z-axis stability (where the sensor stays parallel to the image plain rather than swinging the sensor through an arc), that would be helpful-but a standard gimbal can’t do that. And if I want a lower slung setup, I would much rather have a steady-cam rig so I get some z-axis stability and the camera is isolated from jostling by my hip as I walk. Is this rig really worth the effort? I don’t see it.
No the value of a shoulder rig is a more comfortable hold for the camera nobody wants to hold a gimbal up high the whole ahoot the creator rig is actually pretty genius for those who dont want to use total arm strength to support the gimbal there is no right or wrong way when it comes to rigging the whole point is to rig something to give ultimate functionality for giving situations
@@JabDFilms If it were me operating the camera for this film, then I would probably use a small trinity-style rig most of the time. Then you can be high or low from moment to moment, most of the weight is carried on the hips, and your arms are down close to your torso most of the time. Instead they have these clumsy shoulder/gimbal hybrid rigs with these ridiculously long top handles, so if they want to shoot low, they have an overly wide rig that you have to hold in very awkward ways (though on the back and shoulders), and then when you put it on your shoulder the gimbal is almost useless-assuming you know how to keep a shoulder rig level while shooting. It seems like the wrong kind of complexity.
@@waveland how many low angles do you see in feature films thats a novelty shot mainly used in music videos and super artsy films the majority of hollywood feature films are shot eye level so for the Creator production it makes sense. You should watch the Oren Soffer interview with Matti Haapoji they explain why that setup and camera was critical
Great work but it's a very high viewing angle and get you lower horizon line specially when you are a tall person . AKA shooting from above . the actual gareth edwards rig used, the gimbal base was mounted close to shoulder giving a more realistic third person POV.
I really appreciate your videos dude! Your configuration of the gimbal shoulder rigs are easily, my favorite. I’ve watched your shorts and this video many times now and I’m curious about something… I talked to tilta some weeks ago, asking about using two wireless controllers with the RS three pro and they said it was not possible but in your videos such as this one you are using to wireless advanced controllers for the ring grip, it seems, and then one of your shorts you’re also using the wireless Thumb controller also made by Tilta I believe along side with one of the advanced wireless controllers… How are you able to do this? If you could, please explain I would greatly appreciate it. I would love to use two or three wireless controllers at once. Right now I am just using one of the advanced wireless controllers for the ring along with the two motor system smallrig magic fiz so I can control three motors, but I much prefer the Tilta advanced wireless controller over the smallrig and as I understand it, you can only connect to wireless module to the right side, NATO pins so I’m just wondering how you got two modules on there or are you just using one module? I originally wanted to use the rear operating handle that covers both nato pins on the rs3 pro and then I was going to connect the wireless module for the advance wireless handle by Tilta to the right side extra nato pin on the rear operating handle, but tilter also said this was not possible to use the rear operating handle and the advanced wireless handle simultaneously. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated man! Thank you again for your videos. I will continue to watch them all
you are a true inspiration to me. i will post videos i made following your advice. insanely useful content from a true professional. not some youtube child.
I have been going crazy trying to find those cheeseplates! I can only find the ones with the side threads on one side. Who makes those cheeseplates? Please, please, please...
Thanks my brother. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to ever create this rig there's other people done it in a different way so I'm just reinventing the wheel lol
I remember seeing this done a few years ago but the concern was that the gimbal motors weren’t designed for that kind of orientation. Do you think this could burn them out in the long run?
Appreciate the reply. What do you mean by loosening the motors up? Does it feel like they still have enough torque to stabilise the shots? @@camerariggingmods9667
I had to add extra screws to the extension arms and it allowed me to screw in tilta Rosetta/NATO clamp for RS2, since remote controls have NATO rails it just slid right in.
So the monitor I have is from Feelworld or Andycine it's same thing, it has a pass-through power for transmitter. But someone can't remember who recently manufactured NPF adapter that goes on your monitor and gives you ability to power your monitor and attach NPF powerd transmitter on it . If I remember who makes that I'll send you the link
How does the footage look compared to the usual RS3 configuration? I imagine you still get the same up and down motion from your footsteps if you’re filming at 50mm and longer?
Great rig. Turning the gimbal into a shoulder rig- BRILLIANT! Great work out.
Not my idea 😔 but thank you
DUDE! I literally thought about this for days, coming back to it today and behold, the youtube algorithm put this on the top of my suggestions.
Dope video. I think that is a cool way to help with tracking a submit from shoulder. That’s super dope.
Hey bro this is a dope set up. Could you also create a compact version of the creator set up .
Yes I am ordering long handles and then I'll make one

Super flexible. Great rig dude!

i think you should make an assembly video for it and parts, but awesome
