I haven't really spent time in Thailand, but spent many visits to the Philippines when I was younger. I'm working on setting up my Philippines retirement now, but plan on visiting various places around SE Asia, as well as pop up to Japan and Korea to visit friends up in those areas. I look forward to taking some temple tours though, so Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam are sure places to visit.

Hi, I just discovered your channel.... Be a black man living in Germany for over 30 years now, I'm ready for a change... I spent time in Thailand 3 month in 1999 into 2000, I was in Pattaya cause I made the Mistake of jumping in a cab at Bangkok Airport and said take me to the Beach... 3 hours later I saw the most beautiful BLUE SEA that I've ever seen in my life... The Cab driver set me up in a hotel that said it had a swimming pool on a big sign in the lobby, (had been close over 3 years) as I was to find out the next morning when I got up early , up in bathing short grabbed my towel and headed for the Roof... In the Elevator I ran into the cleaning staff who ask me where I thought I was going... There where other problems with my hotel room (even though it was a 4 star Hotel) mold on the Door of the Bathroom and not a speck here or there, but 3/4 of the door with that Black mold that is Health hazard (they acted like that is normal)so little to say I called the cab driver and he got me an Apartment (which I used about a week)... Because I'm Ex- Army, I walk a lot was trying to find a beach ran into an old woman and handed her a 200 Baht gift for the fruit she was selling and she took me to her village where I had the most fun I ever had and there was only one person who could speak English... But with hand and feet I can get everything done.. The only thing is I want to settle in the Philippines, the only problem for me would be the Jealousy problem that the women have there... Never been there and channels like yours are helping me make the Decision if I want to live there or not.. I'm not Vaxxed so I will have time to think before my next vacation...But I do know my next vacation will be in the Philippines ...

In the province not many speak English but there are enough here that do in the philippines. In the bigger cities in Philippines almost everyone speaks English. Thailand is modern and great food. There you can get the party atmosphere in Patong but also get away to other parts of the island. And big city Bangkok is only couple hr flight away. I'm intending to return and from the friendly Filipinos I've met and some of the expats I've talked to that have experienced both, a lot choose Thailand. I really liked thailand and thought seriously about moving there. Their infrastructure is by far better (electric, internet, roads, buildings). The food is better and has more options, and seems to be a bit more healthier. If you want to have real province life you need to get away from BKK or the other southern big cities. If you live in esan it will be very similar to the Phil province life. Depends on if you want to be close to BKK or not. Going up north or northeast and it gets pretty quiet. Thailand seems cleaner as well. With all that being said, I still will be moving to the phil only because I met a woman from the phil.

I am the son of a diplomat, so I had to stay there for the while - and it became my 2nd home. The Thai people are VERY nice and VERY hospitable. (I had even got pretty emotional on the day I had to leave.) The food is GREAT. Aloy maaaaak!!! (So delicious!!!) No comparison there. The Buddhist temples are beautiful. But I had to return to the Philippines since, of course, it's home. And I have no regrets at all. Yes, the infrastructure is less developed here. But it's getting better. In fact, I just LOVE it here. I do have continuing contact with a friend back in Bangkok. I went back there twice. I miss the food (how do I!) and friends, yes. But the Republic of the Philippines is home. Mabuhay! 🇵🇭

Lived in Thailand, back in the Philippines. IDK but for some reason, I did notice first the quality of expats between two countries. What I can say is from experience is that TH attracts the sleaziest, the depressive and unstable, most delusional types of people. There are few exceptions, of course. It's just not worth attracting those expats, especially men.
Thailand and the Philippines, although they are both Southeast Asian countries, nothing compares to the Filipino warmth. In Thailand, they are hospitable to you as a tourist that you are. They will smile and greet you. In the Philippines, hospitality is treating you like a family, like their own. They will go an extra mile to help you.
As for food, Thai foods are rich in flavor and in a sense that it can overhelm the taste buds but underwhelming at the same time because it's hard to describe the actual taste, like you'd say it's flavorful but tastes like water with a little sugar on it or like after all these flavors, it's just spicy.
Thailand is far more progressive than the Philippines when it comes to infrastructure and lifestyle but I feel like the their way of living is far behind, social graces, education system. I also find a country to be progressive if the people reflect that but there is such an imbalance in Thailand, with how they treat their poor people and also the regulations they make are very impulsive and lacking good judgment, as long as they make money. Being short-sighted works for them.
At worst when you get to live with them, you see that most of them are rich but they act like poor people. Some people in authority will even victimize their own people.
In general, they like to appear to have a sense of spirituality but the culture reflects superficiality and love for carnal, materialistic pursuits. In dating, the exchange or connection between a foreigner and a local can feel limited, uncreative and more like an overused template like the typical overhyping of the country and its women, food and culture just to be on the trend but in reality, it's very transactional and predictable. You have to be like them to be treated like one of them.
You can barely hear them use the word 'love', in relationships. Love to them is first and foremost, security and stability. They mention money more than anything else. Also, away from the nightlife, I find Thailand to be very dull. Without exoticizing it, it's just another comfort zone to those who are miserable or to those who were rejected in their own countries. Some people are just in denial. Again, this does not apply to everyone.

I ve been saying it for ages. I spent 5 years in the PH and 3.5 years in Thailand.
The PH is better if you are a white or a black guy. TH is better if you are an E Asian guy
Thailand is a lot more racist and xenophobic than the Philippines. If you are a white or a black guy, Thailand is OK for vacation, but staying there long term starts affecting you. There are all kinds of microagressions against you and they wear you down.
Thais as a rule, do not feel comfortable around non Oriental people. Some do, and some are nice, but most do not. So, with exceptions , most of which are ethnic Khmers or Lao, it is not easy to make friends with them. They were never colonized and are just not used to whites, blacks etc. Some of them just try and avoid you outright. Same as the Japanese or Koreans do.
Some really hate out for racial reasons but they smile so you are not aware of it. But then you start to realize it.
Filipinos otoh, are used to seeing all kinds of races, and almost every extended family has someone married to a non Filipino. Making friends with different races is normal to a Filipino.
But many Thais find people of other races weird, and try to ignore them. It makes you feel alienated.
Also, Filipinos speak English and are Christians. That creates a lot of things in common. Thais are Buddhists and most do not speak English.
And when you learn the language, you start hearing the mocking comments and understanding them. Many Thais constantly mock and make fun of whites, blacks and Indians. Filipinos also occasionally do it, but it is not as frequent. They see you as a human being more.
Many high or middle class Thais do not like white people. They see them as a threat to their hegemony over the country and the large underclass. Even their health minister said that white people spread the virus.
High class Filipinos are much less so. Yes, sometimes they also sit around talking s..t about Amerikanos, but way less than the Thais.
It is a shame for a Thai woman to be seen with a white, black or other non Oriental. Especially if she has education. It can also happen in the PH, but it is way less frowned upon.
So, yes, Filipinos can also be racist, but degreewise and frequency wise, it is maybe like 10% of Thailand.
Then, the immigration and visas are much stricter in Thailand. If you leave your house for even one day and go to another province, you need to show up with your landlord at the immigration the following day and report. And you need to report to immigration every three months. Long terms visas are very hard and very expensive. And you need to carry your passport on you at all times.
The Thais are way more class conscious, they look at the clothes you wear, the place you live in, and if you are not upper middle class or rich, they often look down on you. In the PH, if you are not rich, it is OK. If you dress modestly, it is OK.
In Thailand, if you want to marry a girl, you need to pay a bride price to the family. It can be tens of thousands of dollars even.
Three things are better in Thailand
    The infrastructure
    The quality of services
    The food.
The rest is better in the PH.

Compare geographically. Sweden and Norway would be the winner with 267,570 islands and 239,057 islands, respectively. You'll need 9 rebirths to be able to visit them all. In South East Asia. Indonesia would be the winner with 17, 508 islands. It would take about 50 years to visit each island in one day. China has 6,961 islands. Vietnam has 1,600 islands. Thailand has only 1,430 islands, which you can all visit in just a span of 5 years. On tourist's perspective, visiting the same places all the time makes it boring after some time. Philippines has 7, 640 islands. You'll have to spend a stretch of 25 years to visit each of the 7,000 + islands staying for just one day in each. Include the 96,828 hectares Tubbataha Reef Natural Park, which has the greatest number of rarest marine life and biodiversity of species in the world. That makes it less boring than visiting a country with a thousand plus islands only.
