    I have been to many countries in the world and always what I remember is my real encounter with its people. The French ice cream lady at Galleries Lafayette in Paris who wouldn't attempt to understand anything said in English or Spanish.; the Italian in Venice who shouted how he hated all the tourists; the Budapest lady who bumped me on the sidewalk because we were blocking her path. The Japanese are polite and respectful but distant. The Chinese, well let's not even talk about their worldwide reputation. Wherever you are in the world, the Filipinos rich or poor will always welcome you like one of their own and treat you with respect and true kindness. Filipinos are very watchful and your comfort is important to them. I am sure they have offered you all the food and drinks in their house . They find something to laugh at even in the most horrible situation and will assist you to the ends of the earth if you are in dire trouble. As an American, hands down, I truly think that no one can beat the Philippines in terms of its people.

      Leica jaye Francisco and that explain that you’re from manila. Maybe because the life in manila is a little different from province, upbringing wise is different too, money is everything in manila, you have to work hard to earn a penny, everyday is to live or die, which is quite different in province, you can live without money as long as you know to make a living in a simple way, mag tanim ka lng dyan sa bakuran mo buhay ka na. Sa province bayanihan, Pwede ka manghingi ng asin at Kanin sa kapitbahay

      The Philippines is a good place for vacation but the standard of living might not be as good as it is compared to say, Thailand. Healthcare is almost nonexistent for middle to lower class people, which can mean lower collective immunity for the community. Transportation/city travel is also a big problem and having a private vehicle will probably not solve it. Traffic in the big cities are super congested and if you want to live a life here, that would mean that these cities will have more opportunities for work and other amenities, which means that the traffic problem will be inevitable. Healthy food is relatively expensive for a locals (if you live in the larger city like me, fresh fruits are actually expensive) but they may seem cheap for a tourist. Weather is very humid and hot during summers but wet and heavy on the off season. Crime is also prevalent in larger cities and poverty will be very imminent once you start to settle. Sanitation is a huge problem and overpopulation, urban sprawl and imbalance in rural and urban living adds to this issue. However, people are chill and quite content with what they have. There are also a big number of expats that can provide support and are generally given chance to get higher job positions. We are very friendly but there are also many who exploit on people (just like any other country right?)
      I'm saying all these things, especially health care, traffic, food and accommodation to give you a more realistic view of what it is to "visit" compared to "live".
      I love my country but honestly if you are not privileged enough to be higher middle class to upper class, living can get hard. Anyways, ultimately the decision is yours and I know you've probably done your research and will not move unprepared. There are also some remnants of "White Supremacy" which means opportunities for aspiring expatriates like you will be much more often. If you prepare enough, you might not even encounter some of the problems stated above since you will probably live in the upstate part of whichever city you decide to live in. Some Filipinos are even blind to the problems of their own society so why would and expat like you focus on them right? Good luck on your journey!! :)

    Fair enough! I mean I've never been to the Philippines myself but as a Thai, I gotta be honest, we're literally butchering our own tourism by overpricing goods and urbanizing our beautiful nature. People in Thailand are generally friendly but like any other countries there are some mean people but what I realized about pinoys is that not only are they friendly, there's also a sense of community. Their families are tightly bonded towards each other and they share their friendliness to others as well. Thai people has a sense of community and friendliness out in the countryside as well but much less in the city and there might not be too much help to offer in Thailand since many Thais are just socially awkward with foreigners and have fear of not being able to speak good English. Regardless, I think your comparison is good. You're not exactly saying one country is better than another. Each country has its own charms it depends on the objective of your trip. If you want convenience, good food and experience a buddhist culture, come to Thailand. If you enjoy adventure travelling with untouched nature and diverse culture, go to the Philippines that's my opinion.

      Better to compare Philippines to Indonesia. Not far apart differences. Compared to Thailand? The Philippines is many years behind in development as seen on the ground. As a Filipino, it's not about not being proud. It's about telling fairly what we all see. But youtubers may gain more in the Philippines.

      Actually it’s a cultural thing. People of the PH has been colonized by Americans for 50 years and by the Spaniards in 300 years. You can notice also our language which is Tagalog consist of Malay and Spanish borrowed words. I believe the American colonization made Filipino so easy to learn the language.

    I’ve seen a lot of comparisons about Thailand and the Philippines but think you give the most honest (and fairest) comparison. However, I think enough already with comparing the two countries, the Philippines is unique in Asia, and is so culturally diverse, while Thailand shares similar culture with countries like Laos, Cambodia and to some extent, Vietnam. So extra points to the Philippines for uniqueness and diversity.

    • @HewbhurtGabon
      @HewbhurtGabon 5 лет назад +19

      Agree. Philippines is the not-so-asia of Asia. So if you are coming from the Western world and have been missing your home country with your months-long Asian holiday, then go to Philippines. The English thing, hollywood movies and music, American and Spanish in Asian world, go to Philippines. It's your oasis in the asian desert. hahaha!

    • @MrSuperralph23
      @MrSuperralph23 5 лет назад +10

      @RUclips Username 2019 SE Asian countries have a lot of similarities just like how it is among European countries, South American countries, USA vs Canada and all but, the Philippines is the only country very similar to South American countries. Even Latinos, Spanish and Portuguese find themselves at home when they come over to the Philippines coz we are the Latin country of Asia and that makes us unique.

    Hi Finn.. I live in the Philippines, too. I don't live the tourist lifestyle here like you, so my take on the country is a little different than yours. I am an American expat working remotely teaching English to the Chinese from here. I live about a five hour ferry ride from Cebu in Southern Leyte... not far when you consider you get to sleep on the ferries. From as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to live in the cheapest, coolest, place on the planet and it seems that I have achieved that goal by moving here. I live very comfortably here with modern conveniences for about $200 a month. So, like you said, the Philippines is indeed a very cheap place to travel. My $200 a month cost of living includes my visa extensions, internet, food, travel, eating out, rent, utilities, etc., Basically Everything! Love it here! Great video! Gio

      Ok. I guess I owe you an apology. As to why filipinos leave their country, when they state they love it, is because of corrupt politics. The people are all guilty. They elect, & keep on electing selfish politicians who leech the country of riches and made it a hell. So the people have no choice but to work abroad. A maid abroad earns more than a nurse working in their own country. Even local jobs, are hard to get, because you need influence, not competence, in order to find work. I know it doesn't mean a thing to you but atleast I hope you'll now know the reason why.

This is so true. Considering all of its beauty: The nature, the Food, the Culture and most of all the People.

    Finn, somehow it would seem unfair to make any comparison between 2 equally beautiful and blessed countries like Thailand and the Philippines. But having to critically choose which one is the better one among the very best exotic destinations, you are damn right in your objective (and also subjective, depending on your ground experiences) analysis that the Philippines is the hands-down winner. BTW your memorable underwater marine experience in the Tubbataha Reef in Palawan is indeed one of your most spectacular and coolest vlog ever worth sharing to the rest of the world who have yet to see the natural beauty and bounty of our native Philippines.

    I've been to both countries and both are amazing country/food/people !!! Bangkok is a concrete jungle for me and having a hard time going to places, while Manila is becoming one also, but easier to move around the huge metro suburbs, w/ four (4) Largest Malls in the World and most of all because everyone speaks fluent English !!! With respect to a natural beauty, PHILIPPINES tops it all with 7,641 Islands Paradise (THAILAND w/ 200+ Islands) surrounded by stunning acqua/blue water beaches (comes w/ white, brown, gray, pink and even black sand close to the volcano), mountains, hills, volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers, lakes and lots of places for hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, wakeboarding, canyoneering, rafting its like you're in the PARADISE... Some places looks like you're in Ireland, New Zealand, etc... Most bloggers/RUclipsr prefer PHILIPPINES because of natural beauty, more adventures, people's hospitality and most of all English is widely spoken and it's the most Westernize nation in Asia. BTW, I'm from VEGAS and will be retiring in the PHILIPPINES next year... SORRY THAILAND !!!

    This is the honest review Finn and I couldn't agree more. I wonder why we as Filipino could not see that the comfort, culture and food are things that needs to be improve in country.
    I live in Dubai and could see how our government is negligence in improving transport and comfort for the tourist. I see how our GDP is going and this is not acceptable how they manage that transport system. I'm glad the new president is doing something about but right now the problem we see is short term. But I do see a long term solution is being done.

It's hard for people to accept that their country isen't the best in everything. Most people that speak highly of their own country in every department have not travel much (or at all) in their life, so they have nothing to compare it with.

    Im a Filipino and I just visited Thailand recently . From what Ive observed, Thailand has a better road system , their public transports are not smoke belchers. Their highways are clean and not dusty compare to the polluted Manila. Wifi system anywhere is unbelievably fast and accesible. They implemented their public law diligently , they are much disciplined . Tuktuk price ride is a headache for me as well as their taxis,though in the Philippines tricyles are much cheaper and vans or uvs are accesible everywhere. But the populated Mega Manila doesnt offer comfort and convenience, the way of life in the cities are stressful, traffics are heavy. Busy bustling street where all the people commute back and forth honing for their time of work. Peoples life in Manila are much busier than in Bangkok.
    Thailand offers comfort and accesibility for those who want to enjoy their vacation, like me.
    But the nature which Philippines carries scattered thru thousands of Islands was hard to beat. Yes tourism is not mainly the source of Philippine economic growth but someday I would say if the right person would run the Philippines to become more progressive on transportation, communication and infrastructures. Were going to become one of the gems of SEA. No doubt.

      Manila's pollution and urban decay, are very natural consequences. That's because the Manila metropolis area is a small space catering to huge commercial activities. More than half of the population of Manila, are actually people from the provinces who just live in Manila to work or go to a better university.
      That's the reason why when it's a long public holiday, Manila becomes deserted. There's a massive exodus of people going out of Manila and back to their home provinces.
      I used to say before, that if you want to learn how to drive a car in the city, go to Makati during the Lenten Holidays. You will have the entire streets of Makati for yourself. lol

    • @mincassy6922
      @mincassy6922 5 лет назад +5

      I'm Filipino and I never want to set foot in Manila and I've lived there! Lol
      The problem why Manila is sooo congested is it's the Capital, and people from provinces thinks it's this place that can offer better living but that's a sham. Compared to other cities in Metro Manila, Manila is the crowdiest and sad to say, dirtier than compared to say, Pasig City. And traffic is caused by too many coming to Metro Manila because Philippines implement this provincial rate system where provinces are given lesser salaries. It sucks. If there's no provincial rate, I'd go back to my province tbh, which is in Mindanao.

    The love of travel brought me here. Being to Thailand twice I have been very interested in visiting the Philippines, this has sealed the deal. I have started investigating airfares from Australia and it is so cheap to take a family of 5. Cheers. Subscribed and am looking forward to being introduced to more of the world. Thank you.

    I hold off watching this specific video because I want to experience Thailand firsthand. I was in Thailand yesterday, stayed for 5 days. From that, it made me love and appreciate my own country, Philippines, more. I'm giving culture, food and comfort to Thailand, I agree with you on that. I don't wanna sound bias, but the comment section says it all, it's the people in the Philippines who would really win you over, regardless of where you come from.
    You are genuine and straightforward, Finn. Thank you.

    I’ve been to both Thailand and Philippines. Thailand (in my opinion) was a miserable experience, but the Philippines was a nice experience. One reason: the culture. Thailand culture is depressing, but Philippine culture is inviting!

    The best attractions in the Philippines is her incredible Wonder of Natures like MT.Mayon- the most perfect conical shaped volcano in the world, The amazing Chocolate Hills- that even scientist hardly believe how those hills formed, the subterranean river - the longest navigational underground river in the world included in "" NEW 7 WONDER of NATURE" etc which is not man made, you cannot see those Natural wonders of the Philippines in other countries, you can see buddas temples in many countries because it's man made, but man, the wonder of nature of the Philippines is you only see in the Philippines it's so beautiful and unique, wonderful country.
