    The sheer amount of crap this video has unfairly taken for being what it is is a testament to how disgusting the larger collective of RUclips commenters are. Of all the things they could be getting angry about, it has to be some guy performing a hyperactive, non-monotone demonstration of getting an obsolete operating system installed on solid state media. To this day, I still can't wrap my mind around why something like that would be even remotely provocative.
    Do they really want SnoozeTown above all else that badly? 'Cuz that's all I see in the majority of tech videos, and that's why this channel was so great; it was different, it was engaging, and it was hilarious. I suppose this is why most channels are clones of each other now, they're just afraid of deviating from the line under the threat of receiving irrational backlash like over here. This is part of the reason why I was forced to destroy a video of mine that was at *2.8 million views.* The headaches of having to read "aaa why you crazy" "dude stop shakine a camera" and "ugh B nice 2 winxpee !!!" day and night were too much. Now my channel is dead and the retro tech scene seems to be a shadow of its former self, nothing but vicious eBay warfare.
    Man, I would love to see another insane skit of some kind among the ranks of Quantum Bigfoot, but... in general, I've sort of given up on the idea of intently watching RUclips videos beyond a narrow selection. It's just not the same without this kind of liveliness. Maybe someday viewers will start to appreciate the approaches we've taken when the same formulaic stuff creators are doing gets everyone burned out. All the best from the Razornet-

      ATNR. Looks like you didn't understand me. I asked if this PC is "advanced" enough to have that option. I doubt that all PC's since their invention had the thermal shutdown, but I don't know when it became common for all PC's, so I don't know if you can rely on it.

      he was able to install win98 on ssd drive. fine. but the speed is reduced to te speed of IDE bus. So no speed advantages of ssd are possible here.

    • @Charkel
      @Charkel 8 лет назад +5

      +Oto Lohnicky I think you accidentally replied to my post. Or was the critic meant for me?
      Yes he is using the IDE connection but that doesn't necessarily mean that the speed would be the same as a IDE connected HDD on every task. The SSD can find different information faster and generally work faster. I'm not really good on these things but I don't think you are either. (No offence)

    • @lohnicky
      @lohnicky 8 лет назад +2

      Charlie Krogars Sorry, my post was not any critic on you.

    • @fitsadee4018
      @fitsadee4018 8 лет назад +1

      Charlie is completely right. The SSD, having no moving parts, would find files much, much quicker, thus the speed increase would, or at least should, be very noticable, (moreover, I expect reading speed would be most noticeable) but transfer speeds I imagine wouldn't be much different, if at all. (except with many smaller files, since there is no needle moving around on a disc trying to find the files) I'm preeeetty sure I'm on the nail with this, but stranger things have happened than me being wrong. Haha

    • @chatboxguy3363

      Iron Sight, installing Windows 9X was hardly ever painful really. But, its adaptation to a SD drive was probably the painful part. Windows 9X was designed to seek and check for a C:\ drive meaning the primary drive for installation. to trick it to identify the microchip drive you either have to A:) change the microchip to a start-up inside your motherboard settings if it can allow it too. B) force the installation to recognize the drive and a PATCHED setup can do it. See, also Windows 98 was designed with an initialization process to activate with the motherboard when recognized by the motherboard BIOS either or to be activated by the MICROSOFT MS-DOS operating system for which this case is used if the BIOS doesn't recognize the CD-ROM drive or the CD. If it doesn't, you need MS-DOS operating system and the MS-DOS CD DRIVER. Its a suit, one fits all DRIVES. The simpilist way is to change your boot drive from the BIOS because its the handler for which the installation software was designed to work with. And yes, I have installed Windows 98 before and understand the errors. Often there aren't many, but Windows 98 was made before a SD Drive. Oh, and your drive has to be in FAT32 because that is the proper format of Windows 98. You can use FAT16, but FAT32 beats FAT16 by a spread. The read is faster. Windows 98 was a nexus of upgrading Hard Drive Speed as Windows 7 is the upgrade to Windows Core speed compilation. Windows 2000 was the NTFS change over. I think Windows 98 will install with a NTFS, but the speed has errors because modifications were made for it to work at higher speed standards for the upgrades. They kept previous formatting systems because some drives were incompatible for the newer format. They worked well for those previous formats. Though slower. Understanding the original design flow system of a program is key into changing its nature. Also, there is another trick you can try using DOS. In those days we had options open to us. We had ways to use DOS to force what we wished to happen. See, the other thing the installation system was designed to also work with DOS as an handler. In the days of DOS, there was a way of writing scripts which we called batch files to force animity. and the older computers set-up with DOS thereby in with an identified HD had a batch file called AUTOEXEC.BAT. Usually, we engaged them from FLOPPY drives. If you could remaster a THUMB drive in place to start-up with MS-DOS with an AUTOEXEC and have the BATCH file forceably recognize the SD card as the C:\ Drive and have the .com for recognizing a CD drive all you got to do is start-up to the FLASH STICK and use is "CD D:\" and type "DIR /P" to find the installation file. You type it as you see it. it will be a .COM file you want to find. Dos was designed to find and locate a AUTOEXEC.BAT file on its own drive for assigning drive ALLOCATION as well as motherboard drive assigning so if you cannot get your SD card to be assigned, perhaps threw this method you can. The AUTOEXIC bat table is very open, once I even formatted my own memory sticks as a bit of a joke and assigned it a DRIVE and had the contents of a FLOPPY copied to it. I can assure you the positive side while having lesser in memory, any process ran faster including the dos scandisk program. DOS is the most bending programming system as ancient as it is. Windows 98 has its own AUTOEXEC for running process too as the running system of Windows 98 is half and half about. Maybe a bit more than Windows 95 by a tiny bit.

      @@inactive7191 Because technology is fun CharlieRoblox. People do this stuff for the pursuit of fun of mastering and remastering old technology software to reuse them. It took me twice as long as to type it. But, knowledge is food for thought for technology that could exist, or theory. Windows 98 was made when HD's were primary and the main primary and basic means of running Windows were on an Hard Drive. The running of it on an SSD is a intriguing subject and I was explaining the functions of the time and how they may be applied to today for the goal. Druaga 1 did it by forcing his motherboard/main board to accept the change. However, as he pointed out it always doesn't work out. I pointed out some alternatives in theory to complete the goal.

    The SSD removed the seek time to almost zero (even shorter than the time the old machine can handle,) but the IDE bus on this old machine bottlenecks it. If the machine have a PCI slot, with a PCI SATA card, because of its capability of handling at lease SATA 1.5Gb/s despite the PCI bus latency, you can get much better results.

      +陈北宗 I've a rare AMD Sempron machine with Windows 2000 installed and still using the IDE functionality for the reason that it's not fast enough to read a mechanical SATA drive, at least in my opinion...with the unofficial SP5, update rollup and ESR version of Firefox all installed on this machine, it's still unable to play videos any better than 360p with occasional choppiness here and there due to it's limitations. An SSD may or may not help things out, but god knows how this machine could continue running any modern browser fare decently.

    needs dma enabled and a proper display adapter driver and it's 4K ready

    • @TheXev
      @TheXev 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah, turning DMA on probably would have made it boot hella faster. Would have needed chipset drivers for that, and since the system is Intel, that would probably have been easy.

    • @DwaynePeterson
      @DwaynePeterson 8 лет назад +1

      Thats what I felt. Either a DMA issue or the IDE to SATA adapter might have been a bottleneck.

    • @TheXev
      @TheXev 8 лет назад

      I also noticed that the hard drive only had a 40-pin IDE cable, and not a 80-pin connector cable. That can really help with transfer speeds if the controller can support the higher speeds.

      The Dell P2-400 had a BX chip set and only supported Ultra DMA/33 through the south bridge, A 30 pin cable should work just as well as an 80 pin cable in this system...

      There will never be a Windows 11. Window 10 is a service. Always being updated for free well as long you own a computer or license for.

      Mark Chang Whoa there. So much anger. I just don't have rose colored glasses. 98 was incredibly buggy and unstable, and was much more bloated than anything but Me. Did you forget about Internet Explorer being inserted everywhere? Did you forget about channels? Did you forget how common BSODs used to be?

    Im finallly doing something very druaga1, you are the only reason i know that i can use sd cards with ide cables and all that, and know thatll work with old versions of windows. i first saw your videos in 2015, with i think it being "minecraft on the windows 98 machine" and i was only about 9 or 10 years old, but ever since i had computer access i have always loved and wanted to build a windows 9x machine, and tomorrow after a long wait, i am finally doing it, and i will be putting it on an sd card. thank you druaga1. you have always inspired me to do crazy ass shit with old tech, and to have fun with it while doing it.
