      That was the decade *I* grew up in. As a white person, I knew all the white artists, AND I knew all the black artists. Racism was a non-issue. Look at every TV show and Hollywood movie from the 80's: Seamless integration on all levels. The world is so much more racist today than it ever was back then.

      @@slappyslapstick4045 Were you alive in the 1980's? Didn't think so. As someone who lived it, I can tell you unequivocally that there was far LESS racism in America in 1980-1990 than there is today. So much less that it was a non-issue. Nobody ever talked about race. It was a non-starter.
      That isn't to say that some people weren't racist. That will always be the case (on both sides). I'm talking about the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of people.
      You couldn't even release a music video like this today. There's no comparison.
      You don't know what it's like because you weren't there. You know only of TODAY. I was actually THERE. I lived it. It was a DIFFERENT time. One that you will never know.

    • @taekwondotime
      @taekwondotime 2 года назад

      @@slappyslapstick4045 The difference between the 1980's (my gen X generation) and this guy doing the reaction video (today's gen) is that he doesn't know ANY of the white artists. THAT's the racism that exists in the world TODAY. He doesn't listen to anything other than BLACK artists. Everyone is in their own musical "camp", exactly like it was in the 1950's where each race only listens to their "own" music. Me as a KID in the 1980's knew who Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson were. I knew them all because I LISTENED TO THEM ALL. White kids listening to black artists was NORMAL in the 1980's. Same with black kids listening to white artists. I actually CRINGED every time he said he didn't know who the person was. It shows his ignorance for all the world to see.

It was above and beyond and remember hearing he could tell when he was around pretty ladies. He even sang to us at one point. I’m sure she could’ve been annoyed but never let it show. I was around 14 when this magic happened. This song was played all over the World. I remember the day of 28th of March of the 1996, like over 6.000 radio stations all over the planet, played the song simultaneously at 10:15am. I remember in schools (Italy) when they told us that the song would have been played all over the planet and it is been so... It has been the biggest moment of unification that I ever lived in my life. Something that is just utopia, a dream, at the day of today... I'm so glad that I'm coming from that era. Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie materialized a masterpiece that night in L.A. This song has been made for charity. All those superstars went for free to spend the night in a studio to record the song. Some of them arrived there straight from the Americans awards etc .. They all left just when the job was done in the morning. No financial compensation for that long amazing job that they did. A support to Africa, that's it. There is a fantastic documentary (presented by Jane Fonda) that shows that magical night. Whoever is attracted by this song and wants to know more, I suggest to watch that documentary.

This was the musical dream team of mostly 80's, 70's and some 60's and 50's musicians and there were plenty more from that era that did not perform but that's because these were selected from mostly pop, R&B, and a few rock and country singers. This was a very rich diverse talent assembly than has ever been done and has not been done since and for a great cause.

    Truly a legendary performance by some of the best musical artists of the 80's and earlier. I challenge anyone to listen to this and not get goosebumps or shed a tear at the beauty of the music, the voices, and the verses. The message holds true today. "We are the world, we are the children. . . " We ARE the change we wish to see in the world, even if it's a simple gesture of kindness. I hope that future generations will continue to listen to this and heed the call to help one another. If you have not heard the original Band Aid, Do They Know It's Christmas Time, 1984, give it a listen. An incredible lineup of British, Irish, and Scottish musicians. Bob Geldof who organized the original Band Aid makes an appearance in this video as well as a backup singer, though is generally uncredited as are so many others who comprised the chorus.

  • @bryansproles2879
    @bryansproles2879 3 года назад +7

    The idea was conceived and executed pretty quickly when all these people were in town for a music awards show. They put up a sign outside the studio to the effect of "Leave your ego at the door." Prince was invited to do a solo line, but he refused. He did, however, contribute a song to the disc.
    The whole ROOM is full of legends from the 60's on through the 80's. The "WHO IS THAT??" guy is Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. He alone has a ton of hits, and has a VERY distinctive voice. Diana Ross was with a little Motown band you might have heard of called "The Supremes". Dionne Warwick's cousin was Whitney Houston.
    Most of the backing (chorus) people you may have heard of too - Bette Midler ("Wind Beneath My Wings"), Harry Belafonte ("Day-O", "Jump in the Line"), actor Dan Aykroyd (of "Ghostbusters" and "Driving Miss Daisy" fame), most of MJ's brothers and sisters, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, John Oates (part of Hall & Oates - Daryl Hall was one of the soloists), and Sheila E (hit it big in the 80's in her own right.)
    Also, the conductor was the producer Quincy Jones, who also produced this song, as well as MJ's "Off the Wall", "Thriller" and "Bad" albums.
    I'd second checking out "Do They Know it's Christmas?", which came out before this song, and was created by huge 80's stars in the UK (Duran Duran, Culture Club, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Paul Young and many others.)

    Great reaction!!! The person who requested you react to this wins understatement of the year awards for their comment you said before you watched. "There's a couple good artists in this." These were ALL of the top artists back then. So many different genres. Legends from then and many decades before as well. And movie stars in there also. Dan Akroyd fresh from Ghostbusters that same year to name one. This was epic on so many levels it's chilling looking back now. Especially watching you react to it for the first time. Legendary producer Quincy Jones put up a sign there that said "Check your egos at the door." and everyone did. Imagine trying that now....It would be epic if we could make the USA do that for one day nowadays.

    I watched this when I was 10 years....the greatest artists together. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song. Love when Michael/Diana ross sing...but my favourite is Springsteen/Stevie wonder part...and Ray Charles.....gave so much soul & funk.

    Glad you dug this & appreciated the coolness of all the different genres and styles. I never get tired of this video. We could never get 40+ singers that talented to make a record today. You'll enjoy it even more when you're familiar with more of the artists!

    Every person that sang was a super start in the 80s. I remember when it came out.. I LOVED this song... a bunch of super stars getting together to help children and not taking any profit for themselves. It brought us all together.

    If this doesn’t prove that Quincy Jones is genius, I’m not sure what would.
    To bring this many amazing artists together - artists from so many different backgrounds, upbringings, genres of music to unify as one soul.

    Legends in one studio. They all left their egos at the door to unite with one voice for a good cause. Especially these times. Everyone of them has a unique voice. There were other artists that either turned it down or just couldn’t make the recording. I’m glad the younger gen is exploring music from the past. You have a lot of exploring to do. Enjoy your exploration.
