Bruce and Stevie.....the duet you never knew you needed!!!
Apparently even Quincy Jones didn't know he needed it either, until after reviewing the recording, he realized it still needed something more, so he called back Bruce & Stevie to perform that famous duet.
Kind of the way I felt when I first heard "Seven Spanish Angels" Ray Charles & Willie Nelson.
@@gk5891 couldn't agree more!!!
Indeed. Quincy put a lot of great voices together for overlap. Lionel and Stevie. Paul and Kenny. Tina and Billy. Diana and Michael. Dionne and Willie. Huey and Kim with Cyndi in the back. But yes the Bruce and Stevie duet was the cherry on top.
I think to put Stevie and Bruce Springsteen together their voices are so different if I hadn't seen it for myself I would think the person telling me was out of their mind beautiful combination
There was a day in 1985- Good Friday- where radio stations across the US played this song simultaneously. It was incredible. To do that before internet linkup! I think 8,000 was how many stations did this to raise money and awareness to help Africa.
I had no idea about the radio stations doing that, you are the first to mention it and it was an incredible idea.
@@Dazza010Yes, they did. This collaboration raised around $75 million to help alleviate the famine in Africa.
This was recorded directly after the American Music Awards ceremony. It was the only way they could get them all together in one place to record this beautiful song. ❤️❤️
FINALLY!!!! someone recognizes Dan Akroyd in th back. Cheers to you my friend!!!
My please, I am not sure how anyone could not recognise him in the back lol.
You idiots! That was not Dan Akroyd. However, you missed that was Harry Belafonte standing right next to that guy.
I think the guy singing with Kenny Rogers is Paul Simon from Simon & Art Garfunkel.
It was indeed Paul Simon.
Yes u are right, the guy who sings "You Can Call Me Al"
My favourite parts are Springsteen and Wonder duetting together and James Ingram’s last chorus. The part were he says “so let’s start giving” always gives me chills.
Those and the first Bruce Springfield part, are the best part of this song.
The song was not long enough so they brought the 2 back in for the end
Acho essas e a do Steve Perry. Ela também é emocionante. Como ele, assim como James, Bruce e Wonder cantam com a alma.
Cindy Lauper killed it!
There's a short video of her and the 2 others practicing. So enjoyable to watch them create the final product.
Quincy had a sign at the door leave your egos here. This is a great cast of all the top performers of the time. I was 10 when this came out. I was waiting for the radio to play it so I can record it on my tape to play in my walkman.
Today's generation dont realise how lucky they are. I remember them Sunday mornings sitting at the stack system waiting for the top 20 to come on to record. Then my first CD Walkman which had to be kept ultra still while walking lol.
@@Dazza010each of the soloists was a Grammy Winner!
Dan Ackroyd was included for his support of the blues as part of The Blues Brothers. BTW, he is standing next to the great Harry Belafonte.
I was 14 when this came out. It dominated the charts. I had never seen anything like it(and truth told, still haven't)
Cyndi's voice is so powerful!
5’3” powerhouse! Let it be known that a Brooklyn girl is not to be judged by size.
In 1985 American entertainer and social activist HARRY BELAFONTE had the idea to organize the recording of a song including all the generation's best-known music artists. He planned to have the proceeds donated to a new organization called UNITED SUPPORT of ARTISTS for AFRICA (USA for AFRICA). The non-profit foundation would then provide food and relief aid to starving people in Africa "WE ARE THE WORLD" is a CHARITY single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for AFRICA in 1985. It was written by MICHAEL JACKSON and LIONEL RICHIE and produced by QUINCY JONES and MICHAEL O' MARTIAN for the album WE ARE THE WORLD. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth BEST SELLING physical single OF ALL TIME.
Cindy took them to church! look at how she "church walked" up to the mike and shook her head while she was singing-classic church moves!!!!
"well well well let us re-a-lize! go head girl! Cindy wore that out!!!!!
I was born in 1979 and the famine in Ethiopia was the first news story that I remember taking notice of. I remember 6-year-old me asking my mom “why can’t we send food on planes?”
The first time I heard this song I remember crying partly bc it was so beautiful (my brain was like that… there’s also a Bach piece that made me cry every time I heard it) - but more importantly, I sensed that these people were trying to help. At the time I think the only one I knew who was, was Michael Jackson…. My dad liked Hall & Oates but I didn’t know what they looked like…. Oh and I think Stevie Wonder. Otherwise I didn’t know what a big deal everyone else was……… but I felt in my heart they were trying to help those people I had seen on the news.
Almost 40 years later and I still get choked up.
I can understand why it would choke you up and kudos to you as a child because not many 6 year olds would have them kind of feelings towards others in need of help.
@@Dazza010 aw that’s sweet thank you
This song and video were recorded right after the Grammy’s . There is a behind the scenes video that is really good. 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you Kim I will have to check that out. Merry Christmas :)
It was after the American Music Awards but close, it was the only way to get everyone together at the same time
Yes, this song and video was SO SO popular, it was INCREDIBLE .
I was around 14 when this magic happened. This song was played all over the World. I remember the day of 28th of March of 1986, like over 6.000 radio stations all over the planet, played the song simultaneously at 10:15am. I remember in schools (Italy) when they told us that the song would have been played all over the planet and it has been so... It has been the biggest moment of unification that I ever lived in my life. Something that is just utopia, a dream, at the day of today... I'm so glad that I'm coming from that era. Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie materialized a masterpiece that night in L.A. This song has been made for charity. All those superstars went for free to spend the night in a studio to record the song. Some of them arrived there straight from the American awards etc .. They all left just when the job was done in the morning. No financial compensation for that long amazing job that they did. A support to Africa, that's it. There is a fantastic documentary (presented "hosted" by Jane Fonda) that shows part of that magical night. Whoever is attracted by this song and wants to know more, I suggest to watch that documentary.
Yes, that was Dan Aykroyd. He was 1/2 of the blues duo „The Blues Brothers“. Yes it wasn’t just the name of a movie. He and Belushi cut several albums after their Saturday Night Live skit became so popular. Cheers
This was done in 1985 on the heels of Band-Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas?
Both were to raise relief money for Africa. They were gripped in a record famine that was killing millions of people.
We Are World initially (it still is for various projects) raised 75 million dollars, at the time.
Do They Know It's Christmas raised 10 million in one year.
The Band-Aid concert raised another 127 million.
Other relief charities also created concerts that raised money.
The most help came from everyday citizens.
Dan Aykroyd was part of a band called Blues Brothers, which was also a movie.
All of the artists are worth checking out!
This was actually done the year before I was born, I thought it was in the 90s for some reason. It certainly did raise a lot of money for a good cause and it probably still raises money for that cause today. I do know the Blues Brothers movie. I have watched it with my dad but that was a long time ago. As for Dan Aykroyd whenever I see his face all I can think of is Trading Places lol.
@Daz Reacts I was 8 years old, lol. Thanks for making me feel old....just kidding. 😉😆
@DazReacts Not only USA for Africa and Band Aid, but the heavy metal bands got together and did a song as well. They called their group Hear N Aid and song is Stars. Not much on the vocals but the guitar solo is incredible.
Stevie wonders voice just gives me a full body tingling. Stunning Voice
Couldnt agree more. Stevie Wonder is one of my all time favourites.
Awwww back in the day when I LOVED the music.
Who would have thought Dionne Warwick and Willie Nelson would be paired together..lol
I've watched a TON of reactions to this song/video. You're the only one who found something to laugh about.
I think it's more of excitement than emotional. I love it though. He is smiling hc he knows the greatness
This was an amazing time for us then. I cry everytime I watch it. Thanks!

SO many under-rated vocalists shown here. Al Jarreau and Jeffrey Osborne. Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston's Aunt)...
Whitney Houston’s _cousin._ Dionne Warwick is Cissy Houston’s maternal niece.
Lionel and Michael Jackson wrote this song.
It was beautifully written.
It was indeed a charity appeal. It was a fundraiser to combat the crippling famine in Ethiopia happening at the time. And not one artist got paid to do this. ❤
The UK had Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas" with all British stars which was 1st. That started the whole relief for Africa thing and it was led by Bob Geldof. USA For Africa "We Are The World" was the USA's relief song which came next. Canada had a relief song called Northern Lights "Tears Are Not Enough" with all Canadian stars. Lastly, there was a song done by all Heavy Metal artists from around the world called Hear n' Aid "We're Stars".
There's an updated version of this song that a bunch of musicians got together for to help after the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
I definitely have to check out the newer version. Although I probably know more artist from the 80s than the 2010s lol.
Yeah definitely! There could never be another USA for Africa, but I actually really liked the version for Haiti. I liked the rap bits towards the end, I liked how there was a similar diversity of artists, and I love LOVE the incorporation of 1985…. If you’ve seen it you will know. 💓
Grew up listening to these artists. So lucky to have seen many in concert. Especially journey 3x
I can never get over the way Quincy Jones paired up the voices. He is GENIUS! And when you scan the chorus and realize the superstars who did not do a "solo"... it is a little heartbreaking. I mean... Bette Midler?? Harry Belafonte?? and the rest of the Jacksons... etc. This video is archive quailty and a part of our history now.
Forget the shoes! You hear the voice and know is Michael!
Great song and great reaction. The guy singing next to Tina Turner is Billy Joel, one of the best and most prolific song writers in his day, as well as being a great singer and insane piano skills. Check out some of his live videos...my favorite live performance is Live in Long Island!! (regular videos are great as well)
I do know Billy Joel by voice but couldnt pick him out of a line based on appearance lol. I know a couple of his songs but should react to more music like his on the channel.
@@Dazza010 He has a full beard here, which he did not have in videos like Tell Her About It, The Longest Time and Uptown Girl a few years earlier.
Love your enthusiasm and adorable accent! Subbed! 🌹
Thank you Karen. Welcome to the channel there is plenty more to come :)
Google all the singers that participated in this project.
Incredible
I did that, there are some truly legendary artist in this one.
Steve perry voice is amazing
Thank you for spotting Dan Aykroyd! I literally watch these reviews just to see who spots him. He was invited to join when he stopped into the studio for something else.
Sadly only about 1 out of every 20 reviews I've watched someone spots him.

Band Aid was Bob Geldofs collaboration to raise money for Africa. U.S.A. for Africa, was of course, the American singing celebs raising money for them.
Billboard did a special procedure to make sure the song DEBUTED at #1 on its Hot 100 list immediately upon its release. And all the labels these artists were signed to gave them a one time release from their contracts to participate in this. Remember an artist can normally only record music on their label exclusively under law
Not sure if it was mentioned but there is an updated version of this song that was done for the 25th Anniversary to support Haiti after a devasting earthquake. A few others are Canada's "Tears are not enough" UK has "Do they know it's Christmas" Voices that Care" was done by actors & actresses and there is also one from the metal bands at the time but I can't remember the name. They are all worth watching. Happy Listening! Great reaction!
My favorite Stevie Wonder story was at this recording session he asked where the toilet was and Ray Charles said "Come on, I'll show you." 😁
My first time hearing Stevie Wonder was in the beach film „Muscle Beach Party“. The movie introduces Stevie as „Little Stevie Wonder“. I think he was 13 at the time. He was in the next beach movie as well „Bikini Beach“. His little spark turned into a COMET!Cheers
This is 1985. There is also a great 2010 version of this: WE ARE THE WORLD 25 for Haiti.
I was a youth when my cherie amour came out. It was my first pangs of love for a neighbour.
Love the idea of having the still living performers on AGT. With the appropriate replacements, it would be outstanding.
The guy before Kenny, was Paul Simon, of Simon and Garfunkel.
you were the first reviewer of this song that knew many of the participants in this video. Kudos to you I’ve seen at least 10 reviews and you’re the only one that identified Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie, Diana Ross and Bruce Springsteen for starters sadly, many of them are gone.
I agree! They should come together again 😍
Stevie broke his WHOLE foot off in this songs ass!
Other singers not identified. Paul Simon (with Kenny Rogers). Late James Ingram, Billy Joel (with Tina Turner). Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, late Al Jurreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall. Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes. RIP to the late singers.
This certainly was an incredible All Star cast of artists and actors.
My heart was broken into pieces last year in 2023, we lost a complete legend, Tina Turner, I did not want it to be true.RIP Tina 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💐💐💐🎤💔
This kind of collaboration to never happen today. Yes I'm aware they did remake the song with newer artists, but they were nowheres near the same caliber as the stars were in this day. These were legends. These people were the people that are the foundation of everything that you listen to today. It shocks me how many younger people don't know. Today it's All about Love of money and boosting your career. Of course they were egos back in the day but they were able to set those aside to do something for the greater good. And they did not get paid. They didn't need a boost to their career they were already legends with their careers made. You also don't have a Michael Jackson today to get everything together. Only someone with his power and his clout could bring all of these names together and co-write the song and arrange it. I believe the last time there was any collaboration together was after 9/11 and I don't believe any of them appeared together. Unless these are people who were more than willing to just sing a couple lines and then sing in the choir, nobody was demanding top billing or the kead vocals. Tell me that that would happen today!
Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner Billie Idol, Dionne Warrick, Willie Nelson, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Hughie Lewis, Cindy Lauper, Kim Carne,Bruce Springteen Kenny Loggins ,Steve Perry, Darryl Hall, Al Jarow,Bob Dillon,Ray Charles
Dan Akyroid was singing because he was in The Blues Brothers and had a great voice.
I have seen at least 80-100 reactions to this song, nut you are the first to recognise Dan Akroyd, and still only one has recogniced Harry Belafonte, and no one yet seen Bette Midler or La Toya Jackson and her brothers. Great view.
I was a teenager living in Europe when this came out.
This raised @$63 million dollars in 1985! Which is about $200mil today!!!
With Love from your newest sub ❤️ 😢
You can't hide your 80's musical knowledge watching/hearing this instant classic
Such great talent in the 80' s for sure
I'd like to see the ones who are still with us bring in some of the younger or newer artist or artist who weren't there and do this song again.
This is the Charity'est of the Charity videos you mentioned. This is the King of the Hill! There's been knock offs in later years for different causes of course but they all followed this one.
when the guy says "it's true we make a better day just you and me", and stevie say's "Yaaaaieyyyaaa then he rolls it as the guy says "just you" and me----I got messed up!!!!!!!
Gracias a michael x esta enorme canción..y todo lo q nos dejo❤❤
Please try Avi Kaplan's solo music. He was the basso profundo for 7 years but left to do his own thing. No one knew just how supremely talented he is. Quincy Jones is the conductor.
This is a Tribute to the American Service Members fighting the war in Iraq in 1991 called, Voices That Care.....David Foster made it with artists, Hollywood and sports celebrities, How many can you name.....and to be honest...the ONE your can't name, is the one with the best voice.....at the very end in yellow t-shirt....Warren Wiebe.....gone to soon from mental health issues.
Honestly I would be rubbish at the "How Many Can You Name" game in this. I know some of them but other faces went straight over my head.
I see Lad Baby has got the Christmas number 1 slot in the charts for the 5th year running. All proceeds will go to food banks. Can't think of a more worthy charity.
A knew most of the celebs and singers that featured in this but there were some who I didnt recognise. As for Lad Baby, I havent seen the Christmas charts for a very long time so honestly have no idea who they are. It certainly is a worthy cause for a song though.
@@Dazza010 I don’t watch the charts either. It was on the news.
Dan Aykroyd was included because of the Blues Brothers movie.
Stevie Wonder wrote Pasttime Paradis which is the foundation for Gangsters Paradise.
Waooo, this is mind blowing..
Oh like the original Band-Aid ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas’ tune isn’t as enjoyable and packed full of 80’s pop icons as this?
I know the song but I dont think I have ever seen the video. I will have to check it out.
Not saying it wasn't as enjoyable or didn't have amazing icons. Just maybe not as "packed full"?? Only because they had a very tight schedule for recording the original. I know Boy George came in at almost the absolute last minute. There is "The making of" for both of these amazing songs which are just fun to watch! This one had the luck of having everyone coming straight from an awards show. So they had the "time off" already!

I’m just here for the legends young people never recognize, like Al Jarreau( RIP) Kenny Loggins, James Ingram (RIP) , Smoky Robinson ,Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Kim Carnes, Huey Lewis, Bette Midler, and Daryl Hall. And they never notice the Pointer Sisters or the rest of the Jackson family including Latoya. And they always think Sheila E is Whitney Houston .
I was 9 when this song was released in 1985. I remember that it was big, not just because of the star power of the musicians who recorded the song but also because of the reasons why they recorded it. USA for Africa recorded it for free because Ethiopia, was experiencing a severe famine that had been going on for about 2 years at the time.Through the sale of the album, I think USA for Africa raised about 65 million dollars, which they then donated to various charities that could provide relief.
When it was first released, it was number 1 on several different charts (R&B, Adult Contemporary, etc). Although it only remained number 1 for about a month, it became the highest selling single of 1985.
I used to know all the lyrics, because our music teacher would always have us sing it in class. It always felt special to hear it played.
I was 8😊
There is a Making of to thisVideo; very interesting.
Yes charity appeal, they raised $100,000,000 for starving people in Africa.
All of those " artists " you mentioned have NOTHING on these REAL LEGENDS. Most of today's people can't even sing without some sort of electronic or computerized help like Autotune hahaha
Music from this era will never be beaten or replicated. There were just too many amazing artists back then that let their talent do the talking for them.

Canada 🇨🇦 has its supergroup. David Foster is the conductor. Bryan Adams, Tom Cochrane, Corey Hart, Geddy Lee, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Mike Reno, Neil Young are some of the singers.

Canada certainly does produce a lot of talents singers. I really like some of the music of Bryan Adams and my step son is hooked on Neil Young at times. Thank you for the video suggestion I will add it to the list :)
They actually got this idea from the British artist.. You should react to FEED THE WORLD by Band aid. Band aid was collective name used for the supergroup of British artist in the 80s. They did it first.
hi hello how are you, I just found your channel tonight, all your videos are very good
all these songs make me shed tears and can remember this again
oh by the way, which country do you come from and what city do you live in now??
Dan Aykroid got a pass/invite/allowed/ whatever, probably because of the "Blues Brothers" with John Belushi...
Good choice... a Song for a Cause!
Enjoyed it then, Lovin' it Still. Big Names coming together to help.
Didn't I hear M Pomoy sing this all by himself in one of his videos?
I have only heard Marcelito sing one song but judging from that I can only pressume he could cover every part of this fantastic song lol.

The music/instruments, Michael Jackson solos, and guiding vocal tracks were recorded at Kenny Rogers's Lion Share Studios in the days leading up to the big recording. Days later, some solos (Stevie Wonder) were also recorded at Lion Share.
He donated that studio time.
The singers gathered at A&M Studios.
Harry Bellefonte spoke to Kenny Rogers about a fundraising song. Kenny's long-time manager Ken Kregan spoke with Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Michael Jackson.
It was largely Ken Kragen, given his connections in the industry, who pulled more artists into the project.
no...where on earth did you get that from?
Ive watched a lot of reactions to this and you probably know a lot more of who these people are than the other reactors who are from here in the USA which is sad. Lol.
My name is Michelle Jackson... I was stopped in an airport yrs ago.. Michael Jackson... I was like no...first off... I'm a white woman... I know that Michael at that time looked more white than me... But I will always respect Michael Jackson his talent was amazing and I have no problem at all if someone confuses me .. Michelle Jackson or Michael Jackson.
When the notification for this comment came up on my phone I instantly thought, "How is Michael Jackson commenting on my video" lol. He certainly was an incredible talent, I dont think there would ever be another like him to be honest.
