    State government can't take a stake in Kolkata metro but can spend crores on painting the city in Blue & White and fixing trident lights all over the city. Had very high expectations from Mamta Government but now it feels that we have been dejected. Thinking whom to vote in 2021 as all the parties are corrupt. - A Howrah resident. 😭😭😭

    South Howrah has always been neglected, although it has the potential to generate revenue as high as other the other outskirts of Kolkata. As Nabanna came in, only few places around it was developed. Santragachi metro is a must.

    Santragachi is one of the major nerves of Kolkata. The sheer volume of commuters can be seen if one stands at Rabindra Sadan and Esplanade for a few minutes.
    Not to mention Santragachi and Nabanna has huge bus stand that can be used as Metro stations

    It's 2023 October now, Howrah Maidan Metro is yet to open in December till Esplanade, Sealdah to Sector V is already operational, let's see after the opening of the full stretch (Esplanade-Sealdah), the expansion towards Santragachi starts or not. As of now the Haldiram side is delayed due to funding issues (state denied funding again so centre didn't approve). Centre already approved 6000 Cr for new rakes, aluminium 3rd rail and platform screen doors for Blue line recently.
    Majher Hat to Esplanade section of Purple line is approved and L&T is working on it.
    Let's hope after the current ongoing works get done the new line works will start soon.
    Edit: it's Feb 2024 now, still the Howrah Maidan - Esplanade metro operations haven't started yet. CRS visit has been done twice now and some comments were made which the metro authority is implementing now.
    Majherhat station of Purple line will also open very soon as high speed trials has been done, so now instead of Joka - Taratala, metro will run from Joka - Majherhat.
    New Garia - Rubi section of Orange line has been given green signal also to commence operations.

    Yes, running metro rail cannot be the responsibility of railways alone. The state government should come forward and show interest to bear a certain percentage of the cost of construction and operations. For the future interest and convenience of its own people.

    That's true. Why will Indian Railway bear entire cost? Every other cities are rapidly expanding their metro corridors. TMC is more interested in politics, syndicate, cut money and corruption than infrastructure projects and development. The government has deep rooted itself in corruption. This needs to change. 2021 will show the change.

    Thanks for this upload. I wonder why after so many years, we still do not have links between the most important transit points which leads into and out of Kolkata i.e. between the main rail terminals, links of different parts of the city with Salt lake and parts of greater Kolkata, and obviously, the link between airport and most important rail terminals. Metro rail eases traffic and takes away much tension from daily commuters as well as travellers.

    Make the construction video of kolkata metro route wise. Specially noapara dakshineswar and noapara barasat metro. Also the east west metro. If possible give some information from esplanade to majherhat metro construction. Also show the construction video or information regarding new garia baruipur metro. Also give some updates regarding sector 5 to teghoria and sealdah to esplanade metro work.

      Joka metro is the biggest joke has ever made, without its head or tail, the project still hasn't aquired it's land for its car shade. There is nothing to make a video on it basically, it has only developed a nice decorated garden area below the metro bridge and I guess residents of that area are supper happy with it as TMC is winning every time from there with thousands of votes.

    A parallel mode of public transport or expansion of Andul road is immediately needed at Dhulagarh Andul road region. Andul road is totally chocked due to overcrowding of vehicles. And hundreds of Totos are the cherry on the top. There is no interconnection road also between Andul road and Kona Expressway. If the metro project gets approved today also, it will take minimum 3-5 years (in a very optimistic way) to get completed. Till then what??? Sadly nobody is raising the issue. Kona Expressway, Belepole and its surrounding areas are getting facelift and expansion as few of the VIPs reside there. But nobody seems to bother about Andul road. Despite the fact that by Andul Road the distance to Second Bridge from NH6 is almost 30% less. It could have been the perfect load sharer of Kona Expressway.

    Proposed projects may or may not come true. But we have seen that metro project in Kochi had been completed in three and half years. That is a state of the art project too. In Nagpur too a state of the art metro project has been completed within a very short period.
    In WB simply acquiring land near by pass for east west metro had gone through so many complications. There has been change in its route adding more complications.
    Noapara to Dakshineshwar metro of only 4 km is not completed in more than 10 years. I am now 70 and I will be happy if these projects are completed within my life time.

    It's good to know that this project was only shelved and not completely rejected. I guess the metro authority should focus on the existing extension to Howrah via the underwater tunnel. Projects like these take time. In the meantime, the state government too needs to sponsor metro constructions on PPP model like DMRC.

These people have cancelled the Hyperloop project, and are against the Bullet train project. These guys didn't even allow the construction of the depot at Safety, citing "environmental reasons and that trees will be cut" but he's allowing the cutting of trees for a golf course in Navi Mumbai. Bloody hell. His government will fail, mind you, soon.
      Sure, mota Bhai mast bhi having some plans for Bengal. His way of doing the right will surely get the lost glory.

    Extend also to Andul, as that along with Dankuni, are expected to be major entry exit point to Kolkata for trains coming from South and going to NE or North Bihar. Like extending the Daksineswar Metro to Dankuni. Onve the EDFC is completed, Dankuni will become a major business hub. With DFC between Kolkata and Kumbai and KGP to Vijaywada also sanctioned, the Sankrail, andul terminal will also become a major business hub and hence extendin the metro till there, is imperative. As for the Haldiram Extension, why do they not have dual guage till airport? That way the EW Metro can also start from Airport and would be far more effective.

    A metro project takes 20 years to complete in Calcutta. Extensions are unthinkable in this situation. Let the ongoing projects, which are over delayed, complete at the earliest, then extension could be thought off. Railways will not burn its fingers further in an inhospitable terrain.

    In 2004, The westbengal government gave 33% of project cost to Tollygangue-New Garia metro project, though the Railway did not recognise it in a proper way.

      In all the cities mentioned, the state government of those respective cities all have stakes in those metro construction and operation. Only in WB it is a 100% railway operation.
      The state government should have a stake!

    Private players should be involved or no expansion is ever gonna take place. Kolkata has great potential but the govt is busy funding clubs instead of infrastructure, centre is buying MLA's instead of paying back the GST it owes to states. People cheering for both when both are ethically wrong to do.
    We elected clowns and are now surprised to see the circus.

Mamata was reelected right after a week the flyover fell in Kolkata killing so many people with even bigger mandate. It was fresh in the memory of the people yet she won. BJP was reelected in Centre even after it did Demonetisation and GST and destroyed the economy likewise with a bigger mandate. So yes people elected clowns and now are surprised of the circus.

    The pace of metro rail extention in Kolkata is very tardy in contrast to the steep rise in population. Metro rail projects needs to be prioritised and new metro routes should be explored in other two tier cities in Bengal like Siliguri and Asansol. Concerned authorities ought to consider the matter seriously.

    I think some MNCs need to set up offices in west Kolkata (Howrah) side to ease the flow of commuters. If Dhulagarh and it's surrounding areas will be planned and build like Newtown then it would be great for job seekers and decongest central Kolkata and sector V and Newtown areas.
