Those who don't know, Esplanade is also called Dharamtala, also santragachi is a major railway station
Esplanade is the entire stretch from Dhormotola (Lenin Sarani) to Chandpal Ghat. The word "Esplanade" means an open area near/alongside a river. So, only a part of Dhormotola and Esplanade are the same. Sorry for the pedantry.
Kolkata not only handles population of it's own city, but total state, and also good portion of Eastern India and also our neighboring countries. Thus the traffic system is an incredible one. Traffic police of Calcutta performs an incredible job. Salute their effort. But reinstating of modern tram system is the need of the hour. Government must rethink about it.
r u frm Kolkata?
I am born and brought up in Kolkata.
Trams has special place in my heart as well but it has many shortcomings with very less benefit.
1.It is the biggest cause of two wheeler accident in Kolkata due to slippery metal lines.
2.Tram stops are in middle of the road with no sync with traffic lights so its a hazrat to get up and down from trams.
3. Trams are slow- it can pickup speed with time but breaks are not prompt either.
4. Power cut or power cable snaps means it will remain in the middle of the road unless power is restored. This causes traffic jams and unreliable mode of transport for passengers as well.
Metro rails is its own problems but its far more effective than trams.
@@shoaibtanvir3560 Sounds like the city planners are incompetent.
I agree Kolkata has one of the best public transportation system. Some idiots will say people in Kolkata are poor so they use less private cars, they prefer cheap transportation bla, bla, bla..but they should know that is why Public Transportation is being focused on all over India now..to decongest road, save precious petrol-diesel, time and pollution. The Dakhineswar extension has immensely helped the ppl of North Suburban Kolkata.
vehicles are depreciating asset also. It's not benificial to use that.
Need metro in Siliguri.
You just want to be hide the truth.
Kolkata is the only gem of West Bengal.
People in Kolkata has private vehicles and the ownership is increasing day by day.
The traffic though not as bad as Bangalore is equally very bad.
I mean there aren't many cities which has an hour and half travel time for mere 12 kms.
From 8B to howrah is a nightmare by bus.
Bongs prefer cheap transportation because of their Communist hangover.
If there's an increase of mere 1 to 2 rupees in bus fare, you have all the commie pigs jamming the roads and all.
And transportation? Have you even seen the condition of buses of Kolkata? Or the yellow taxi?
Gosh!! You must be living in some parallel Kolkata i assume.
@@KejriwalBhakt If the protesters are commie pigs, then what are you? Cowdung cake head? No one came to the street to protest against bus fare hike especially post covid, it was the government only. Ppl wanted only a regulated fare chart bcoz all routes were charging differently. And public transportation has nothing to do with communism or capitalism. Just becoz u know English doesn't mean u will come on SM and do shit. This isn't your latrine.
I run a software company in Kolkata. I don't own a car and don't plan to own one in the next few years. We're not poor, we just don't feel the need to own a car.
Bangalore is behind Kolkata in terms of traffic congestion is totally wrong. I urge you to visit Bangalore and travel during 5pm - 8pm slot and visit Kolkata during it's most congested period, at around 8pm during Durga Puja festival. You'll come to know the difference, it may be congested, but Kolkata's traffic police and management is a class to behold. I urge you to experience this on your own.
Update urself
@@abhishekbhadra4289 nope. He is right. Kolkata has by far one of the best traffic among all the tier 1 cities. Only behind Delhi. You can reach literally ANY part of city using bus and sub urban railways.
@@abhishekbhadra4289 you should tell that to yourself because he is absolutely right. Bangalore traffic congestion is on a different level. Also, since Bangalore has a poor public transport system it has way too many two-wheelers that makes the traffic worst.
@@abhishekbhadra4289 He is right. Apart from wide variety of public convience available in Kolkata, city police has imposed so many rules to make city decongest during peak hours. The one way traffic regulation is only seen in Kolkata where traffic flows unidirectional on one road for easy movement, also there is unique concept of tidal traffic flow where the traffic direction get reversed in morning and evening hours to avoid traffic snarls.
Bangalore has more cars than poor Kolkata, so bangalore traffic is much worse than Kolkata, people in kolkata are happy with free cycles provided by their dear didi so traffic jam is not an issue
Kolkata is not more congested than Bangalore. Kolkata has less road percent than Bangalore is correct. But Kolkata Traffic Police is expert at managing traffic. I don't know how they do it, but on paper Kolkata should be much more congested than Bangalore, but there not even half as congested. I have lived in both the cities, so I can vouch for it.
Very well said. Thankyou.
I fully agree
I also agree
Let me tell you the reason kolkata most people dont have money like Bangalore people kolkata Bengali are Vikhari dont have cars use suburban railway or bus tram kolkata metro some people walk for 5 km some cycle for 10 km thats the reason poor bengali cant buy cars like bangalore people maybe that’s belessing in disguise

Kolkata is really congested yes, scores of people swarm in packed roads but trust me when i say this, its WAY less congested than Bangalore.
Congestion in Kolkata peak hours is equivalent to Bangalore in non peak time & thats partly due to good traffic management by the Kolkata police.
Facts. The way KP manages something as trivial yet mind-boggling as the traffic created by South Point School, it just speaks volumes. I'm a resident of the area (and ex-student), and I've seen the improvement over the decade, it really is a feat.
As someone who has lived both places, Bangalore is not as bad. Or is it because I lived in Bangalore during the pandemic.
Kolkata police traffic management is really good, during the Durga Puja, I felt that. Every other city comes to a standstill.
I am just disappointed at Kolkata letting the tram die and replacing it with battery power buses.
@@otherssingpuree1779 Kolkata is really congested but the traffic movement never stops.
@@otherssingpuree1779 banglore's problems are during peak hours in some roads eg western part of orr, all roads north of cubbon park are also really narrow so there is huge congestion between yelahaka and cubbon park and finally hosur road which despite being a highway with 3 lanes on either side and a flyover along with service roads still is heavily congested, moving for just 10km from electronic city to silk board during evenings takes at least one and a half hour
The congestion in Bangalore is due to the half of Bengal's population living and working there due to unemployment and deindustrialization in Kolkata and whole of WB since the Communist era.

The first metro rail was planned in 1921 (not 1949) and was a plan for an underwater tunnel under the Hooghly river. The plan was later canceled by the Government of British India due to its high cost.
It was between Howrah station to chalta bagan of manicktala market
@@hrithikbon1422 Kankurgachi to Salkia.
The tunneling work under the river is actually complete. The Howrah and Howrah Maidan stations will reach completion soon. The only challenge in this line now is the construction of a few "safety" tunnels in the Bowbazar (between Sealdah and Esplanade) section. Due to many old, dilapidated buildings being located in the area, and the soil being unstable, tunneling has faced major hurdles and the cost has mounted significantly.

Kolkata is way less congested compared to the other cities mentioned in this video. Yes, peak hours do hamper the travel time but Kolkata is probably the only city in India that has all sorts of transportation mediums available, which actually helps people travel at their convenience.

Kolkata has the slowest construction of metros in the whole world. Nothing ever inaugurate before 10 years. This is all because it's the only metro network fully controlled by Indian Railways so everything in the management and fund has to go through a huge line of people, like everything else under Indian Railways.

Kolkata is much better in terms of public transport system and fast commute than lot of other cities. It's a massive city in terms of length and breadth. The EM bypass connecting South to extreme north is massive, there are 4 bridges over the ganges connecting Kolkata district to howrah and hoogly. With the metro completion the city's traffic will become faster. Ferry services across ganga should be improved more. Port trust which for no reason chokes parts of the ganga banks with its defunct warehouses should rebuild those places with better ferry stations

I live in Kolkata and our metro & overall transport system is the best thing in our city. Also metros are very clean and busses reach to the corners of Kolkata. Using cars feels tiring since metro or local trains provide the shortest distance to many important places
Metro should also connect the leftover parts of Old Calcutta. Even Kalyani & Srerampore Belt of Hooghly & Urban North Howrah should be connected to Metro
U can write this to Kolkata metro, 1st see if they r planning to do it, then write to them
Lovely video. Extremely well made. Always waiting for the next video!

Can we just appreciate this guy. He made his whole channel revolving around metros. Still with his content fetch so many views.
You should consider suburban railway as well when you are laying put the metro map. So people can get an idea of how the city accomadetes all modes of transports. You can title it as Chennai Urban Transport. You can also include if dedicated lane for bus is there as well. Gives so much realistic view of the whole city transport infrastructure.
Transportation in Kolkata is way better than any city in the World, specially the bus service, it goes anywhere and everywhere and it stops everywhere, and its dirt cheap. What else u want???? Excellent taxi services, auto services, metro, trams, rikshaws. I have been to many cities, there is no other cities in the World like it. If you have Rs50 in ur pocket u can go back and forth to any corner of the city just by bus. The cheap busses dont look too cool but it does the job pretty efficiently. Traffic management is best to none in India. Plus there are local trains running from South to North. Everything is dirt cheap except for Uber or Ola. But they offer two wheeler and even rikshaw services which are affordable.
Masterpiece 🔥

Kolkata desparately needs more transport lines connecting the southern suburbs. The only lifeline here is the Sealdah South Railway which is crowded round-the-clock and becomes inhumanly crowded during office hours. With Baruipur becoming distict HQ of S-24Parganas district, the crowd is going to grow exponentially, but the existing railway has no scope for expansion. An alternative metro-like arrangement is urgently needed.

Kochi metro is also growing
Phase 1 was opened in 2017 from aluva to MG road and then extended till petta and tripunithura terminal
Now phase 2 work is going on to infopark ( IT hub of kerala in kochi) and from aluva to extend till kochi airport
Joining Howrah Station and Sealdah station with metro is one of the best
Because those who travels that area regularly knows that how much time is consumed due to heavy traffic specially in office hours

It's very surprising that no one thinks about extending present Dakhineswar Metro upto Bali Station at Howrah, directly connecting Bardhaman Main, Bardhaman Chord, Dankuni & Hooghly regions through Railway lines and Roads. Probable Costing to implement this short stint but commercially viable Metro project from Dakhineswar to Bally Railway station will not be high at all, even metro lines, like E-W netro may go under the Hooghly river. Now, who will think for such important metro augmentation ?
They will not because of over crowd unless they built another side by dide line
You explained it like a genius 🤗

Kolkata has better traffic connectivity overall compared to Mumbai and Bengaluru... Delhi scores a little better because of the sheer size of its metro network...
Little better😂😂 I would place it 10 spots higher. The connectivity DMRC has is miles apart.
Also construction is like decades faster. I went to college in 2018 and by the time I passed my first semester the line I travelled in opened completely and by the time I graduated it formed a complete ring around the city.
Meanwhile I go to my home town. The same linear singular metro line since the past decade, even the names are so confusing, sure name it on famous personalities but how are outsiders gonna know what station it is?
Kolkata dont have many job so far less office going traffic than Bangalore

Such a nice presentation. But some things I want to add that Kolkata is the only metro that comes under Indian Railway and others are Private that makes the kolkata metro fare is cheaper than the other metros.
Because of a multiple political intervention and govt organizations the process is much slower for the last 2 decades however now it catch the pace. Also the orange Line will be the fastest metrorail in India.
Kolkata traffic management us much better than Bengaluru, Mumbai. During peak hours or in shower time traffic and public transportation is horrible in Bengaluru. Delhi traffic is best in our country due to it's sheer metro network.

I am not a mamta fan by any means, and I lived in the city in the late 1980s. despite less vehicles it was way harder to travel, partly due to arteries dug out for metro. Now when I go its the most easy to travel of Indian metros. Fastest. Partly traffic management. partly building lots of flyovers. partly metro etc. Kolkata has developed amazingly. Each time I wonder if they are so poor how come there are new cool cafes and restaurants and bars popping up every time I visit. Malls are buzzing. lots of really creative and arty shopping. New town used to be like a desert, now its also kind of congested. What is fueling the growth? Definitely Kolkata under Mamta is a buzzing city where even the poor also manage a comfortable life. I think only corporate jobs are missing, but I predict in ten years things will change. Oh newtown looks great too.
