I've been listening metro extension from Dumdum to Barrackpore since childhood and now I'm 35. Thanks to you for atleast mentioning the name Baidyabati in your plan, as I belong from this small town (Baidyabati) in Hooghly.

Being a resident of Chandannagar (just 10Kms from Serampore), as much as I would love to get metro connectivity upto Serampore, I don't think a line via Dankuni or Delhi Road ignoring areas of Konnagar, Uttarpara and Bally would ever be feasible...
Despite you said the fact that the area would develop after approval of Metro connectivity..I don't think it would make much of a difference...See Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line...Inspite of Metro connectivity, most of the area is still vacant, and the metros go way less than Capacity..
New Town was always stated to be a IT Hub n Residential hub even before the metro construction started..And Joka had an IIM so...
A Connectivity from Howrah Maidan to Bally-Uttarpara via Liluah, Belur Math via GT Road would make much more sense....
Secondly, 19 metro corridors would be too much to handle judging how incompetent current Indian Railways Kolkata Metro division are ( sorry, to say that)..Even Delhi Metro has 10 lines despite having 400+Kms and only 3,4 new lines in phase 4...
We should first consider increasing connectivity within the City..Completion of the Existing lines as soon as possible and a few New Lines like..
    1. Ruby to Majherhat via Kalighat, Gariahat Crossing.
    2. Howrah Maidan to Bally-Uttarpara(as mentioned above), maybe to Serampore or Chandannagar in future.
    would be enough...

The problem with Noida is, residents of Noida mostly belong to a class of people who prefer using their private car to commute. Even if they have metro, they prefer commuting in their cars everyday. Fortunately, Kolkata has a mentality of using public transport. Even if we have our private vehicle, we prefer going by bus or by metro.... a positive point.
      Personal Opinion though!

    • @tanaybhattacharya8323
      @tanaybhattacharya8323 4 года назад +1

@@MetroRailBlog I agree..But, again the Blue line of DMRC is running as per capacity inspite of the Car-loving folks..
I've lot of friends travelling from Noida to Delhi daily saying they would have preffered taking the metro if the line was upto Botanical Garden instead of the present alignment..But, they are compelled to take Cabs...
Similarly, instead of taking the route alignment through predominantly rural and vacant Delhi Road, an alignment through Liluah, Belur Math, Uttarpara, Konnagar via GT Road ( despite, the narrow width of GT Road, that's why I told upto Uttarpara for now...) would make much more sense, as we all know the Metro fares need to be increased in future to maintain the services, and the local people in the intermediate regions would anyday prefer the existing Local trains or a better Bus connectivity from Serampore to Dankuni..
The proposed line can use the unused Howrah-Belur Math local tracks..And then a short underground stretch from Belur Math to Uttarpara..That would be much more viable..
By the way, love your Videos..

A fine treatment on metro plans for Kolkata. Would like an analysis on a) why metro construction takes more than 10 years in Kolkata compared to other cities where its up and running in less than half the time .b) Is Kolkata metro self sustainable ? If not , why and what are the impediments ? c) Once the Howrah Maidan - Sector 5 stretch becomes operational, trains are expected to be full at Howrah itself depriving passengers in intermediate stations to get a foothold. How Metro looks to address this problem ? 4) While Santragachi extension from Howrah maidan is a good proposal , a Bally connection to Dakshineswar will mitigate travel of Hooghly belt travellers to sector 5 who can then come to Bally by EMU , take the metro to Sealdah and hop onto E-W metro to sector 5.

So it's better to connect them n-s route and extension should be like from dakhineswar to shirampur connecting bally, uttarpar, hindmotor, konnagar, rishra & shirampur because this areas are fully crowded & need a good alternative in this case metro is the best...

One thing, if the metro is considered upto Shrirampur, then why it is not conceptually streched by another 20 km to directly catch up all the jamming commuter stream from the Chandannagar to Bandel jn. region, consisting of the Hooghly-district headquarter Chuchura-Hooghly region, and the important across Hooghly-river llinked commuters (just ahead of core of Kolkata)?! Specially while this cross-river traffic is expected to get up much heavier soon, with the upcoming megaprojects at Kalyani and the Nadia-Hooghly-N 24 Pgs traffic? The whole northern lot of suburbs may not contain crucially important areas for the city Kolkata but it definitely have the crowd it needs to operate for the metro, due to age-old aggregation of the population by the industrial flourishment in the past along the two sides of the river.
Though for another insight, it is demand of time to connect the 31-no-road junction of GT Road at Shrirampur, with the Chiria more junction of BT Road at Barrackpore on the two sides of river Hooghly, by a road bridge for sake of relieving some amount from the huge existing pressure on the ferry system. Rail junction across the river of the northern suburban is saturated with the main-line connection at Bandel-Naihati and Calcutta-Chord Link line (CCL-line) at Dankuni-Dumdum (Interestingly, the CCL line is being closely followed by the further strech of N-S line ahead of Dum Dum, let it follow completely upto Dankuni!); but the road junction lacks, it needs to be atleast another one addition at the busy node across Serampore-Barrackpore.
