    Dick calling Bruce ‘Dad’ at some point is an absolute must. I’m honestly not a fan of when their separation is made some huge fallout or their relationship becoming antagonistic or bitter in any way. I will always prefer Dick simply wanting to become his own man after enough time and both of them having nothing but support and admiration for one another.
    Dick wasn’t simply raised by Bruce (really both were raised by Alfred, as are most of the Batfamily to be completely honest), as both grew and taught each other how to become better people. Bruce taught Dick responsibility and maturity while Dick teaches Bruce to be more compassionate and trusting.

    • @Artryom
      @Artryom 7 месяцев назад +8

      Bruh, pls no, it feels so special they have a father-son bond without taking it too far. Bruce didn’t want to adopt him because Grayson has a father that he cherishes and celebrate who taught him a ton and helped shape him before Bruce came along. Maybe he calls him a father like in 2003 Teen Titans but we don’t need anything like in the issue that takes place after DCOIE during their “special moment” where he asked Bruce if he was ready.

    • @StevenJG
      @StevenJG 7 месяцев назад +54

      @@Artryom Bruh? There have been numerous times throughout the years where they’ve referred to one another as father and son. With most of the time it being when Dick is Nightwing, with enough time having passed for Dick to grow wise enough to fully appreciate Bruce’s guidance and how the relationship has impacted both their lives. Much like how younger people may take time to adjust before calling their guardians through adoption or step-parents through marriage something more familial and sentimental.
      Plus, depending on the continuity, with Dick’s parents typically having passed when he was ages 8-12, Bruce has been present for just as long and in some cases longer in his life as his birth father was. Similar to how Alfred’s been Bruce’s father for the better part of 20+ years.
      Overall, Dick calling Bruce his ‘Dad’ doesn’t erase the memories and love Dick has for his birth parents.

    • @Artryom
      @Artryom 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@StevenJG Bruh? I mean, you can count on a single hand how many times they've done that through practically a century filled with stories together but you make a fair point about the adoption and step-parent part despite those being case by case for each situation. My point is, hopefully they don't fill it up to the brim with that, it's something unique about their unspoken familial bond that's more than simply Mentor and Mentee.
      Lowkey it kind of does, iirc it's exactly like erasing his fond memories of them that fuels his origin story and replaces his father with Bruce. I'm trying to remember where Bruce admits to feeling like that and not officially adopting him for the longest. I get that a big part of his development is not allowing the trauma of that night slow him down or add to his stories and flaws like Bruce but John and Mary deserve to mean something more to him, it's one of the things that makes him more similar and relatable to Bruce.
      He can appreciate Bruce's guidance and support without calling him dad too.

    I REALLY want a Nightwing movie in James’s universe. Like imagine Nightwing going on adventures of Bludhaven, asking Bruce for advice on how be his own hero, seeing his and Barbara’s relationship (still pissed about her movie being canceled)

    • @Artryom
      @Artryom 7 месяцев назад +5

      It wouldn’t make sense for him to ask Bruce how to be his own hero when he’s trying to get out of his shadow.🤣 Which is why he goes to Superman sometimes for the advice mostly. Such as in Tom Taylor’s run before Superman entrust Jon’s mentorship to him. One of the primary reasons for him becoming Nightwing is so he’s out of Bruce’s shadow and one of his deepest fears is inheriting Bruce’s core flaws. The distrust, loneliness and the lack of care of going down even the darkest paths simply to “win”. Young Justice did it pretty alright, the comics did it better. Adventures in Blüdhaven is great.

Comic book Batman isn't Adam west's Batman. Tower of Babel is the greatest example but yk. Nobody said Batman's the bad option, did I? Just isn't the option for Grayson. Thank you so much for the video! I always love thinking about Dick... Grayson.
    I gotta admit whenever I think about the inevitable parting of ways between Nightwing and Batman I never really imagine it as a shouting match. Maybe it's because I always view Batman as someone very stoic, who can only ever be mad with himself and would just never allow him that kind of emotional release... and that kind of thing is the very thing that bothers Dick so much.
    I always thought the central conflict between the two when they really part ways is that Batman, whether he knew it or not, was training Dick to replace him and Dick was initially on board for that but as he got older and saw and understood more about Bruce, he realized he just couldn't be that. Bruce will always put the mission above all else. He values people, and life and friendships but when it comes down the wire... Bruce will sacrifice himself on the alter of the mission. And Dick doesn't want that, he knows that over time it just leads to being alone.
    That's another thing that I think seperates the two in a really good way. Dick makes friends with intense ease but Bruce always wants to keep people at arms length. Is Clark a friend or a colleague? Clark would definitely call them friends but... Bruce doesn't want to frame it that way.
    So... what am I building up to? If there's one thing that this pitch maybe coud use it's an intiallzing incident for the character conflict between Bruce and Dick. What makes it so that the little things that have built up over their whole relationship need to be acted on now? Barbara getting hurt.
    Adapting Killing Joke is... 10 miles of hard road for even the most talented people but I think that would really crystalize everything coming together. It even would give Dick and Barbara something weirdly in common at this time in their life. They're both figuring out who they are outside of the context Bruce gave them. Dick by choice, Barbara less so. That's why Barbara is in Dick's corner so hard right now. She knows what's it's like to have to rediscover yourself, and she gets to learn a little too.
    I also think it's worth noting, I think Dick leaving is also a good opportunity for Bruce's character growth. Realizing that the way he works does add up to being alone if left on a long enough timeline... And he shouldn't want the people in his life to necessarily follow directly in his footsteps. He should want them to be their own people.
    But yeah, I've also had 8 billion thoughts about adapting Nightwing in a big budget context so your video just brought a lot of them back to the surface.
    Thaks again, here's to your next video and the RUclips Algorytm being kind. All the engagemens go!

    Hey Troy. Got a lot to say, all positive.
    Troy, as of late, I think I’m confident in saying you’re my favorite person on the platform. Not only do you have fresh, unique takes on different heroes that I, even though I’m not really that much of a comic book fan, have never seen before. You also bring heart to every topic you cover. That’s really what I like about this channel. There’s so much raw heart to it. Pointing out flaws of the topics you’re covering despite your clear love for them. You manage to inspire me, as a writer, to grow and be better at building consistent, well structured stories.
    And as a writer, I want to address the last part of the video. I struggle with my writing. Every word is hard to squeeze out of myself. I don’t really have an audience of readers, just a few friends, but I dedicate literal years of my life to writing out big novels, bigger than some well-known books. And I struggle with every word I write because… I have no idea whether I’m good enough. Whether what I write people would find engaging and want to stick with reading. But I’ve been told by a friend that… if your writing has heart and soul put into it, the reader or the viewer will be able to see that and enjoy the story, whether it’s good, okay or kinda bad. At the end of the day, it’s all in the heart. And I can see that your heart is big and passionate.
    I hope you take care of yourself well. And I hope the last part of this long comment helped you in one way or another.
    -Love, Jody (don’t ask me why I do this at the end of comments, I just think it’s kinda cute)

    I know my opinion is not wanted or needed but my favourite fan cast is my brother he’s in university studying acting and he is so amazing he got the whole audience crying with this scene where (he was the main character grieving the death of his wife) he was standing over his wife’s tombstone and sat on his knees and started crying and the main reason I chose him as my fan cast was because by the time he’s out of university he will be 20 and he’s got a mullet and he loves night wing he’s really obsessed with him TLDR: my brother is my fan cast because he’s literally everything troyoboyo17 wants nightwing to be

    My sister actually has an interesting interpretation of why Bruce doesn’t let Dick come on extremely dangerous missions. She thinks that it’s not that Bruce doesn’t want to loose anyone else again (that’s for Tim after loosing Jason) it’s more about Bruce not wanting Dick to loose anyone else.

    Hey bro, I love your Nightwing movie pitch for James Gunn’s DCU. For the casting, I would love to see Hero Fiennes Tiffin for the role of Dick Grayson/Nightwing. Even though it was interesting to find out the character is Romani from his mother’s side. But Hero can play the humble, sweet, understanding, and can do action scenes. For Barbara Gordon/Oracle, I would love to see Nancy Drew’s actress Kennedy McMann take on the role. Anyways, nice job on your Nightwing pitch and have a Happy New Year! 🎈🎊🎆

    I fucks wit this. I think you really capture that complicated relationship relationship that Dick and Bruce have at the start of Dick leaving. There is love there. They're both just not the greatest at either expressing it or seeing it from the other's perspective. But once they do, it becomes something better. I love Dick Grayson, and I really hope we get a movie or a show in this new universe.

    I dont really like how dependant Dick is to Bruce in this pitch. It’s a Nightwing film not a team up. Although i do think this is a great idea for a film i would like something else for Nightwing. If this were a real pitch i would think its a pitch for “Batman and Nightwing”. A study into the relationship between Bruce and Dick. A Nightwing film should be much more independent from Bruce.

    • @Elephantsaresupreme

      @@Elephantsaresupreme i understand. But my point is a movie solely titled Nightwing shouldn’t be an origin film. Batman is so important to Dick that his origins cannot be done in a solo film. It just feels wrong to me

  • @redhood9603

    Wasn't Dick's "Romani heritage" pretty much a one-off thing? Yeah, it has been occasionally re-introduced since then, but it never really amounts to anything, nor do I think it should. For over 60 years beforehand, literally since his introduction, Dick's ethnic background had been broadly Caucasian and I think that's perfectly fine.
    Otherwise, this was a fine pitch for a Grayson story. Perhaps I would focus on making your Bruce a bit more unique though. In the current version, he really feels like your most "basic" Batman and I think you'd want your viewers to connect with both sides of the "Bruce/Dick" conflict a little more.
    Also... doesn't the story feel a bit like a light version of Daredevil?

      it was alright, i'm kinda unsatisfied with the end. It's established early on that he's messy and physically inferior and keeps getting saved by batman, I wish by the end he reached a point where he was very skilled and able to take down, either deathstroke or the other guy with skill as well as smarts. He just keeps consistently losing physical battles. if it wasn't going to be resolved then why establish it at all?

    I want to tell you this right now. I have never EVER heard a story pitch(and I've heard a lot of them through videos or just my friends and family discussing stories) that I have fully agreed with. Your writing and storytelling was incredible even down to the small details. I've even had discussions with people about how the new Nightwing should be Romani and that they should have Romani culture consultants or Romani writers to help authentically represent that side of Dick and somehow have that play into the message of the main story. Also Oracle should be played by an actress with chronic pain that uses a wheelchair in real life. This way she could stand for some flashback scenes and then they can cut to a stunt double fighting. The way you portrayed every character in your story(especially Nightwing) showed me that you live up to your title and you indeed are a fanboy and I geniunley hope that if James Gunn doesn't get you in the writer's room that he gets someone like you. You should definitely try to get in touch with him.
