    btw, to add all the textures from your folder press ctrl + shift + T It wasn't said in the video but that's how you do it. Also not every texture needs a metallic map, unless its metallic. And I don't even know what an edge map is or seen one used in any textures I've downloaded so I don't think you need that one.

    Found materialize on my own a few months ago, used it to turn a normal map I had into a displacement map (which in hindsight, I could’ve just used vector displacement, but hey whatevs) and figured that’s about all it’s good for. I am VERY glad to find this video and see what it’s capable of.

  • @mavkoshv9149
    @mavkoshv9149 2 года назад +91

    Great program but there is problem with height/displacement map export with Materialize. It can only save in 8 bit color (that creates banding, doesn't have smooth transition between shades of gray). 16 bit is the way to go with height/displacement (it has more color info). Maybe in the future that could be fixed.

    • @tomarty2103
      @tomarty2103 2 года назад +19

      @@dallasurban9676 Don't use photoshop you want "professional" 16 bit. Photoshop's 16 bit is a lie.
      8 bit = 2^8 = 256 color steps.
      16 bit = 2^16 = 65,536 color steps.
      Photoshop's 16 bit has 32,769 color steps.
      Using photoshop to edit a 16 bit image then resaving is LOSSY. For casual use this isn't noticable, but it certainly affects heightmaps and scientific applications. Unacceptable considering how much adobe makes off this product.

    One thing I want to suggest is put the actual topic either in the title or thumbnail too, probably preferably thumbnail.
    I understand the need of your title to be really eyecatching and.. let's just say "algorithm friendly".
    But putting the actual topic, like for example for this video, the name "materialize" in the thumbnail would help a lot to index your content, so people don't have to watch just a bit of the video to know what exactly the topic is.

    Dude, you're transforming an ugly flattened albedo to an ugly metallic weird cliff.

      The Albedo has feelings ya know?

      @@Smeaf Sorry, poor albedo, it's not even a true albedo, it have some shadow... Poor photo, i'm sorry if I may harm you and your family with my words.
      On the other hand, you, "metallic weird cliff", you are ugly, and I remain clear on that point, your roughness is too low, your metalness to high, the high-level pass isn't realistic.

    im def gonna be using this but Adobe actually has a program that can somewhat do the same for a lot of money, Substance 3D sampler

    I learned about PBR through Uncharted, more specifically a review of 2 where the reviewer was angry that they didn’t model everything in the game.

    Great video on how to use Materialise!
    How do you reckon this holds up against Substance Sampler?

    • @AyushBakshi
      @AyushBakshi 2 года назад +5

      I used both. Sampler is better. Got delighting, make it tile filter, blending other materials like moss, snow onto the material you created.

      Thanks!
      I haven’t used Sampler but it looks quite good!

    Hey! Could you please show in more detail how to add this to Blender?
    I can't find a principled texture setup option like you have.

      Nope! I moved on to TouchDesigner and it’s much easier to apply those there, and it’s much lighter on GPU/CPU

    i can do the same in substance designer or substance alchemist, designer gives a lot of control over the textures

      But substance is not free. Surely it's better, but also not cheap.
