- For generations, the caretakers of Kolakata's Jewish synagogues have been Muslims.
For a case study in communal harmony, we need look no further than Kolkata's Jewish Synagogues. At one point as strong as 6000, the Jewish community has dwindled to less than 20 members in the city of Kolkata. For generations, Muslim caretakers have maintained the three main Jewish synagogues in Kolkata. Anwar and Rabbul manage the Maghen David and Beth El Synagogues, a role that has been in their families for generations. I met them in person, when I went there and truly they are great Muslims, in fact we must serve them and provide for all their needs.This Family are of a long service at the Synagogue by tradition. There should be a TRUST FUND for these gentlemen are one among our children in the Jewry. They can do their solat inside the Synagogue facing the Kiblat, we face Jerusalem. Purely acceptable- Shulkan Arush !

These are the Ahle-Khitab, these are the houses of God, we worship the same God so we have to respect churches and synagogues according to Islamic teachings.

I have been living in U.A.E for about an year now. I have never experienced any sort of hatred. Last month I visited Gurudwara in Dubai.It has been visited by many Sheikhs of U.A.E.

As a Muslim, I have not at all surprised that Muslims are gatekeepers of the Jewish Synagogue in Kolkata. Since, most Qurʾānic references to non-Muslims refer to Jews and Christians, who are usually called “People of the Book” (ahl al-kitāb). The term “People of the Book” generally refer to Jews and Christians, the “Book” in question being the Torah received by the Jews and the Gospel received by the Christians. Islam establishes a relationship with the people of different faiths on the basis of tolerance, justice, benevolence, and mercy and how their places of worship are given full protection. Therefore, Muslims all over the world respect the people of the Book and their places of worship with due respect whether they reside in a Muslim society or not.
