It's because Jews in India never became rich enough to control or run a significant part of India's money flow - Hinduism historically and even today doesn't have an issue with wealth or being involved with money lending businesses. They never got too involved in local Indian politics either - individual Jews became important leaders and judges but they were never a significant vote bank that local politicians needed to pander to and the Jews never asked for special privileges either that would make them the target of scorn and derision. Plus, Jews were primarily traders and so were foreigners living in a land where culturally or religiously they had no connection with the local population. Quite frankly, one cannot compare the small Jewish communities of India with the massive Jewish communities that lived in the Middle East and Europe, where their communities had a much bigger impact on the local population.

Judaism considers the land of Israel as its god gifted land and thus when the jewish state was formed and Israel invited jews from all over the world, they left to live there. It has nothing to do with economic prospects, but rather religious attachment of judaism to the land of judea/israel.

The moment the lady said the India can proudly say India has never discriminated to Jews it was a goosebumps for me. Proud of you warrior clan #Jews . Even if they were massacred discriminated in many parts of globe they still abled to hold their cultural identity and made it possible to back to their homeland. I love their fighting spirit for their motherland.

I have got friends in Kolkata who are supposedly Jewish. never asked them about it though. I despise pointing someone out by their religion. I love the Jewish culture and their food.

Oh, my father was teasing me all my childhood and youth Jutta from Calcutta! And only when I turned 48 I was blessed to visit Calcutta! Can you imagine? It was as if I was coming home, by the blessed little psalm of my grandfather. I have learned in German school books, that it was the Jews being tanners. I was brought up as a protestant Christian. But which facts do I have to wonder about if, it is a fact that my family made the worldwide best leather for the basic of the shoe: the sole three layers, the frame and the cap for and back part! So lovely to understand that the Christian dominee protestant & catholic came to my grandfather's house as he was a hard practical worker and spending always money and facilities for the poor & needy ones having a blessed social impact in our community in Germany! Even my eldest aunty wanted to be buried in a Jewish coffin. I learned slowly about the history hidden in our family's destiny & history!! Thank you for this lovely historical composition!
