DCA- I"ve been watching you for years and always appreciated your presentations. However, just today, while watching a bunch of Blade Show videos it hit me what sets you head and shoulders above the rest of the guys - your professionalism, intelligence, good humor and gentle nature. Thank you.
You have no idea how badly I wanted to talk to Eric in person about the rex121 sage release. I'm so jealous of anyone that got to chat with him this weekend!
I have a ton of Spyderco knives that I’ve purchased and used over many years, going back to my days in the Marine Corps in the late 1990s. I bought my first Spyderco at the PX. It was a Endura in VG-10 with the old style plastic clip. I carried that thing in the field for years. Sadly, I was so disappointed in Spyderco, when I found out they are radically jacking their prices up AND simultaneously reducing their military discount. I’m just disgusted. This is a move that I think Sal would never have made.
Im still more upset at the cost of filling my grocery cart than the price of a knife. Everything is more expensive these days. Sad but true. Fortunately a new knife can wait, food can’t.
@@EDCandLace Like I said, I love my Spyderco knives. But, I don’t know if I would agree with you on that. At least not any more. Manufactures in Japan, Taiwan, China, and Italy are all producing incredible knives in premium materials with superior fit and finish. My K390 stretch and my SPY27 Para 3 LW are still probably among my most carried knives, but my 20cv Kizer October and Elmax Kizer Towser K are definitely giving them a run for their money. You also can’t beat a Cold Steel American Lawman for an all-around beater/user knife, and that is in s35vn for about $100 with probably the best heat treat in the game. If your a USA-made only guy, Kershaw is absolutely killing it. I still carry my 20cv Kershaw Dividend daily when I’m at work.
Just listening to Mr.Spyderco is exciting with all the updates on their knives. Yeah, they all may look similar but the designs is specific & functional. Para 3 is dad's grail. Cheers from Australia.
I would have picked up that cruwear temperance if it weren't FRN. I would have preferred that they upped the price a bit and went with micarta or g10. I dont mind frn for my spyderco folders but not on a fixed blade geared towards self defense. Even a durable rubberized demko material would have been more appropriate.
Like the DLC Cruwear yojimbo? Or the new purple PD1 DLC, lol I want a salt LC200N YoJumbo, with caribbean style LC200N liners, and a serrated combo spyder edge
Love that Techno3. Bought the original one when it came out, now years later I cant get Techno3 (with all of its 2.5" of blade) shipped to NYC. Love the steel on original, Marcin Słysz is on point with his work, Spyderco and Taichung machining, just great. #knifelaws 😢
I really felt it when Eric Glesser said that Buck has been doing the 110 for "60 fuckin' years". I laughed. you can tell that Eric and likely the rest of the industry respects the hell out of Buck for continuously producing that knife for as long as they have.
Damnit. I was already preparing myself for the Rex 121 Sage 5 and PD1 Endela. Now there is a Magnacut Salt Sage 5??? I may as well send my paychecks directly to spyderco. Damnit
Don't get me wrong, I love the steel refreshes and colors and such, the small things like bushings/bearing adjustments and perfecting their good line up...but I want new stuff from spyderco, seems like they're afraid of losing. Just innovate, yall got the room for error guys.
I certainly do not want or expect a Civvi-type release schedule, but if you're NOT the type of collector who wants multiple examples of the same design, Spyderco doesn't give much to you these days
I love Spyderco knives, but they have become boring I'm sorry to say. Not enough innovation, like you said. And just throwing a new steel into an existing version, such as the recent obsession with m4....meh. you guys don't seem to realize that not everyone lives in a desert climate. Also, there really isn't enough magna cut steel. Everything else is just a compromise.
Spy27 has proven impressively corrosion resistant for me too. MagnaCut is tough competition, but I think it’s these two steels that are the most balanced out there.
I would love that tenacious if it was in better steel. For the price it's hard to spend for 8cr. Ip be happy if it was vg10 or there bd1n but 8cr is just not good enough for the price
Agreed, 8cr and titanium just doesn’t make sense. Totally opposite of most of their line where the steel is premium and the handle is made of less expensive material. I’d rather see a cruwear and frn tenacious.
I bought a Tenacious LW in s35vn on sale for 80 bucks last year ...I slapped some Flytanium ti scales on it that I got for 40.00. It's a banger of a knife for the combined prices. But I agree with your assessment of this new Tenacious offering. Cheers.
I tend to agree with that statement on the surface, however, the surface doesn't always show what the "whole" of the knife represents. I've had 2 Tenacious' over the last 4-5 years, both 8Cr13, and bought specifically for chopping up cardboard which ends up being about 150 feet per week. Their 8Cr13 is just a league ahead of all other 8Cr13 in the industry and as crazy as it is to say, the heat treatment they do on those 8Cr13 budget models literally out performs about 80% of my Chinese OEM M390 and actually perform similar/on par with Benchmades S30V. As much as Benchmade has kind of lost touch with a majority of the community, their S30V has always performed stellar for the most part, so comparing the 8Cr13 to this was absolutely intended as a compliment. But as much as I respect what they have been able to do with a steel that has such a negative stigma overall, I do wish they would just upgrade it to something more desirable; it's a fantastic model and it deserves a new makeover.
Great review; can you tell me when the Sage Salt will be available for pre-order ? Also Eric mention anything about a Salt version of Chaparral? Because that would be 🔥
We need to see the REX121 in other knives, please! I would totally jump all over a Para3 linered version. I need a fancy new blade to dress up with the 2024 Blade Show scales I just bought from LymchNW!
